I also live in the house so it surly will have many communications between me and my guests.
Smooth check-in, Mei Hsun Lu greated us at the train station. She is a great host. Her room is small but comfortable and clean, it's in a traditional home near the train tracks. The trains don't run at night so we had a great night speep. This is a great place for backpackers. We were very pleased to stay at Mei Hsun Lu's place she is a very kind and helpful person.
I'll begin by saying that the host was very friendly and tried her best to make our stay comfortable. She was also quick to respond to my emails and was honest about any questions I had about the hostel before I decided to stay. It is also apparent that she put in considerable effort into making her hostel as nice as possible. The hostel was kept very clean with fresh towels provided.
That being said, I have to say that the place caught me by surprise for the price point I paid for. The hostel is located in a small alley located close to Tainan train station. The neighborhood is like a very old village. Our room (Golden Rain) is basically a cabin on the second floor. It is a tiny room that could fit only the twin bed mattresses and a small coffee table. So you'll basically be sitting on the mattress if you're to do any reading/resting in the room. The public space is also quite small with two chairs next to a kitchen stove.
The biggest thing though, is that the railway is literally directly below the house. So you can not only hear but feel the rumble every time a train goes by (like every 20 mins). And because of the construction of the place, you can feel the room slightly shaking while a train goes by. The train runs from about 6am-11:30pm. So, for me, it wasn't a very comfortable stay as I look for a place that allows me to get some decent sleep when traveling.
But again, I do appreciate the host trying her very best to offer us a comfortable stay, providing us with maps of Tainan and answering any questions we had about Tainan.
I think that with the right price point, this place would be a great fit for someone who would be outside exploring for most of the day and just needs a place to crash at night. The location also makes it very easy to access Tainan Park as well as the 88 and 99 buses that take you to various tourist sites.
