Stunning garden property with rural charm situated just blocks from downtown Santa Monica, central to markets, restaurants, theaters, yoga studios, and 12 blocks from the beach! Considered a Walker's Paradise location by third party raters.
FIRST Season on AIRBNB! Beautifully appointed 1 bedroom, 1 bath, vacation rental upper; more a duplex as it only shares one kitchen wall with a single quiet neighbor. At the back of what many describe as Secret Garden Santa Monica is this lovely 500 sq foot upper unit. With Venetian plaster walls, hard wood floors, travertine in kitchen and bath, crown molding, recessed lighting, fresh, new linens, queen bed in bedroom, feather pillowed sofa for sleeping for one in living room (if necessary-not a pull-out) it's a hidden jewel. A perfect blend of yin and yang, masculine and feminine; a sunny, simple, sweet, uncluttered and quiet unit. Empty closets and chests for short term storage and full bath with tub. Two sided desk, with wifi, Apple TV, garden views, super clean with plenty of charm.
The masterpiece is the Tuscan inspired garden with over 500 flower blooming plants ranging from bougainvillea to sage, lavender, hydrangea and roses and nearly 2500 square feet of park-like garden. Perfect for having garden company with local friends or family and then to retire to your own unit. Close enough to downtown to make it easy to walk for most guests, far enough away to give a sense of peace.
The garden is yours to explore and enjoy, athough the large table is wonderful, a smaller table is around the corner on a path to the left. Cut some fresh flowers and pick some thyme or rosemary for cooking!
It's a walker's paradise; wonderful coffee shops (Funnel Mill, Starbucks, and 18th St. Cafe), health food store (Co-op); all just 3 - 6 blocks from unit. 7 blocks from Fred Segal, 9 from Tiffany's and Santa Monica Place, Third St. Promenade, yoga studios, movie theaters, and many of the best restaurants on the west side of Los Angeles, (Melisse, Jiraffe, Capo, Michaels, La Botte) as well as less expensive choices, (the Golden Mean, Real Food Daily, Pono Burger, Fritto Misto, Mercado, Border Grill, Huckleberry's, Rustic Canyon). 1 block from the Broad Stage for cultural events and 5 blocks from Vons and of course 12 - 13 blocks from the world famous Santa Monica Pier, Palisades Park, and the Pacific Ocean. 4 minute drive to Montana Avenue, and Main Street for upscale shopping. Bikes are usually on the property to borrow. Close to Venice, Pacific Palisades, 25 minutes drive from Los Angeles Airport, (LAX), gateway to Malibu (25 minutes), downtown Los Angeles (25 minutes) 1 week minimum please. $140.00 per night for two guests. $35.00 more per night for 1 extra guest.
First season on short term rental market. Permit for parking available and a parking spot as well, or just walk, bus, bike everywhere! You won't need a car!
Guests have access to the garden; there are two spaces available, the large table in the garden and a smaller one past the table coming from the back to the left. Guests can wander freely through the garden. There's a great parking spot too, and laundry, and bbq for warm summer afternoons.
Sometimes if timing is right I get to meet and interact. Other times my husband will connect as he is frequently taking care of things on the property. Infrequently I don't get to meet our guests at all as their flights have come in late or early and the guests are busy during their stay. I always love meeting travelers and hope to always meet and introduce our garden property.
Proximity to all is the major plus about our neighborhood and our garden property is a quiet oasis minutes from downtown. Santa Monica is a world class city and a wonderful beach community. That's a nice combination and it's all easily accessed from Secret Garden Santa Monica. While it's not a Patrician address, this property has been gently nurtured and this and it's garden set the tone for a restful and enchanting stay.
The best way to get around Santa Monica is walking, (I frequently walk day or evening safely), bike riding (day time), taxi, (wearing heels?) or car. There is a rental car agency, several in fact, within walking distance.
Too many things to do in Santa Monica to list. One nice thing is to plan to go to Lowes Hotel for a day pass to their gym. It's affordable, elegant, has a pool and steam room, and ocean view. Also Doug at the salon there is a great hair stylist and reasonable priced. Santa Monica probably has more yoga studios than any place in the world (lol) and the Getty Museums are both close. The Annenberg Community Beach House is definitely worth visiting and has a public pool, right at the beach.

