Living in a Traditional Maltese Home
To make your stay in our historic Valletta apartment as comfortable as possible, please keep the following local tips in mind:
Fresh Air & Ventilation: Our walls are made of traditional globigerina limestone. This stone "breathes," which keeps the flat cool in summer but can feel humid in spring. For the best air circulation, we recommend opening the front balcony doors.
The Internal Shafts: The back windows open onto a light-well (shaft). In Malta, these are designed for air circulation within the building's structure, not for primary ventilation. Keeping these closed helps keep the humidity and occasional local insects out!
Mosquito Protection: Even in the cooler months, mosquitoes can be active. We have provided a mosquito plug-in machine, which you can find tucked away in the [insert cupboard location]. It’s very effective if used overnight!
Local Maintenance: We take great care of this historic building. If you notice any issues with the plumbing or external pipes—or if the "stone scent" is bothering you—please message us immediately. We are locals and can usually offer a quick fix or a simple explanation!
