The Space

Detached 5 bedroom house in central location near Golden Gate Park and Twin Peaks.

There is plenty of free unlimited time parking a block away on Clarendon, accessible via Ashwood Lane. There is no parking allowed on my street, Oak Park or Christopher Streets, since there are houses there and having constantly rotating cars parked in front of houses is unwelcome. There are no houses on Clarendon. Instead, there is an elementary school and a fire station, both good places to park a car overnight.

You are welcome to make use of the kitchen. Large living room with a large dining room table you can eat or work at. Two decks out back. The house is on a hill, and the nearest house out back is a block away, so the view is spectacular.

You get your own bedroom with a full size bed that has a real mattress. I also provide towels, sheets and blankets.

This room is a 'guest bedroom' so you will be sharing a bathroom with my other guests. I offer the 'master bedroom' with a private bathroom in one of my other listings.

If you want to cook while you're here, you can store food in the fridge and in one of the cabinets.

The closest underground Municipal Railway (MUNI) station is Forest Hill. You can walk there in 12 minutes. The 36 MUNI bus stops there and will take you to and from the house. The bus stop is right in front of the house.

The house is centrally located, but not close to bars, shops, nightlife or anything other than other private residences. That means this location is unusually quiet and even peaceful for a busy city like San Francisco. If you stay here, please don't later complain the house is not near attractions. The location is in the geographic center of the city, so I consider it a great location, but just don't expect to walk to a museum from my front door.

I provide breakfast ingredients, including juice, English muffins, bagels, cream cheese, eggs, tea and coffee. The coffee beans are in the freezer, and I provide a coffee grinder.

I have shampoo and soap for you in the shower, and liquid hand soap at the vanity sink.

Note I require my airbnb guests to have 'verified ID' to book here. This is for the safety of my other guests. Please verify your ID before you send me a reservation request. You can send me an inquiry before you verify, but please do not attempt to actually book and pay for the room before you see the green 'verified ID' notice on your profile. If you try to book without being verified, airbnb will place a total lock on those days, preventing anyone else from buying them. Sadly, airbnb sometimes takes hours or days to verify your identity, and sometimes it is not possible to verify your ID. Then your booking will fail and you will not be able to stay here. In such a situation, I could then lose money because there may not be enough time to sell the room to someone else. This has already happened to me. So I have implemented this rule. If you violate this rule and try to book and verify in one step, I will decline your request after you are verified, and you will have to stay somewhere else. At that point, it may be too late for you to find a suitable place, so please only send me an inquiry, not a booking, if you are not yet verified. I don't mean this policy to sound unfriendly. I want you to stay here. I just don't want to take the risk of losing money if your identity can't be verified, which does happen for reasons I don't understand.

Guest Access

I have a wireless Hewlett Packard black and white laser printer for my guests to use. So if you need to print out tickets, you can. You just select the printer in your WiFi settings, and then you can print from your phone. Amazing. If you just need a sheet or two, no cost. If you have to print out lots of pages, the cost is 25 cents each.

  • My stay at kevins place were just great. He´s very helpful, gave me a lot of information where to go and what do to. He gives a really good service to his guest. It felt to me like knowing him for years even if get him to know right now.

He´s just a marvelous guy. One can feel that he´s interested in having a good time at his house. the contact with him and the other guest was characterized by mindfulness.

The house itself is clean, the room was very friendly with warm color, nice colorful bedlinen and without knick-knack - reduced to the max. And it´s really quite - you´ll sleep well. You get anything you need - even something to eat in the morning.

I highly recommend Kevin and his place. Just try it out, it´s more than worth to do it. Thanx, dear Kevin.

  • Kevin's place was amazing. He couldn't have been anymore accommodating. A ride was provided to and from our arriving and departing train stations. One of which was in Oakland. Kevin is also very knowledgeable when it comes to information about San Fran. He provided a map with personal recommendations, secret treasures of the city, and the main tourist attractions. His home and individual rooms are very comfortable and also extremely tidy. The view from the back deck is pretty amazing as well. The location is convenient as there is a bus stop right outside his neighbors house. Overall, Kevin is extremely generous and a great host. Our best experience with airbnb. We definitely recommend a stay here when in San Fran.

  • Kevin's reply was superfast. I also appreciate that he accepted our 3yo son staying with us.
The room was clean, spacious and as described. The check-in and check-out were smooth, directions were clear.
Parking is free and very close to the house. "Quiet night hours" rules are understandible since there are several guests in the house.
The greatest thing for us was that the host offered breakfast , so we did not have to worry about groceries in the evening since we stayed for one night only.
Overall, if the location and quiet hours rules suit you, this is definately a yes!