Cara's apartment is very well set up to provide a very good compact place for a holiday stay. There was good storage space, adequate instructions and recommendations and all necessary equipment. Cara was an available but discreet presence. The location is OK but some distance from the shops and beach and a car is really necessary. The highlight of the flat is the wonderful garden which is pure heaven to sit out in.
I am reluctant to tell you about this place, because I want it all to myself. But, because Cara is so nice, I will. How does "Perfection" sound? Gorgeous Tuscan decor, every inch. Bright. Fabulous garden. Relatively quiet for such a good location. So many thoughtful details, like proper, sharp kitchen knives, soft TP...just overall delightful.
I greatly enjoyed my stay. She was a wonderful host, very responsive and the apartment was exactly as advertised. I am a writer and I traveled alone, and found her place to be very, very comfortable. She has a nice, little table by the window where I would sit and do my writing. And the neighbors are very quiet and respectful. it was very easy for me to relax and get sleep. the beach is an easy 20 minute walk from her apartment, and there is even a nice little coffee place which only takes about 8-10 minutes walking, depending on how fast you walk. Enjoy!
Cara's place is simply lovely and the garden even more beautiful and incredibly serene. The apartment is conveniently located close to the 3rd street promenade and the beach. The apartment is wonderfully stocked should you be interested in cooking. And Cara was a great and responsive host if we had any questions!
Cara's apartment is absolutely beautiful, the perfect place for a quiet and romantic getaway!! It is one of five apartments in a small quadrangle with a stunning central garden that can be accessed y guests. There is off street parking at the rear which is super convenient and the apartment itself is furnished beautifully.
Its an 12 block walk to the beach and famous Santa Monica pier but you may choose to drive/taxi of an evening time - still, its only $5-10 ride. Some amazing restaurants nearby and, generally,a great buzz around the place.
Cara herself is a delight! She met us onsite to exchange the keys and give us a tour and run down of everything we needed to know... she even had some drinks chilling in the fridge for us!! The entire experience was simple and quick with great communication the whole way along.
I would absolutely recommend Cara's apartment and if I am ever in the area again would definitely return.
Thank you Cara for your amazing hospitality!!
What a beautiful review! Thank you so much, Zoe. You were both delightful. Just wanted to make a note that the unit number is four; a small house, a cottage, and then the two at the back. So happy you enjoyed Santa Monica and the weather was so lovely while you were. Please come stay again! and hi to Melbourne! ; )
I had great times in Cara's house. The place is so cute, the bed is so comfortable, the kitchen is complete and Cara is a wonderful host! There is a beautiful garden when I spent my times just enjoying the flowers. I had three very good weeks there.
Cara's place is a heavenly romantic getaway. The garden is so delightful and welcoming. The apartment is smaller than it appeared in photos, but we didn't mind one bit. It was so lovely and charming and tasteful and elegant and... It had everything we could have needed or wanted to feel right at home and yet also away on a luxurious vacation. (She has a fantastic selection of academy award nominated videos too, although we couldn't figure out how to work the DVD player/TV, unfortunately.) Cara herself could not have been sweeter. We were what I (as an airbnb host myself) would consider difficult guests, with a lot of needs and special requests before and even during our stay. Cara was kind, patient and responsive to everything we asked and accommodated us as best as she could. She even took my call while we were at her house and she was away on her own vacation. Really, a delightful woman. And a truly wonderful experience overall. We loved the location, close enough to the beach to bike there but far enough to be in a nice, quiet little neighborhood that offered the peace and serenity we'd hoped for. And it's just 3 blocks from the local co-op, which we happily frequented. As you can see, we loved our stay. Couldn't recommend it enough!
Hi Susan! The DVD player is accessed by INPUT on the TV REMOTE; and then AVI is the next entry on the screen (AUDIO VIDEO INTERLEAVED). A common mistake is pointing the DVD remote at the TV instead of the DVD player. ; ) , then it's just point at the DVD player and play, it's so maddening when things don't seem to work! THANKS for the great review! xoxo
Cara is a wonderful host and her place in Santa Monica is perfect! We had the best time there and this beautiful spot is the best base for a stay in LA.
