Beautifully appointed and charming 1 bedroom with King bed, 1 bath duplex situated on a gorgeous garden, Secret Garden Santa Monica has been a labor of love and elegantly offers what is best about Santa Monica; moderate weather and close proximity to both the beach and the mountains and easy access to all points in Los Angeles. Popular with snow birds and families of locals...a rare find as I am usually booked ; ) and includes parking! I love to hear a bit about my guests during the booking process ; ).

Stunning garden property with rural charm situated just blocks from downtown Santa Monica, central to markets, restaurants, theaters, yoga studios, and just a ten minute walk to downtown and then just blocks from the beach! Considered a Walker's Paradise location by third party raters.

At the back of what many describe as Secret Garden Santa Monica is this lovely 500 sq foot unit. With Venetian plaster walls, hard wood floors, travertine in kitchen and bath, crown molding, recessed lighting, fresh, new linens, King bed in bedroom, feather pillowed sofa, it's a hidden jewel. A perfect blend of yin and yang, masculine and feminine; a sunny, simple, sweet, uncluttered and quiet unit. Empty closets and chests for short term storage and full bath with tub. Two sided desk, with wifi, Apple TV, cable and HBO, and garden views, super clean with plenty of charm.

The masterpiece is the Tuscan inspired garden, set in a central courtyard, with over 500 flower blooming plants ranging from bougainvillea to sage, lavender, hydrangea and roses and nearly 2500 square feet of park-like garden. Perfect for having garden company with local friends or family and then to retire to your own unit. Close enough to downtown to make it easy to walk for fit guests, far enough away to give a sense of peace.

The garden is yours to explore and enjoy, although the large table is wonderful, and in the common courtyard, a smaller table is around the corner on a path to the left. Cut some fresh flowers and pick some thyme or rosemary for cooking!

It's a walker's paradise; wonderful coffee shops (Funnel Mill, Groundworks, Starbucks, and Peets), health food stores (Co-op and Whole Foods); all just blocks from unit. Walk to Tiffany's and Santa Monica Place, Third St. Promenade, yoga studios, movie theaters, and many of the best restaurants on the west side of Los Angeles, (Melisse, Jiraffe, Capo, Michaels, as well as less expensive choices, (the Golden Mean, Real Food Daily, Pono Burger, Fritto Misto, Tender Greens, Mercado, Border Grill, Huckleberry's, Rustic Canyon). Just blocks from the Broad Stage for cultural events and from Vons, Whole Foods, and the Co-op and of course just blocks from the world famous Santa Monica Pier, Palisades Park, and the Pacific Ocean. A few minutes drive to Montana Avenue, and Main Street for upscale shopping. Close to Venice, Pacific Palisades, 25 minutes drive from Los Angeles Airport, (LAX), gateway to Malibu (25 minutes), downtown Los Angeles (25 minutes).

Short blocks to the new Expo line; making this even more of a Walker's Paradise! Take the new line to Culver City, Downtown Los Angeles, etc! Lovely views along the way, too!!

Guest access

Guests love the garden!! It's truly a special plus while living so close to a major city center. They have access to the garden; there are two spaces to enjoy, the large table in the garden and a smaller one past the table coming from the back to the left. Guests can wander freely through the garden. There's a great parking spot too, in the back and laundry, and BBQ for warm summer afternoons/early evenings when the sun still is up.

Interaction with guests

Sometimes if timing is right I get to meet and interact. Other times my husband will connect as he is frequently taking care of things on the property. I always love meeting travelers and hope to always meet and introduce our garden property. It's all very intuitively set up and we are always available to help.. The neighborhood

Proximity to all is the major plus about our neighborhood and our garden property is a quiet oasis just minutes from downtown. Santa Monica is a world class city and a wonderful beach community. That's a nice combination and it's all easily accessed from Secret Garden Santa Monica. While it's not a Patrician address, this property has been gently nurtured and this and its garden set the tone for a restful and enchanting stay.

Getting around

The best way to get around Santa Monica is walking, (I frequently walk day or evening safely), bike riding (day time), taxi, (wearing heels?) or car. There is a rental car agency within walking distance.

Other things to note

Too many things to do in Santa Monica to list. One nice thing is to plan to go to the Getty (Villa or Museum - two locations; one on Pacific Coast Hwy, one with amazing Los Angeles City views in Brentwood, both about 15 minutes from home) Casa del Mar, the Fairmont (Fig Restaurant 50% off happy hour 5-6pm food and drinks) or Shutters Hotels for sophisticated cocktails (all gorgeous, world class and favorites) and also the Lowes Hotel for a day pass to their gym. It's affordable, elegant, has a pool and steam room, and ocean view. Also Doug at the salon there is a great hair stylist and reasonable priced. Santa Monica probably has more yoga studios than any place in the world (lol) and the Getty Museums are both close. The Annenberg Community Beach House is definitely worth visiting and has a public pool, right at the beach and the little cafe there called Back at the Beach is always a nice easy beachy breakfast place and walk to Blue Daisy (6th and Broadway) is one of our favorite breakfast spots too! Too many wonderful things to list...

