We still have a few openings during SXSW. Plenty of off street safe parking and the pool will be open! I have guests this year from UK and around the US so far.
***SXSW specials room available***we have several options for you: one is : a Private room in an experimental environmental home with shared entrance and bath.
Solid wood vaulted ceilings and full sized bed, fully furnished with Handmade furniture throughout which are built on site in our solar workshop.
Relax and refresh in our abundant nature and gardens and pool (in season)
or energize taking in our Solar powered electric system or rainwater catchment, permaculture or other various healthy choices.
we are a house of 4
Seaton, loving life and doing tai chi or building his WOW water business - locally made refreshing healthy beverages,
or Lori who loves Hawaii and recently spent the summer working with autistic children on a local horse farm.
From time to time other rooms are open if one of us is travelling, or our guest room as in the photos seen.
we also have a '48 greyhound bus outfitted to Elvis when he's in town and a vintage Spartan travel trailer underway for yogis, festival goers, and all sorts of mystic travellers.
AND you might consider us a seaonal place since we do not have any central heat or air conditioning. this is partially a health and lifestyle choice/ doing more with less and a function of our being off grid and generating our power exclusively from our on site solar.
that said, the pool is quite cooling and we are in a breezey area set in the woods. And in the winter we have a fireplace and 2 woodstoves often going.
Our water supply is similar and we ask you be sensitive to this resource, both in staying with us and whereever you can.
Enjoy yourself and think good thoughts. Know we are doing our best to conserve and contribute to the ease and flow by living with less and getting more out of it. Whether it's a shorter shower or fewer lights on.
Enjoy and respect the abundance of other life that shares our land - be it plant, insect, water soil, silence or smiles!
Deer fox raccoon, yes armadillo and possum, owl coyote - to name a few.
Cole was very welcoming and easy-going and the house was fine. Not exactly as advertised, but everything we needed worked and the house is cozy, not too far from Downtown Austin. We had a great time here.
It was a great place to sleep. I came in late and left early each morning. Finally got to meet Coleman the last day. Hoping to stay here again next time I am in Austin.
Coleman showed great concern for my well being in Austin. His rustic, Eco-friendly house represents the true spirit of Austin, Texas. The house appears to be off the beaten path, but it is near SoCo and not far from Downtown at all. To see Texas and to see Austin, I recommend his home.
Coleman's place is a must see for all eco-minded folk traveling through the Austin area.
I didn't feel welcome. The neighborhood is out of the way and squallid. I've stayed and worked in dozens of hostels so I know all about communal living and being a good host. I could never treat a customer as inhospitably as Coleman treated me. The house looks like it has never been cleaned. I saw multiple buliding code violations. Electricity ran out every night because he runs everything off a decrepid solar panel system. The house wreaks of smoke because the only source of heat is an inefficient fireplace that only heats the living room. I woke up freezing every morning.
He found me bc this was the least expensive room he could find. He asked me with passion about how I was on solar energy and he wanted to stay much longer and I was not only booked but didnt feel comfortable with him. He slept during the day bc he had a night job so I cant speak to this waking up at night bit. My guests know I am wood heat only.
Very interesting cool stay for an experience in intentional living. Accurate description, great location, and Coleman is fantastic with communication and a really relaxed and welcoming host.
Cole's place was my first stop when I moved to Austin. It was the perfect choice and had everything I needed: a quiet and relaxed home, close to work and to the next bus station to get downtown in a couple of minutes, always working wifi and lots of nice places outside to listen to the wind and the trees. Cole has solar power in his house and one night power was off so I sat in the yard and was lucky to watch two huge owls landing in the trees.
I would definitely book it again. Now that I stay in an appartment I miss its peaceful atmosphere. Cole himself is a welcoming host and helped me getting settled for the first days. You should also have a look at his selfmade wooden bowls and plates. Thanks again, Cole, for my housewarming gift!

I enjoy meeting new people and sharing the world I've carved up on in Austin. i love nature and peace it brings me. I grew up in New Hampshire and also love to travel.
I once had a pig named Penelope. and I like handmade items antiques gardening and all things mystical.
It's important to me to do what I can to keep our planet healthy and share ideas that make this happen gracefully and including all people.
