The space

Just one exit south from Sun River, this cabin is cozy and quiet, yet convenient to great fishing, kayaking (90 second walk to the Deschutes River), road biking and, oh right, 40 acres of forest just out the backdoor. It is a 20-25 minute drive to Bend, one exit south from Sun River and a great jumping off spot for numerous adventures or just a great place to lounge after mountain biking or skiing.
The cabin itself is simple, but cabin-elegant. There are two built-in beds and a loft for sleeping arrangements, a nice living room/dining area and a simple but stocked kitchen. It is an open space - which is has virtues and vices (virtue is that it is airy and feels spacious; vice that sharing with in-laws may be too much information and lacks privacy). There is not WiFi, as I use the cabin primarily as a writing retreat space, but there is a washer/drier and everything you need to cook up good meals and to live comfortably during your stay.

(Please note: Most of the reviews currently pertain to my place in Portland. I have two houses listed on AirBnB, and the site doesn't separate reviews. But, rest assured, I'm just as nice and generous about my Bend cabin as my Portland home.)

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 1PM

The house is straight forward. I don't have any rules, per se, but a few requests:
Foremost, just making sure that the house and woods don't burn down! In the summertime, Central Oregon is at-risk for fires. PLEASE no fires during the summer months - indoors or outdoors. If you do smoke, please make sure that butts are contained in some sort of jar and doused with water. The High Desert is beautiful in the summer, but tinderbox dry. In the winter, please make sure that the sofa isn't pushed against the base heater.

Also, please leave garbage bags inside the cabin when you leave. If left outside, the local wildlife will tear them open and toss around the backyard.

Otherwise, use the place as you would treat your mother's home.

Enjoy.

I was a little disappointed in the cleanliness of the cabin. It just needs a good deep cleaning. There were no wash cloths or hand towels in the bathroom, so I had to use a kitchen towel. There was no ice cube tray (hello, summer in central Oregon). There was also no place to eat inside - except sitting on the couch using the coffee table. The location was good and the outdoor space nice (except there were rusty screws sticking up from the deck boards).

Overall we had a great stay. If it hadn't been for the fireworks it would've been awesome, but seems like you just can't escape them! It was cool being backed up to all the land and trails that led to the river. The dogs had a blast exploring!

We booked Phil's place about a week after our trip to Sunriver a year earlier. The place we stayed the prior year cost twice as much and was half as comfortable. The only plus, it was in Sunriver. We were in the area for Pacific Crest Race weekend. We arrived during the day so getting into the key box was no issue. We liked that it was a pull up and unload type of location. No stairs or long walkways. The beds were comfortable, coffee maker worked, plenty of hot water and towels, all the kitchen basics which are a big plus in our book. The neighborhood is quiet and spaced out. We wished we had another day to make use of the deck and grill but it was a pretty busy weekend. I would say the place has a bit more wear and tear than the pictures present. We did let Phil know about some of the cleaning and maintenance items but nothing that would deter us from staying again. Definitely nothing that would keep me from recommending it to others.

Great cabin. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Sunriver. Somewhat secluded house. Really fun atmosphere. I would recommend to a friend and I would visit again.

I work as a writer and filmmaker, and seem to not stay in one place too long.
