About this listing
Our cozy house offers lots of space. We're centrally located, near downtown, the airport, and bus access. The house has many comfortable places to read, work, or talk.
We are near the airport, interstate, and downtown Des Moines.
An art-filled home on a treeful hilltop.
We are artists, cooks, and bone collectors. Our home is pleasant and full of things to explore, including lots of board games, comics, and books. Our space best accommodates 1-2 people.
Guests have wifi access, a private room, and are welcome to use the house as their own -- read books in the library. Work at the kitchen table. Play music in the living room.
This house is half home, half studio. You are wise to expect to see projects in progress, paintings drying in the library, and possibly be present during a photo shoot or a band practice. We give all guests a heads-up as to upcoming ongoings they should be aware of.
Cat meets most of the guests. Scott is more elusive. One of us is available most evenings, though aside from meals we are mostly tucked away.
We are close to downtown DSM.
Buses stop at the bottom of our hill, a block away. They will take you downtown, and from downtown anywhere else you need to go. Taxis also available.
We have awesome cats.
Guests are welcome to use the main floor of the house as their own. Enjoy the stereo, cook up a storm in the kitchen, take a long and relaxing bath. The deck outside is private and enjoyable as well.
Interaction with Guests
Cat is House Captain and is available for any needs or questions you encounter. We mostly stick to ourselves, working in our respective studios, but we are around and able to answer questions.
Our neighborhood is quiet, and provides a nice walk. Climb the hill for beautiful views of the city. Head a couple blocks west for a hike in Macrae Park. Go north and you'll hit the Des Moines city trail system and Riverwalk leading downtown.
Busses run a block from our house.
Parking is available for guests in our driveway.
The airport is a $10 taxi ride away. If driving, take a left out of the air port and drive a mile or so to Park Avenue. Take a right, and drive another mile or two. At the bottom of a hill there is a four way stop sign at South Union. Turn left. Drive one mile, almost to the end of the street: we are the last house on the right side of South Union Street.
Other Things to Note
Our house is busy but never chaotic. We try to practice overcommunication. Cat keeps late studio hours, so expect light activity at night (though if you need a good night's sleep, let her know and she'll be happy to accommodate completely). Under normal circumstances you should expect to hear her pad around the house, talking to cats, moving paintings, using a microwave. Noisier activities (vacuuming, cleaning) are reserved for daytime hours.
No shoes in the house (remove them by the front door). No smoking indoors. No hard drug use. No pets, generally. Don't let the cats out. Have fun!
