Full-size bed, reclaimed oak flooring piece, stereo with aux jack, lots of electrical outlets
It's a renovated basement space with private entrance and within a block of light-rail and restaurant core. We've retained some old soul of the 1923 home and accented with creative pieces. You'll find it practical AND funky, with lots of light and space.
Included are a bedroom, Full-size bed, private custom-built bathroom, living room, fridge/micro/coffee/dinnerware and full laundry. The space also includes use of a patio space (though we have a shared yard with our neighbors).
You'll have keyless entry through a back-lit digital locking system, so no one will have to worry about key exchange and access issues.
Interaction with Guests
We are totally flexible and just want you to have a good time! The space allows you to be totally independent if that's your style (private entrace with keyless entry, minimal shared amenities, etc.), but we'd love to meet you and give some not-so-subtle recommendations for stuff to do and areas to see. IT'S UP TO YOU!
We feel lucky to live in a city like this and in a corner of it that strikes the right balance between funky neighborhood and proximity to the city center.
The Overlook is named for the nearby bluffs that look down onto the city center and the Willamette River, offering great sunsets and activity areas (lots of dogs, running and biking). There's a strong core of restaurants, bars, grocery stores and coffee.
From the Airport: A cab will take approximately 20 minutes and cost about $40. The MAX train will cost 2.50/person and take about an hour. You take the MAX Red Line toward City Center to the Rose Quarter Transit Center, switch to the Yellow Line toward the Expo Center and get off at the North Killingsworth Station.
Public Transportation: Our home is located in North Portland, one block southeast from the MAX Yellow Line train (North Killingsworth Station) and the #72 Bus line.
Bicycle: North Williams/Vancouver Avenues is the main biking artery through this part of town. This couplet runs North/South and crosses both North Alberta and North Killingsworth streets that lead to our home. We are located approx. 1 mile West of this road.
Driving: Our home is only a few blocks from Interstate-5 - Alberta Street/Swan Island exit if you/re heading South, or the Killingsworth exit heading North.
The basement looked just as in the pictures (but was smaller than I anticipated- not that this was a problem, it's super cute). Lovely decor and homely feel. Fresh coffee and milk provided which was a lovely touch. If you plan to sleep during the day please be aware that you can hear a lot of the noise from upstairs - but ear plugs are provided.
We loved staying at Benjamin and Kristi's! We didn't meet the hosts as we were off exploring Portland most of the time, but we knew if we needed anything they were just a call or a door knock away. They were kind enough to suggest some places in the neighbourhood we might want to check out as well. The neighbour is nice and quiet, with cute touches likes a free library box! The space is as cute as it was in the pictures- comfy and cozy!
Ben and Kristi were great hosts! They sent an email before we arrived explaining how to get into our airbnb and how to contact them if we needed any help. When we arrived, Ben was outside of the house and was very welcoming. He answered our questions about the neighborhood, transportation, and good places to eat and visit in the area. I would recommend this rental to anyone that is looking for a well maintained, private and funky place to stay in a great part of Rip City!
This is a great little basement apartment. I found myself taking pictures of all of the ingenious little details that made it stand out. I did not get a chance to meet the hosts but they gave me all of the information I needed to feel comfortable. There are lots of great guides about Portland that will help visitors (I am from Portland) find all of the latest restaurants, pubs and music happenings. I love that there is a park right next door and the light rail is right down the street - super convenient for getting downtown. Overall the neighborhood is super cute, but I did have someone break into my car and steal a bunch of unimportant stuff so make sure, if you are driving, you don't leave valuables in your car. This is pretty universal throughout Portland so should not reflect poorly at all on the neighborhood. Overall, Ben and Kristi provide an authentic Portland experience in a close-in neighborhood with lots of amenities close by. I highly recommend booking with them as it is also a tremendous value for the money.
From the coffee, comfortable bed in a dark room, fridge, and easy access to public transport, our visit to Portland would not be the same without this perfect spot to call home.
We will definitely be back. Thank you Ben and Kristi!
Clean, quiet and well put together. Great communication from experienced hosts! Seamless experience.
Benjamin and Kristi's place was fantastic! It was the perfect amount of space for 2 people and so well decorated. The space was very private which I appreciate in an airbnb. I met Kristi in the morning who was so friendly and welcoming. Also, their cat is adorable.
Ben reads lots of magazines, drinks coffee every day, sometimes rides an old moped, wears his hair messy before work then uses some sort of a clay to tame it and get professional, acts like his front porch is a stoop in New Orleans, and gets to work with teenagers in the margins.
Kristi laughs a lot, styles peoples' hairs, loves throwback onion dip, is still looking for the perfect pair of overalls, used to be your flight attendant, has a dad who really lost his thumb in a bull-roping accident and won't let you sip from a beverage without an authentic-eye-contact "cheers".
It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance!
