Our summer house is a family friendly four-bedroom villa. Set in a pine forest overlooking Chania, it has expansive verandas and terraces from which to savor the panoramic view of Chania. The house also accommodates guests during winter months.
Our house is a family friendly four-bedroom home with two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, dining and living rooms with working fireplace and central heating. There are expansive verandas and terraces from which to savor the panoramic view of Chania from one of the most sought-after suburbs of the town. Set in a pine forest, the enclosed private property features an olive grove, vegetable and flower gardens, a lawn and a lot of outdoor space to enjoy.
The house has two floors with a staircase connecting the upper with the lower floor. On each floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. In the upper floor's bedroom, there is a king size bed and in the other bedroom the bunk-beds, and a cradle upon request. There are bathroom facilities on the same floor. On the lower floor in one bedroom there is a twin bed, and in the other a double sofa bed. There is a shower facility and washing machine on the same floor.
The house can sleep 5-6 adults and children comfortably.
During the summer months there are cicadas singing which, for some people, can be noisy although it is part of the Greek summer experience. Although, these are nature's noise, earplugs can be provided upon request. Also, this is an animal friendly neighborhood which means that cats can be viewed in the property, as well as one can hear the neighbors' dog barking. We also have a very nice, vaccinated and friendly 3-years old cat called "Bubble" fouska, which enormously love our space and take care of all the pest as well, we are in the outskirts of the town... However, in case a guest has allergies or wouldn't be bother with feeding the cat, I could provide alternative accommodation for the cat very easily! Please inform me upon a reservation is confirmed.
The property is set 3.5 km from the city centre, on the base of the Akrotiri peninsula, perfect for excursions, while being very close to town. The airport is only 10 minutes drive away from the house. Some of the best beaches of Chania town are all within 10 minutes drive from our house, as are the beautiful historic monasteries of Agia Triada and Gouverneto and many other places of natural beauty, to explore.
For those using public transportation, the bus stop is very close to the property, as is the local taxi stand.
The neighborhood features a 24/7 mini market, a bakery, and a fruit and vegetable store all within walking distance.
I would recommend to rent a car for easier access to the house, all tourist attractions and excursions around the island.
As a cosmopolitan family with strong roots in Chania, we would love the opportunity to offer you our insider knowledge of our city and its environs.
Free wi-fi connection, washing machine, iron board and iron and a free parking lot on the facility. Bathroom amenities are provided.
Interaction with Guests
I am trying to be as discrete as possible. I enjoy having a cup of coffee with my guests to welcome them home, to show them around the house, to give tips and recommend them any coffee shop, restaurants, tours around the area and Crete. I am at reach through my mobile for back up services while here in Chania.
I am an archaeologist as well, so, I have great
knowledge about Crete's ancient past. Feel free to ask me any questions about exhibitions, museums and cultural services in Crete.
I like my neighborhood. It is safe and close to the forest, so it is always cool even during the hot greek summer, with nice and expansive properties in one of the sought-after suburb of the town with nice view, but at the same time, it is close to town and enjoy the ease of the urban life, like the close vicinity to the super markets, bakery shop, local bus routes.
The neighborhood is in walking distance from the Venizelos' Graves, one of the tourist attraction of the area. There are coffee shops in the area that also provide breakfast, cakes, coffees and drinks from mornings until the evening. Some highly recommended coffee places are next and near to the Venizelos Graves.
There are public transportation and a taxi lot close to the house. I would recommend a car for those staying in the property, not only for an easy access to the house, but because it is a better way to explore Crete.
I would like my guests to treat the house as if it was their home and try to fill the house with positive energy.
No smoking allowed indoors, outdoor smoking allowed only in designated areas.
Dustbins should be emptied daily.
Please turn off the lights in the mornings, due to energy waste.
I do allow pets but not indoors, unless they are well trained. I have a cat as a pet which sleep out during the nights. But if a guest is allergic to cats I can keep the cat at my place.
Change of sheets and house cleaning can be provided upon request.
Outdoor candlesticks allowed only in wind proof vessels.
There is a jasmine flower on the terrace which drops its flower daily during summer and the terrace is good to be kept clear from the flowers.
The entrance gate should remain closed at all times.
We were first time AirBnber when we found Elia's Eclectic house listing, but we couldn't have been more happy with both the house and the host.
Elia's eclectic house is as beautiful as the pictures lead you to think and filled with wonderful charm. The house and the surrounding gardens are beautiful and a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of Chania in the evenings after a long day of exploring Western Crete. The view in the morning was a beautiful thing to wake up to and the road noise was minimal.
The house is not modern, but that was partly why we loved it so. It had all the comforts (including a washing machine) that we required for our extended visit (we rented for approximately 6 weeks) and the amount of privacy and space provided was refreshing.
The nearby amenities (bakery, mini-market, souvlaki place) are quite good and we utilized them frequently.
We had our own car and found it easy to drop into Chania for the day or get onto the National highway for exploration further afield as the house has easy access to a major road.
As for the Elia, she was responsive but also unintrusive and went out of her way to accommodate some of our numerous requests. These included a baby bath tub for our 4 month old (she found one), a drying rack for our clothes (provided to us before we even asked), and even fresh coffee and cookies for us upon arrival.
Overall, we loved the house, Elia's responsiveness to our requests, and area where the house is located.
We would highly recommend that if you want a wonderful place in Chania with the space to spread out, the charm of an older style Greek house, but with enough amenities to make you comfortable that you give Elia and her eclectic house a try.
Thank you Theo for be my guest and happy that you enjoyed the house and the hammock so much. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to let me know of the minor inconvenience you encountered because this is the way to improve guest's experiences in the future.
For us this was a perfect stay: Great views, lots of terraces for sun or shade, personal decor and is a short distance from the old center (by car).
We have had rarely seen such a warm welcome and guidance when renting a house.
Pity we had booked only for one week.

Elia's house is beautiful and spacious. We never wanted for room or privacy. There were some problems with the internet, but Elia was very gracious and did all she could to help us in this regard. She was quick to show up and take care of any concern we had. She was gracious welcoming. The house has a spectacular view of the Venetian harbor. Without a car its a bit of a trek to get into town, but the bus runs every half hour (or so).
We had a wonderful stay at Eclectic Country House in Chania. The house was spacious and had all we needed plus more. The views from the verandah were amazing and it was easy to wind down and relax in the quiet neighborhood. The bus stop to town was close and the shops were just a stones throw away. Elia was a wonderful hostess. She was friendly and very easy to get along with. She certainly made us feel at home. Thank you Elia
Gracious, charming and warm are the first words to spring to mind in thinking of Elia and her lovely mum. We arrived at their home in Crete and were delighted by both their reception and the lovely, tasteful environment in which we found ourselves. Elia's house is a place where after your travels you can kick back and relax with all the comforts of a real home and a beautiful view of Chania Harbour. There were many times we looked around the garden and discovered yet another little place to sit and enjoy the light filtering through the olive trees.
Not only did Elia provide great breakfast provisions for us, a bubbly on arrival and other treats, but also on learning we were Aussies, she gave us a jar of Vegemite to make us feel at home.
Altogether this was a great experience that we would recommend to anyone - we wish Elia the best of luck and hope our paths cross in the future.
Hi my name is Elia, I am a mother of three. I always enjoy meeting with and talking to other people and I really look forward to the opportunity to host people from around the world. Now a second home, this is the house in which I spent my summer vacations growing up. I really would love to offer the opportunity to others to share the relaxed and leisurely outdoor living to be experienced in my home here in Chania.
