The Space

This is the perfect solution for people looking for a great location and saving you money to spend on having fun and enjoying San Francisco rather than a pricey hotel. The apartment is private with its own entrance, is very quiet, and the yard is sunny -- rare in SF!

Guest Access

There is a private entrance to this unit accessible at all hours. You can enjoy a view of the garden. High speed Wi-Fi is included for free. There is parking available for $10 a day.

Interaction with Guests

I manage this property for Ben, and I live in the main part of the house, but rarely see guests. I want to communicate with you online to set things up and then you'll be able to access the key through a coded lockbox; I change the code after each stay.

The Neighborhood

You're situated in one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco for nightlife and access to the city. There's a fabulous park up the hill roughly a 10-minute walk from the front door. From there you get views of the Golden gate Bridge as well as the Bay Bridge and the entire Silicon Valley Peninsula -- wave to (website hidden), Netflix, and Intel! It's really wonderful at first light or at sunset. To get there simply keep walking uphill and look for staircases in between some of the houses that lead up to the next block. It's also a great area to walk dogs so you'll see lots of neighbors out.

Mission Street is the main street below the house where you'll find dozens of restaurants including tacos, burritos, Thai food, Chinese and some great higher-end places.

Getting around

Transit:
There are a number of buses that pick up at the corner of Mission and Fair immediately below the house. The 14 and 49 Muni Bus head along mission all the way downtown. If you walk 15 minutes up Mission Street, you reach the 24th St. BART station.

Car Rental:
There are a half dozen zip car locations within a half-mile of the house. If you have a membership, it's a great deal at $7-$15 an hour including gas and insurance. Look them up for short term car rentals.

Enterprise rent a car has a facility at 13th and Mission and if you call ahead they will come pick you up for your rental free of charge. Use this for rentals over 24 hours.

Other Things to Note

Our garden is significantly cut back because of California's drought. We're very water aware here, and maintaining a few flowers did not seem like a wise choice. You still have access to the space, including the table and chairs in the yard, but it is not as pretty as it once was! Sorry about this!

  • We had an excellent stay here. It was small, but perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. The location was the best part, there were lots of great restaurants and bars of all price ranges. Beautiful parks too. Patrick was a great host, the check-in was very smooth and we had everything we needed. The hosts also left really useful directions and suggestions for things to do in the neighbourhood.

  • The studio is small, but very workable. I'm 6'2" and uncomfortable in small spaces, but this place was no problem. Very good use of space. Clean and comfortable. Patrick was easy to communicate with. The neighborhood has fun stuff just a block away, but the apartment is in the back and is very quiet. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Host was nice, helped when I needed help and very nice.

  • This studio was the perfect place to stay. Although the bed was a little snug for my boyfriend and I (it has a twin, but also comes with a super simple air mattress if needed) we made it work and didn't even need to use the air mattress. The bathroom and shower were great.

We couldn't have asked for a place in a better location. Very central to all of the places we wanted to visit. Buses and the bart were just a couple of minutes walk as well as tons of shopping, cafes, and restaurants. I never once felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood at anytime of day.

Patrick was a fantastic host. Very quick and responsive. After arriving there was a problem with the lock box, we had to call Patrick because we were unable to get into the apartment. He was there in less than 15 minutes to help us in! I would definitely stay at this location again and would recommend it to anyone looking for something simple and centrally located.

  • Nice place. Did not get to enjoy it, had to travel right away.

  • This place was great / exactly as the description states. It is in a super convenient neighborhood, close to the 24th st. BART, and good restaurants / bars nearby.

It is not spacious, but as a solo traveler looking for a place to crash, it was perfect. Plus, having its own bathroom and shower were great.

  • The place was in a great location, easy to get to everything. It was perfect for a single person to get away and not pay an arm and a leg for privacy. It was quite and relaxing. It reminded me of being in a college dorm minus any hassle. I would recommend it to anyone looking for privacy and quiet who's trying to save some money on lodging.

  • This place was just what I needed for the week. Clean and quiet, with good access to transit.

  • Ben made sure that I had a great experience renting from him! All matters of logistics were handled extremely well, with the keys being left in a lockbox at the front door. The first day that I arrived, Ben showed up with fresh towels and a bathroom mat. Later, Ben had to leave on business but asked his downstairs neighbor to handle everything, and I had no problems. I also had a good experience renting a parking spot from Ben right outside the apartment.

The room itself is small but very cozy -- exactly what I expected. If you are going to be out and about in the City instead of being in all the time, you're not going to have any problems. Indeed, the area has become significantly nicer over the past 2-3 years, becoming an extension of the 16th and Valencia area that has been the hipster capital of the world for a long time now. All of that is within easy walking distance.

I'd recommend renting from Ben if you're 1 person looking for a cozy and secure home base to explore SF from. I would not recommend the room if you're more than one person or looking for the Ritz Carlton. But that should be pretty clear from the ad anyway.

  • Ben was informative, accommodating, expedient and very understanding and flexible. He had an answer to my every question and a direction of resolve to match. My stay and lodging was never a stressor. The place was cozy and clean. That space heater is no joke lol. Loved.. LOVED my stay. Would stay again.