Please do not smoke on the property and please do not disturb neighbors! There are usually only single quiet neighbors usually in each of the houses near us as well who I always hope won't be bothered or a bother, ; ).

Please do not put shoes on the bath mat, (clean toes only).

Of course, only nice people need apply and I will do my best to make a comfortable and happy stay for you! Although a parking spot is included if you park on the street make sure it's on OUR side of the street out front with our parking pass (watch out for street cleaning day) and be aware of some crazy SANTA MONICA parking rules that are impossible to decipher. ; ) additional paperwork may be necessary to be signed by our guests…
And IDs may be asked to be shown. Airbnb understands that we have some local requirements that we comply with. ; )

I booked Cara's property for my brother and sister in law and they both were very pleased. They said the property is beautiful just like in the pictures. They also appreciated that the property was in walking distance to several places they needed to go to. Cara was fantastic! We enjoyed a week at Cara's apartment, and it was wonderful. The garden is truly magical & I am going to really miss it. The apartment has everything we needed for a relaxing stay, and Cara was always only a text message away if we had questions. The neighborhood is great, we walked all over the place and checked out some of Cara's recommendations- the Pono Burger is my new favorite. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax in bustling LA, Cara's place is perfect. We would love to come back and stay here again!

This is a very charming well-located guest suite in a quiet and convenient location overlooking a beautiful garden complete with a gurgling fountain. Although it comes with a parking space,it's a very easy walk to many locations and to the beach. It is sunny and immaculate with a very comfortable bed and bedside reading lights. It has a full kitchen with a table for 2 and a very large closet in the bedroom. A lovely place to enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea looking out over the flowers and palm trees. There is a strong and fast wi-if connection. Just be aware that access is up an outdoor stairway,as the unit is above a garage. There is a pay for use washer and dryer on the property. Cara is extremely helpful and responds quickly to any questions . We highly recommend this property.

Yes, both of the back units are above garages but only one garage is used on a very part time basis, and not the one under this unit. The fact that only one wall is shared (kitchen is back to back) makes this a rather private and quiet unit, no one under or on any of the three other sides. Best to you both!!! So glad that extra night worked out for you!

Cara's place is wonderful and everything is as described. The apartment is very clean and has all the equipment one needs. Cara was very helpful with everything, and always answered straight away to any of my questions. She was also very flexible and understanding when I had a cancelled flight and had to arrive one day late. The garden is so lovely and a big plus, especially in a huge city like L.A. There are a few neighbors sharing the garden, but as it is pretty big, you will definitely find your own space. The location is also very good, only 1,5km to the beach. The nearest few blocks are basically only car dealers etc., but if you walk five minutes, there are cafés, restaurants and shops. And when you walk ten minutes, you are already at the 3rd Street which is really nice for everything. Car parking included is a huge plus too. I definately recommend this place!

wake up from sweet dream,amazed at my property is an old house,full of plants,like Alice in wonderland:) so many great places to see so close by,on Ocean Avenue there r many upscale restaurants,and the pier can be fun. the location is super gteat ,go along with Broadway Avenue to the Von surpermarket with California sunshine.The Unite State what is large,everything whatever,the fun!back to the big crab legs,the king prawns and other seafood,u know the Pacific seafood with"salt",just like the hansome boy in US,then,we went for a great buffet lunch,should be brunch indeed, feel American life style here.remember went on the feet to Santa Monica beach,just a short time, with seagills on the beach,lazy laying down to see the sea and the sunshine,miraculously charming early in the morning.thank s Cara couple,give us a wonderful place,i will back again,and interduce the house to my friends.

My husband and I are blessed to have recently acquired a vacation home in beautiful Three Rivers, California at the entrance to the Sequoia National Park and we love sharing it with visitors, please stop by on your way through California! We have lived in Santa Monica for several decades and certainly consider it home as my parents met on Wilshire Blvd in the 1940's and played on the pier and the beaches here early in their marriage. Eric is an East Coast transplant and other than Sequoia isn't heading east again any time soon. Santa Monica is a lovely place to live, close by the sea and a cooler place to live in the summer than our inland neighbors. Our property is a few short blocks from downtown Santa Monica; close to several great health food stores, the Co-op and Whole Foods, Tiffany's (!) and Santa Monica place, yoga studios, restaurants, markets, the library and great coffee shops. The new metro is a ten minute or less walk from where we are which is super cool and over all it's a place one can find happiness and tranquility. Walking, bike riding, rollerblading; all options for getting around and all in an area that has so much to offer so close by! A designer at heart, we've loved creating a beautiful place for guests. Santa Monica is both a small town and a major worldwide destination: truly remnants of the past at an intersection with major change. Cannot live without aesthetics, modern technology and ideals, (shared economy understanding) the Golden Rule, and flowers!! Inspired by our travels to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Europe, we created our beautiful garden to reflect a place of beauty and peace and are excited to share it with travelers. While I handle our guests, my husband is the construction and technical brain in the nuts and bolts department. Looking forward to meeting new people through this rental process!!!!!