  • My sister and I enjoyed our stay with Kevin, who was very accommodating. He collected us from the airport and we were able to leave our bags before the official check-in time so we could get the most out of our time in San Fran. Kevin gave us and map of the city and explained where is good to go, plus some top tips - including a great one for Golden Gate Park (I'll let you ask him!) which is only a 20/25 min walk from the house. Public transport is also easily accessible and the room itself was lovely and clean. There was also a good bathroom, kitchen with everything you need and a lovely large lounge/dining room plus balcony you could make use of. Thank so much Kevin!

  • This was my second time staying at Kevin's house. Other guests were respectful of each other. Room was very clean. Bed was comfortable and house was quiet. I would stay here again whenever I need a quiet place to stay. I highly recommend Kevin's place!

  • Kevin was a great host! We spent 2 nights at his place. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and he was happy to answer any and all questions about San Francisco! He helped us be tourist without being "touristy". I would definitely stay with Kevin again.

  • My and two of my girlfriends took a road trip up to Humboldt and stopped in SF for a night. Kevin has a beautiful home in a lovely neighborhood. His backyard has a gorgeous view and I wish we had stayed long enough to take advantage of his patio and enjoy that view.

There was a nearby farmers market on Sunday that had some amazing food options. This is a really great location, only a few blocks away from the local muni station which was a short ride to downtown SF.

Kevin is a fantastic host and made us feel really welcome (even being flexible when I added an extra person to our stay two days before). There was even food in the fridge for us to enjoy and the room was exactly as we pictured. In short, would book again!

  • Kevin was great! My mom and I weren't able to arrive until really late that night and he was still so accommodating and kind. The next day he gave us a ton of great tips on things to do in the city. The house was clean and there was food for us to cook breakfast the next day. I definitely recommend him and his home for your next stay in the Bay Area.

About
I love being a host. I have been happily inviting guests into my home since the dawn of airbnb, way back in 2008. It was so early that airbnb had no employees yet, and one of the three co-founders had to come to my house to take the 'professional pictures' that come with membership. Since I am a photographer, he didn't take the pictures because he thought mine were better than he could take. Instead, we spent 20 minutes talking about airbnb. I knew it was going to be huge even back then. I hosted the first airbnb employee, Nick. The founders required potential employees to use the service, and Nick chose my house! He later got hired, stayed until he vested all his stock, and last I heard is now an investor, using the windfall he accumulated by being the first employee at what became a multi-billion dollar company. You can find the review Nick left for me in the reviews section. I stopped having guests for a few years because my housemates I had at the time didn't share my enthusiasm for airbnb. Then, in July 2013, my (different) housemates Shaun and Suzie suggested I use airbnb again! Finally, I had explicit permission to use this site. I took them up on it and had a lot of fabulous visitors from all over the world in the late summer of 2013. I have gotten approval to have guests from my neighbors as well, because I strive to be a good neighbor. Mine is a detached five bedroom house, so the neighbors aren't usually even aware if I have guests, but I disclosed my plans to be especially kind. I only had one family visit in October 2013. Shaun and Suzie after almost two years living here found another home and moved there October 2, 2013, so for the first time in five years or so, I had the house to myself. At first, I enjoyed the solitude, but frankly now I am eager to host some more visitors. It's simply fun being a host! I love learning about other places, and I love helping visitors discover all the San Francisco has to offer. I have been to France, Germany, Austria, Jamaica, China, Japan, Thailand, Switzerland, England, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy. It's easy to get here. You can fly into either the San Francisco or Oakland International airports. From there you can take BART, the regional train that serves the San Francisco Bay Area. BART will get you into San Francisco itself, since the airports are not actually in the City. Once you exit the BART station, you hop on a MUNI bus #36, which you catch right at the exit of the BART station... no walking. Then, you get off the #36 and you are right at my front door, again, no walking. There is plenty of free unlimited time parking a block away on Clarendon, accessible via Ashwood Lane. Ashwood Lane is a pedestrian walk way and stair case, not a regular street. Please be in good physical shape as there are a lot of stairs to climb... about half the journey is stairs. There is no parking allowed on my street, Oak Park or Christopher Streets, since there are houses there and having constantly rotating cars parked in front of houses is unwelcome. There are no houses on Clarendon. Instead, there is an elementary school and a fire station, both good places to park a car overnight. Note that Ashwood Lane does not pass by homes. This may make some guests uneasy. The 36 bus stops also on Clarendon and you may catch that bus for a quick three block ride to my house. Or you may walk the three blocks on regular streets. Ashwood Lane is simply a short cut to save walking. I am a software entrepreneur and computer programmer. I have been in the tech field through two boom/bust cycles, so I have stories to tell. I am plugged into what's happening, and I love to talk shop. I am also an accomplished photographer and a less than accomplished painter. I write a blog, and I'm good at making people feel welcome and comfortable. I hope to meet you soon.
