I advise on the places to go, things to see and do and what to ignore in Dublin.

The Neighborhood

Clontarf is a residential part of Dublin 3, and not a far flung suburb outside Dublin. It is a premier residential address, as it has been for 150 years.

The house is on a quiet road but is walking distance from great restaurants, bars, shops, supermarket and services.
There are plenty of Chinese, Indian, French an Irish food restaurants and take aways so you are very well serviced if you do not feel like cooking yourself.

You can enjoy pubs of Clontarf, like Harry Byrne's for example, so much so,that you might never go to the city centre. The trouble with Harry..... is you will never leave....... a place of character and history and food for the soul.
The viking theatre over a pub called The Sheds, fantastic place for budget drama.
A huge beach of white sand 3km away.

There are many parks like St Anne's park, Fairview Park

Getting around

The House is located 5km from city Centre; 15 min by bicycle; 15min by bus, 10 min in car, €12 in a taxi.
You also have a direct suburban train (DART) station 200m away to city centre, but also all the way NORTH to Howth and all the way SOUTH to Greystones; right on the door step.
Howth is a beautiful fishing village worth a visit and a lunch.
The location is brilliant and can not be beaten to access all places without a car..
The house is a €17 taxi from airport, €12 from city centre.
Connolly mainline train station provides train to Belfast is closer than the city centre.

NO CAR REQUIRED WHEN YOU STAY HERE, but if you have a car, parking free in private driveway, off street.
The promenade is a 1000m away and a beautiful walk, you can enjoy the area so much you will have no reason to go to centre, but 20mins on any bus and your there.

  • Micheál was a wonderful host, always willing to let you spend time alone or share a glass of wine in his cozy house. Truly 15 minutes to city centre on a bus, and walking distance to a nice supermarket and wonderful pub the house was well situated for our stay in Dublin. A cab ride back from city centre wasn't too expensive either - only 13 euro or so if I remember correctly. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and the bed cozy. The room is not huge, but there was an empty dresser and a chair so just enough room for two people with luggage to stay. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay when visiting Dublin or simply traveling through while working.
