It's a renovated basement space with private entrance and within a block of light-rail and restaurant core. We've retained some old soul of the 1923 home and accented with creative pieces. You'll find it practical AND funky, with lots of light and space.
Included are a bedroom, Full-size bed, private custom-built bathroom, living room, fridge/micro/coffee/dinnerware and full laundry. The space also includes use of a patio space (though we have a shared yard with our neighbors).
You'll have keyless entry through a back-lit digital locking system, so no one will have to worry about key exchange and access issues.
We are totally flexible and just want you to have a good time! The space allows you to be totally independent if that's your style (private entrace with keyless entry, minimal shared amenities, etc.), but we'd love to meet you and give some not-so-subtle recommendations for stuff to do and areas to see. IT'S UP TO YOU!
We feel lucky to live in a city like this and in a corner of it that strikes the right balance between funky neighborhood and proximity to the city center.
The Overlook is named for the nearby bluffs that look down onto the city center and the Willamette River, offering great sunsets and activity areas (lots of dogs, running and biking). There's a strong core of restaurants, bars, grocery stores and coffee.
Public Transportation: Our home is located in North Portland, one block southeast from the MAX Yellow Line train (North Killingsworth Station) and the #72 Bus line.
Bicycle: North Williams/Vancouver Avenues is the main biking artery through this part of town. This couplet runs North/South and crosses both North Alberta and North Killingsworth streets that lead to our home. We are located approx. 1 mile West of this road.
Driving: Our home is only a few blocks from Interstate-5 - Alberta Street/Swan Island exit if you/re heading South, or the Killingsworth exit heading North.
Easy access and a lot of space! The yellow line is a 2-3 minute walk...like 2 blocks... that takes you right into downtown Portland. When people ask where you're staying (North Portland) they'll think you're cool because you're in the lesser known hip part of the city...seriously - this happened to us! We loved the code access since it left out the awkwardness of retrieving/delivering keys and we could come and go as we pleased.
The space itself was great for our short 3 night stay, but would be even better for a lengthier one thanks to a mini fridge, microwave, dishes, etc. My favorite part about the place was the decor. Ben and Kristi truly transformed what could have been a creepy basement into a chic, modern, artistic retreat. I especially liked the big picture in the bathroom of the gangster that actually turned out to be a remnant from target practice. Also notable - great water pressure from a really cool looking (sunbursty?) shower head.
Ben & Kristi were very communicative, friendly, and generally nice people. Seriously consider booking with them on your next trip!
We had a great stay at this perfect-sized basement on our week vacation to Portland. The location is perfect for public transportation, whether you take the rail over the river into downtown or taking a bus visit some of the neighborhoods on the east side.
We had just enough space to be comfortable and the amenities provided are great (especially the washer/dryer). On top of that, Ben and Kristi were very helpful and responsive with any questions we had.
Great hosts, very accommodating, and a great space!
Our stay at Ben and Kristi's was beyond amazing. The place was better in person, the space was immaculate, close in proximity to pretty much everything, and B+K were amazing hosts! My only regret is that we didn't get to meet in person. ABSOLUTELY stay here if you're going to Portland; I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Definitely will be coming back in the future!! :} :}
Ben and Kirst were great. Very responsive to any questions and made sure we had a good time. The place was clean, comfortable and had a bit of character. Really close to the yellow line which provides access to most of the sights around Portland. Thanks guys!
They were great! The space is pleasant and inviting. Benjamin and Kristi were very friendly and had great suggestions for local spots to check out. We'd happily stay again!
Very friendly hosts even though we didn't get a chance to meet in person. Super clean, cute & cozy pad & just what we needed for our stay while looking for a permanent rental. Thank you!
Fantastic place to stay! Was in a great location and close to public transport so could get around easily. Benjamin and Kristi were very helpful with tips and checking to see everything was going well. The basement itself was well equipped and comfortable. Wish I could have stayed longer!
Comfy, cozy and we couldn't have asked for more! Easy access to the best restaurants in town (Tasty and Sons for a start) and quick to NW and beyond. Thanks guys!
Wonderful! The place was so cozy and homey and very convenient. Wish I'd had more time to explore the neighborhood! Thank you!
