About This Listing
A friendly cozy little apartment in the heart of Berlin. Well suited for 1 or 2 people who want to cook for themselves.
****NOTE: Due to construction work, the Balcony is currently closed off and cannot be used! ****
This is a very sweet studio apartment in Friedrichshain. On the first floor above the street, hardwood floors (i refinished them 3 years ago when I moved in), balcony, cute, small but fully-equipped kitchen.
***BALCONY CURRENTLY BLOCKED OFF DUE TO CONSTRUCTION WORK. THIS MEANS THERE IS NO SMOKING AREA IN THE APARTMENT! ****
Your stay includes linens (towels and bedding) and use of a TV/DVD player, speaker set that you can plug a laptop or mp3 player into for great quality-sound, plants, and an amazing neighborhood.
I'd love to give the apartment to people who not only need an affordable place to stay in Berlin, but will really enjoy the neighborhood and this beautiful place to live. :) Close to U-bahn station samariter strasse, boxhagener platz and lots of bars, restaurants, and funky goodness (check out the neighborhood Guidebook!)
I have dust and mold allergies: No carpets and minimal curtains make for an allergy-friendly experience. However, it's an old building and not dust-free! There is no smoking inside, but the balcony is an easy solution for that. [NOTE: BALCONY CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE DUE TO CONSTRUCTION WORK]
tv with satellite +dvd
newly renovated kitchen/bathroom with shower and washing machine
queen-sized firm futon on a custom-made built-in sleeping platform, separated from room by floaty white curtains
beautiful wood floors.
parking in the neighborhood is NOT free, and it's hard to find a spot! sorry! that's life in the big city i guess...
no smoking except on the balcony!
bathroom with shower
drying rack for clothes
speakers that can be hooked up to a computer or mp3 player
Interaction with Guests
available for questions but i don't live there while you're there.
it's a great combination of cafes, bars, parks and peace and quiet!
Close to U5 Station Samariter Str. and S42 Station Frankfurterallee.
Other Things to Note
Please don't come expecting "the hotel look"- this apartment is lived in, cozy, clean and comfortable. Not everything is spotless or brand-new- for example, it could use a fresh coat of paint. If that sounds fine for you, be welcome! If you are looking for a commercially-run holiday apartment, please look elsewhere!
Check-in (Key exchange) between 8 am and 10 pm.
NO SMOKING except on balcony.
if you break anything by accident, tell me and we'll find a solution.
you can read my books, watch dvds etc as long as you take care of everything.
please water the plants at least once a week. for shorter stays (less than a week) no need to water.
please leave the apartment as you found it.
Rachel is the ideal host, giving clear directions and responding promptly. She went out of her way to make sure everything was in order. She even emailed me to let me know she when she would be traveling. The studio has all of the essentials, and is right near a main street with lots of places to shop. Also just a quick 10 minute train ride from Alexanderplatz. The negative I'd say is the bed is a little uncomfortable but for the price you cannot beat this listing. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a great time at Rachel's place. The location is fantastic, very close to great restaurants, organic grocery stores and bars. A great spot for exploring Berlin!
Not only the best airbnb apartment I've stayed in, but among the best apartments I've lived in. The area is vibrant, although the apartment is on a cute and quiet street. Many grocery stores.
Rachel made sure the apartment was perfectly clean when I arrived. During the whole month I was here, there was never a single problem. Neighbors are quiet friendly.
Many times Rachel has answered to our messages too late (even before our departure) and she prevented us from making good programs. In the house there was a lot of dust everywhere, the kitchen and the fridge were very dirty. The mattress was full of hair and the vacuum cleaner was completely clogged. We spent a whole afternoon to clean the apartment.
My two friends and i stayed in Rachel's studio for a week, and had an amazing time. Firstly, the location, just 1 min away from the M13 (Tram) and 5 min away from Frankfurt Alle with the U an S trains.. close to everything yet no a touristy spot, but quiet, full of small cafes, shops and the Flea Market Boxhagener Platz on Saturdays.
2 of us slept on the big, comfi bed and the third was on the mattress. there is a small, fully equipted kitchen which you can use to make simple meals (we had a lovely breakfast) and a great wi-fi conenction.
along side the wondeful things about this apartment, there 2 small things worth mentioning: there was not a way to properly to drain the water from the shower and the we were expecting, based on the picture from the website, a sklightly bigger porch.
all in all it was an ideal spot for traveleres like ourselves, and a wonderfull place to return to after a full day and night of activities.
Rachel was always available when needed, even though we didn't meet her it felt as though she was right there with us at any request or need.
The apartment was great and the location is just excellent - you are within walking distance of pretty much anything you could need, including a mini supermarket, cafes, bars, dinner spots, and nightclubs. Rachel was very helpful and readily available to answer queries. Highly recommended.

About the Host, Rachel
I'm a very free spirit with an organized life. Sometimes it's a blissful combination, sometimes it's more like a box of angry cats. I teach kids and adults yoga and dance, and I'm a freelancer, so I am very much able to structure my time as I wish, which makes me very happy. I like to take LONG trips, especially when I'm going far away (next stop: bali!) to really soak in the new place I'm going to. I also love the enforced quiet and reflection that comes with traveling alone, the test of any friendship or relationship that comes with traveling together.
I've been subletting my place ever since I moved in in 2008, and I've met some pretty amazing people. I think my apartment absorbs some of the energy of everyone who visits, and I love to host interesting people. I think it makes my home more alive.
yummy! cozy, living-room like ambience with bookshelves and sometimes a dog. i loved the beef nachos. my friend's hamburger also looked great.
this is the cheap alternative for groceries! they also have sundry other fun little items, like solar garden lamps and long underwear.
this is where i buy my groceries- high-quality, organic food and great bakery.
grungy, original, crowded, energetic, laid-back typical berlin bar. the name means "Sweet was yesterday"
Love this park. Saturday, huge food market, with the best sausages in town: Thuringer Wurst. Sundays, flea market. All the time: punks, dogs and kids, Berlin's finest people-watching.
i love this place for breakfast or lunch. amazing deli toppings to fresh bread, choose your own combination of fancy meats and cheeses or let them recommend. coffee also good.
What it sounds like- a groovy, laid back place to drink wine (or beer).
The former headquarters of the East-German secret police, the Stasi, now a very strange and cool museum. Signs are only in German. Love the collection of hidden cameras. Birdhouse, anyone?
