Our quiet, peaceful, and secluded guest house lies less than 1/4 mile above Bernardus Lodge (approx 10 miles from Carmel). It shares no direct sight lines with any neighboring structures. The guest house is spacious yet cozy for two people.
Our quiet, peaceful, and secluded guest house lies less than 1/4 mile above Bernardus Lodge (approx 10 miles from Carmel). It shares no direct sight lines with any neighboring structures. The guest house is spacious yet cozy for two people at approximately 600 square feet. The bedroom is separate from the open-plan living room w/ dining table and kitchenette. It has beautiful views onto Garland Ranch Park and Garzas Canyon. Scan the valley for soaring hawks, turkey vultures, and many other bird species. Visits from black-tail deer are quite frequent. Bask in all day sun from the south-facing panorama deck view.
The guest house is minutes from Leguna Seca (5), Monterey (15-20), Pacific Grove (25), Garland Park (2), Wine Tasting and Carmel-by-the-Sea (10-15). It is approximately 45 minutes to Big Sur.
Enjoy all the Monterey Peninsula has to offer or just relax and rest in the sun, fresh air, and gorgeous views from the deck!
The guest house was completely remodeled in 2006. We constantly try to improve the guest experience.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Interaction with Guests
My parents live in the main house. They will stay out of your way but are very friendly and helpful if you need anything.
The guest house is in a private neighborhood. Although it is close to lots of amenities you will feel as if you're perched above the valley in your own special place.
Other Things to Note
The guest house is very private - it will be unlocked with keys on the entry table when you arrive. Please consult the directions you received when booking but let me know if you have any questions in the meantime!
We expect that you will treat our guest house as you would treat your own (unless you are a hoarder or very messy person). Please no pets and no smoking. There is a JBL OnBeat bluetooth wireless speaker system with both 30 pin and lightning charger docks for older and newer iPods/Phones/Pads.
The view from this property was amazing. The place is well furnished with the essentials and is walking distance to the Bernadus lodge, where my wife and I had dinner. When we came home, we had managed to lock ourselves out, but Rogers was quick to return a call and point me to the hidden spare set of keys. Overall, great experience and would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Carmel Valley.
We had such a lovely stay. The place was great and the view was breathe taking. Rogers dad was super helpful giving suggestions on where to go for lunch, dinner etc. I highly recommend if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.
Mixed feelings on this one - On the positives, overall lovely guesthouse with great location and views
On the negatives, we had issues with the cleanliness of the property which hadn't been cleaned when we arrived and the bathroom sliding door was broken. This was fixed the next day and we were refunded one night plus cleaning fee. However we also noticed the duvet cover hadn't been cleaned. Rogers subsequently agreed to get this cleaned but this never happened despite Rigers continuing to promise he would take care of it. In a nutshell, his mum refused on the basis that it was dry cleaned 2 months ago and that she wasn't prepared to incur the extra cleaning costs and it is normal practice to simply use an undersheet with the duvet.
We didn't feel our request was unreasonable given how unhygienic this is as inevitably skin will end up touching the duvet cover through the night and a number of parasites can be transferred through sheets including pubic lice.
In our experience, hiccups can happen which aren't ideal especially when they are avoidable at the outset, but it's the quality of service to get the issues resolved that counts. In this case, we were left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable with the situation which tarred the overall experience.
Tejal brought some issues to light that we have subsequently fixed. I had a communication breakdown with my Mom which led to the cleaning and duvet cover mishaps mentioned above (the first time for each in 7 years of hosting!). I felt terrible as this was well below the standards we have set for our guests. As Tejal mentioned we refunded her the cleaning fee as well as first night in cash. Our duvet cover cleaning policy is now in line with that of a five star hotel!
It was a great place with a fantastic view. We had a very relaxing couple of days and the pictures reflected the property. It was a greta base to explore the valley and we did a few runs around the area which were great.
The cottage was perfect! The location was great and the views picturesque. Rodgers was extremely responsive to all my questions. It was the ideal stay and I would definitely book this place again. Thank you so much!!
We really enjoyed staying at the guest house. It's located in a wonderful area of Carmel Valley with amazing views and nearby restaurants. The house is very private, for a truly relaxing getaway. One great, unmentioned benefit of staying in Carmel Valley is the great weather. Despite being foggy on the coast, the house is inland enough that it's warm and sunny regardless. We'd absolutely stay again and recommend it to friends.
Wow wow wow! What a beautiful, cozy weekend in Carmel Valley. This place is tops--really lovely hosts, tons of privacy, and a clean, beautiful cottage with a killer deck. It's true when other reviewers say the photos don't do this place justice! I think this is an EXCELLENT deal for the nightly rate, as this area tends to be very pricey. Also, their shower totally rules. Shower with a view!
Thanks again for a wonderful weekend--we'll be back when wedding festivities aren't taking up our whole weekend!

I manage the guest house but my parents own the CV property and live in the main house. They have loved living in the Valley for the past twenty years and would be happy to share their slice of paradise with you.
Our family friend owns the Monterey Guest House & Studio and I help manage it for him.
