Interaction with Guests

I am looking forward to making new friends and sharing the beauty that is Hawaii with those who stay at Angel's Nest. I am happy to share my knowledge of the island, just ask.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is small, beautiful, peaceful, quiet and charming, perfect for strolling thru, either on your way to the beach or just for the sake of a stroll thru the neighborhood. You may enjoy the vine swing on one of your strolls or just the many beautiful flowers and plants. You may discover one of the lesser known paths to the ocean. Perhaps you may want to hike to the lava, it's just a few miles down the famous "red road". At the end of the "red road" you will find Uncle Robert's awa bar, be sure to check out the Wednesday night market at Uncle's, it's the place to be! Next door to Uncle's is the Kalapana Café, a great place to get something tasty to eat. Going the other way on the "red road" just a short distance (still in the neighborhood) is the Ramashala Yoga retreat and just a mile or so farther is the Kalani Honua Yoga retreat. In between those two is "Space" where there is a fabulous farmers market on Saturday. A few more miles down red road you will find Ahalanui beach park, also known as the warm pond. Further still you will find Kapoho tide pools, a famous snorkeling spot. Sunday there is the Makuu market, it is the largest of the markets. Also on Sunday there is ecstatic dance at Kalani and the drum circle at Kehena Beach, so much to do, so little time!

Getting around

best to have a car, the bus goes by twice a day except Sundays, but unless you plan to pretty much stay put or hitchhike, you will need a car.

  • I had an amazing time with Angel, Gabriel & their lovely family & friends that i met.
Sleeping & chilling out in a jungle paradise, the balance between enjoying my private space & socialising was perfect.
Great selection of fresh coffee in the room & a beautiful basket of fruit/pastry for breakfast :0)

  • A warm welcome by Angel and Gabriel in a magnificient place surrounded by tropical fruit trees, with those fruits being available to eat every morning with Kona coffe or tea, and homemade cakes. Very nice to learn about the Island and its inhabitants from local people.
    A truly very enjoyable stay.

  • Angel and Gabriel have been gracious hosts and have truly spread the "Aloha" spirit. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at their home in the "jungle" (where frogs and crickets sing you asleep). The fresh fruit basket made for a nice start into the morning. I hope to be back sometime!

  • I had a wonderful experience with Angel and Gabriel. There beautiful home is located in a peaceful and lush tropical area, enjoyed the proximity to Black Sands Beach, hot ponds, and lava fields. The room was great, and a sweet touch of a morning fruit and pastry bowl, and the family is such joyful company. Looking forward to staying with them again :)

  • Angel's Nest was everything I hoped for: A quiet retreat with friendly and helpful hosts, in a beautiful setting. The room is small but comfortable, with a private entrance and lanai. Angel brought me fresh fruits and banana bread every day(papaya for breakfast-YUM). The ocean is a short walk away, and photo ops are plentiful. Puna is not your tourist-y Hawai'i- It's wild, gorgeous, and undeveloped(so far). Highly recommended getaway for nature lovers. I'll be back!

  • Wonderful stay with Angel and Gabriel - so warm and welcoming. When I stayed, Angel was relatively new to Airbnb, but she’s got a gift for hospitality - quick to offer/provide whatever you need if she has it. Not to mention, of course, providing a wealth of information for things to do in the area.

The space itself is small but lovely, with its own private entrance and small lanai, big screened windows on two sides and screened sliding door on the other so you feel totally “in nature.” And while you’re sharing the bath with the rest of the house, you’re closer to it than anyone else (literally right next door), and I never had a problem getting in when I wanted to. Every day, you get a wonderful basket of fruits (papaya, bananas, grapefruit, limes, rambutan - almost all right from their property) as well as fresh-baked banana (or other fruit) bread. They’re both seriously “good people,” and Gabriel is a very talented artist and drummer. Had many good chats with both of them.

Great location, just 10 minute walk (or 2-minute drive) from the clothing-optional, swimmable (if you’re a decent swimmer - though currents are tricky) Kehena Black Sand Beach. Note: Do NOT just wear flip-flops if you’re going to the beach; the somewhat treacherous climb down to the beach requires Teva-like shoes - trust me, you don’t want to to take a tumble on sharp lava rock). If you’re open-minded and up for an adventure, plan your stay to include hitting the Sunday drum circle/party at the beach: suffice to say, the 60’s are alive and well in all their positive glory…

Also 20 minutes to The Warm Ponds, 25 to Kapoho Tide Pools, 15-20 to Pahoa, and 10 to the Wednesday night community market/concert/gathering at Uncle Robert’s in Kalapana (also a don’t-miss).

  • Our stay at Angel's Nest @ Kehena Beach was a enjoyable one.
We hadn't experienced a B&B before, so wasn't sure what to expect.
Angel was a lovely warm lady who was enjoyable to chat with. Angel provided us with a fresh fruit basket each morning which was a great way to start the day, not to mention the selection of coffee.
The location was good for us to explore that side of the Big Island, we did the beaches, macadamia nut farm, Hilo, two steps for snorkelling, volcano at night, markets, lava fields all from Angel's Nest. Pahoa the town up the road also has some excellent restaurants.
    Thank you Angel & Gabriel

  • Loved the location of this listing! So close to Kehena black sand beach. Angel was super easy to communicate with and a lovely host. Although the room is attached to the main house, you definitely feel like you have your privacy. We really appreciated a basket of fruit and pastries delivered to our room. Food can sometimes be difficult to find in this pocket of the island so it was great to have some fresh healthy snacks on hand. Aloha Angel for a delightful stay!
