Testaccio is a bit off the beaten tourist track, but contains many restaurants serving traditional Roman fare, and the area around Monte Testaccio is becoming dense with night clubs.
The life of the Testaccio district is divided into two distinct zones.
Watershed located between the popular area and daily and the more chaoticof those who make the small hours,
is via Galvani. On the one hand Piazza Santa Maria Liberator,
heart and common area of the district, other via di Monte Testaccio, with its local and the 'Movida'.

TO VISIT ***
The "Monte dei Cocci or Monte Testaccio" (Latin Mons Testaceum), is an Archaeological Site to visit, is true "dump" of Ancient Rome made up of countless layers of neatly arranged pieces (in Latin testae, hence the name of the mountain ) of ancient amphorae that contained oil or winelanded from the nearby river port
on the Tiber and for sale in Rome.
From the Betic and Africa and used for transporting oil, with a spherical shape and the trademark of one of the two loops. With a brush, there was a quill traced the name of the exporter, the consular date and the log of the various controls from start to finish. The dating of these amphorae is between the 140 and the third century AD

The apartment in testaccio was very nice, as described and in a nice neighborhood. It was a little off the tourist track but since we were there for one month it was nice to be away from all of the tourists. Good connections to the city center by bus which is very close by and metro which we didnt use much. The beds were comfortable, shower pressure was nice and water was hot. There was also a washing machine and all that you need to cook meals in the kitchen. Also it was in a gated area so we always felt safe. The only problem we had was the Internet. There was no wifi connection only Internet key to plug into our computer. And sometimes it was very slow! There are some cafes with wifi near by. We also thought from the pictures that there was a couch and a second bed but really there is only a sofa bed. Our fault for not asking. Otherwise we very much enjoyed our stay! We will miss Rome!
Location, location, location! We stayed 4 nights here for a short trip to Rome and it worked out perfectly. Our hostess, Francesca, was wonderful and was very concerned about our comfort during the stay. The apartment was much nicer, private and more comfortable than staying in a hotel. It is very close to the Piramide Metro which is only 2 stops from the Colosseum and more than one night we walked back to the apartment from central Rome. We also walked to the Appian Way (Appian Antiqa) all the way to the catacombs at San Bernadino. It seemed much longer than my map said, but would have made a great bike ride. The washing machine worked out great for us and we loved the water pressure in the shower. Grazie Francesca!
The location can't be beat. Francesca took great care of the apartment, everything was comfortable for me, and she had no problem when i have a few extra guests for a weekend. I would certainly stay here again. The only issue is slow internet, but that was great for my vacation mode.
