About This Listing
Just one exit south from Sun River, this cabin is cozy and quiet, yet convenient to great fishing, kayaking (90 second walk to the Deschutes River), road biking and, oh right, 40 acres of forest just out the backdoor. It is a 20-25 minute drive to Bend, one exit south from Sun River and a great jumping off spot for numerous adventures or just a great place to lounge after mountain biking or skiing.
The cabin itself is simple, but cabin-elegant. There are two built-in beds and a loft for sleeping arrangements, a nice living room/dining area and a simple but stocked kitchen. It is an open space - which is has virtues and vices (virtue is that it is airy and feels spacious; vice that sharing with in-laws may be too much information and lacks privacy). There is not WiFi, as I use the cabin primarily as a writing retreat space, but there is a washer/drier and everything you need to cook up good meals and to live comfortably during your stay.
(Please note: Most of the reviews currently pertain to my place in Portland. I have two houses listed on AirBnB, and the site doesn't separate reviews. But, rest assured, I'm just as nice and generous about my Bend cabin as my Portland home.)
The house is straight forward. I don't have any rules, per se, but a few requests:
Foremost, just making sure that the house and woods don't burn down! In the summertime, if you do have a fire in the outdoor pit, please make sure it is fully contained and then fully extinguished. If you do smoke, please make sure that butts are contained in some sort of jar and even doused with water. The High Desert is beautiful in the summer, but tinderbox dry. In the winter, please make sure that the sofa isn't pushed against the base heater.
Otherwise, use the place as you would treat your mother's home.
Phil was great at communicating and responding to my messages very quickly. His cabin was a nature lover's dream. The first night we heard a pack of coyotes with babies howling nearby. Also we enjoyed breakfast on the deck each day next to the quaking Aspens and Pine Trees. It was a short walk from the cabin to the Deschutes river through the Forest but with a very secluded feeling.
The cabin was cozy and decorated very nicely. The beds are comfy and the kitchen well outfitted. It was the perfect place for us (naturalists attending a training) to stay in Central Oregon. Thanks Phil!
Our intent was to find a quiet place that would also serve as a base for exploring all that central Oregon has to offer. Phil's cabin definitely provided both for our short stay. We especially enjoyed dining on the front porch, and having easy access to the Deschutes River. Communication with Phil was prompt and easy, and we would return.
Phil's cabin is great! A charming little place in the woods with two full size beds, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.
It's a great place to get away from it all in a beautiful area. It's decorated well and has all the comforts you need without the distractions you don't.
Next time I'm in the area I'd have no hesitation in staying there again! Highly recommended!
Phil's cabin was ideal after a long day of hiking around Bend! Kitchen had all basic essentials to cook a simple meal, and the cabin was cozy and a lot more spacious then expected. Wood burning stove and decor gave it a great small cabin feel with modern accommodations. It felt remote, without being too far removed, and the stargazing was phenomenal. Will definitely be looking to book this space again and highly recommend!
We wanted a cozy, low-key place to take our infant on our first family getaway, and found everything we needed in Phil's house. He was a great host, being quick to respond to questions and straightforward with instructions. The cabin has the advantage of feeling quiet and remote but is only 10-15 minute drive from Sunriver, and not far from Bend. There are flat hiking trails just outside the house where you can take a stroll to the river and breathe the fresh high desert air.
What a wonderful place to spend a weekend. I booked this place for a trip with my dog and the host was very responsive to my inquiries and provided a ton of great tips on hiking the area around the cabin.
The cabin was just as described and looked exactly like the pictures. One thing the pictures don't show is the cute table and chairs on the deck, which was a great place to have breakfast or a cup of coffee. There is even an inflatable mattress in the loft area!
Although it is a cabin, it had many more amenities than I expected. I really loved this spot and would highly recommend it!
