The Neighborhood

DuPont Circle - one of the most interesting and eclectic neighborhoods on the Eastern-seaboard!

From Washingtonian Magazine:

"DuPont Circle sits in the heart of DC, where Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut avenues come together in Northwest DC. The neighborhood surrounding the circle has many charms—the beautiful rowhouses on P and Q streets to the east, the lively bars on Connecticut Avenue to the south, and the impressive embassies to the north along Massachusetts Avenue. Inside the famed circle itself, old men who have occupied the same chess tables for decades join musicians, tourists, and neighborhood residents walking their dogs, eating picnic lunches, or relaxing under the leafy trees."

  • Nice apartment, nice neighborhood, Charlotte solved all doubts very quickly by email. Wouldn't mind to stay again if I come back to Washington.

  • The apartment was extremely comfortable in a beautiful setting! We had a wonderful week here. The apartment was well equipped, warm, exceptionally clean and in an ideal location. Very helpful advice on where to go, shop and how to travel around. All in all, a perfect stay

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Charlotte's condo. The location is ideal. It's only a few short blocks to the metro, and yet a short walk to the heart of Georgetown (which is not served by the metro system). It's located in a neighborhood of embassies and brownstone mansions. The condo is immaculately clean and has lots of charm - marble bathroom, crown moldings, distressed wood floors, etc. One warning though: it is very small - it is totally adequate for 1-2 people as a hotel substitute, though. We did have a couple of minor problems - but that is not unusual in a historic building. One morning we woke up to no hot water - but Charlotte's team was immediately on it and when we returned that evening it was taken care of (things like this can happen anywhere - the important thing is that they are dealt with in a timely manner - and Charlotte's team excelled at this). We do have one minor complaint, though, which is why not a 5 star rating: when we arrived the condo was too warm and the radiator heat system was hot. There were no instructions on how to operate the radiator heat system, but I assumed you simply turned the valve off. We did so. The next morning we woke up to a stone cold radiator so turned the valve open. Later that day when we returned it was still stone cold. We emailed about this and were told that the thermostat for the radiator is controlled in the downstairs unit and that unit renter was contacted about turning up their heat. The next day it was still stone cold. The place wasn't freezing by any means - around 66-69 degrees but cooler than my wife likes things. We then found space heaters in the closet. The place is small enough that the space heaters were perfect for giving us more control over the temperature in the unit. The radiators never did get warm again - and since the space heaters did the trick we didn't worry about it further. However, it would have been nice to have instructions on how to use the radiators, the challenge that the downstairs thermostat is out of our control, and that space heaters in the closet provide a way to have more control over the temperature - this would have prevented us from having to figure this all out. Beyond this minor complaint, though, this condo met our needs quite well and it would be hard to find a better location or nicer/cleaner unit for the same price point. Thanks for the wonderful stay, Charlotte.

  • Charlotte and Kevin were easy to deal with and very quick to respond. DuPont Circle is a fantastic location and this apartment was perfectly located close to metro and restaurants but in a quiet street. My week stay here was made even better by the laundry facilities, wi-fi and Halloween pumpkins lining the street!

  • A comfortable place in a perfect location and a beautiful historic neighborhood. The apartment was clean and cozy. Will stay here again in the future.

  • What a dream - a dream location, a dream apartment and a dream host! Perfectly located near the train line, restaurants, bars and grocery stores. The check in process was smooth due to great instructions and communication from Charlotte and Kevin. It was great to have a kitchenette and access to a laundry and free WIFI. The apartment was very comfortable, extremely clean and super quiet. We absolutely recommend staying at the DuPont Circle Dream.

  • This unit is beautiful- small, but has everything thing you need. The location is perfect and only a couple blocks from Dupont Circle, the Metro, grocery stores and great restaurants.

The down sides are 1) A/C and 2) the bed. The A/C window unit is right next to the bed. It was 90 degrees and 80% humidity when we stayed here, so the A/C unit was on all the time. I would wake up in the middle of the night with a really sore throat because of the proximity to the A/C unit. It was difficult to get the temperature right. It was either stifling hot or freezing cold in the bedroom. The mattress was very uncomfortable, the bed moved all around when you sat down on it (I think it's on wheels) and the headboard isn't attached (it fell on me in the middle of the night).

I would definitely stay here again if 1) the A/C unit were moved to the living room and 2) a new mattress and bed were purchased.

  • Charlotte & Kevin were easy to communicate with. You couldn't ask for a safer and more convenient location from which to explore the city. Everything was as-advertised, they provided helpful information on how to get there and where to find grocery stores (etc.) - would highly recommend to others!

  • Great location, nice little apartment. Very responsive to my questions.

    August 2012
  • It was fantastic to have this "home" for a week while we were in the capital on vacation. Easy walk to restaurants, Trader Joe's (!) and the red line metro at DuPont Circle. We easily picked up a cab on 22nd when we needed one.

The condo was clean and very easy to get to. It is located on quiet street and since it is in the middle of the embassy district, it's probably in one of the safest neighborhoods in DC!

We're used to a queen sized bed, so the double was a bit smaller than we were used to.

Having the washer/dryer right outside the door was handy and we did do a load of our clothes. It's always nice to be able to pack light and wash out the miles of walking we did every day through museums and monuments.

We really enjoyed this condo much better than a hotel since there weren't people up and down the hall at all hours and knowing that no one would be coming into our room every day when we weren't there.
