About This Listing
Old characteristic house in the cente of Leiden. Very close to Schiphol, Amsterdam and the beach. One double bed but possibilities to lay a mattress or a bed for a child. Also one cat living in the house you don't need to feed him, a friend does.
It is an old house. Downstairs a long room, separated in two parts: dining room and living room. There is also a small kitchen and a garden. In the garden there is always both sun and shade.
Upstairs there a two bedrooms. One room has a double bed. We use the other room for our clothes and to store stuff. It is possible to lay there a mattress. We do have a mattress and we also have a bed for a child. It is a very pleasant house to live in!
The neighbourhood is pleasant: friendly and quiet. It is close to the centre (7 minutes walk) and close to a big and cheap supermarket. There is also a good and small (and more expensive) greengrocer in the street and a playground. The house is close to the Central trainstation and busstation (5 minutes walk).
The city of Leiden is an old city. There are some interesting museums to visit, nice terrace boats, shops, restaurants, bars, cinema's and lot of other things to do in summer or during the year. It is also nearby Schiphol airport (15 minutes by train), Amsterdam (30 minutes by train), The Hague (15 minutes by train), Rotterdam (30 minutes by train), Utrecht (45 minutes by train). The Keukenhof in Lisse (45 minutes), beaches (30 minutes by bike).
Also Antwerp and Brussels (Belgium) is not far away (2 or 3 hours by car).
Other Things to Note
We do have two cats living with us. You don't need to feed them, a good friend of mine, living in the same street as we do, will feed them.
You are welcome in our house in Leiden. House rules: just use your common sense and enjoy it as if it were yours. Respect the neighbours silence in the night. Lock the apartment door everytime you leave. Smoke is not allowed inside the house. You can smoke in the garden.
Stayed with my husband, baby and mother in law. It was a great little house in a quiet area with plenty of room (by Dutch standards) and Esther was very friendly. She even left a little handy guest basket with hairdryer, spare toothbrushes, etc. We were able to cook fine in the kitchen (no toaster for breakfast but the oven has a grill/crisper) and use the washing machine. There was a proper cot, baby bath and baby change mat. 5-10 minute walk to train station in one direction and city centre in the other. No TV connection (though there is a TV set you can watch DVDS on) but wifi worked perfectly. I'd definitely stay here again.
Esther is a great host, we really enjoyed our time in Leiden. The location of the house is amazing, really close to the city center and the station. Only issue for us was that the house was really cold (no heating). Other than that, it is a really nice place to stay for a warm weekend.
Hi Muriel and David, great to hear that you had a good time in our house and Leiden. And I am really sorry to hear that it was cold in the house and you didn't find the thermostat. But I learned from this, and in the future, I will tell my guest where it is. So thanks you for the advice! And be welcome a next time!
We had a great stay at Esther's house! It's a very comfortable place, near the center and with everything you may need. The house have a charming terrace where you can have your breakfast if it is a beautiful day. She also let us use her parking space, which was great! Thank you so much for everything, Esther!
It was quite old style but nice home. Bath room was newly renovated. Great location. Very well cleaned. Private parking lot. Good host.
Esther and Pieter welcomed us very friendly, showed us the whole house and gave all the necessary information (e.g. recommendations for restaurants, groceries etc.). Esther also left her mobile phone in case we need additional info.
The house is on a great location, near the central train station and the city center in a quiet street. It was clean and lovely.
The cat, Joey, was nice and friendly. We didn't need to feed him, we only gave him cat cookies which Ester prepared forehand. Joey is losing a lot of hair, but this didn't bother us since we closed the doors to the bedroom.
All in all, we enjoyed our time in Leiden and in Esther’s house. We had a great time there :)
Thank you Kristina. I am glad to hear that you had a good time in Leiden and that you enjoyed our house! And indeed, spring arrived and Joey instantly is in de moult and start losing his hear. I am glad to hear that you closed the doors so it didn't bother you.
If you are in Holland, please be welcome to stay!
About the Host, Esther En Pieter
We are Esther and Pieter, a couple without children. Esther (44) works as a communication advisor at Leiden University. Pieter (39) is alderman in Den Helder. At this moment during the weeks Esther lives in Leiden and Pieter in Den Helder. In the weekends we stay together, alternately in Leiden or in Den Helder, so we are quite flexible if you would like to stay in our house.
The house already comes with a cat. Joey is 10 year old and is very sweet. His hobbies are mostly sleeping and eating so all you have to do is feed him for us. Petting is optional, but you're probably not going to resist.
