Our cozy house offers lots of space. We're centrally located, near downtown, the airport, and bus access. The house has many comfortable places to read, work, or talk.
An art-filled home on a treeful hilltop.
We are artists, cooks, and bone collectors. Our home is pleasant and full of things to explore, including lots of board games, comics, and books. Our space best accommodates 1-2 people.
Guests have wifi access, a private room, and are welcome to use the house as their own -- read books in the library. Work at the kitchen table. Play music in the living room.
This house is half home, half studio. You are wise to expect to see projects in progress, paintings drying in the library, and possibly be present during a photo shoot or a band practice. We give all guests a heads-up as to upcoming ongoings they should be aware of.
Cat meets most of the guests. Scott is more elusive. One of us is available most evenings, though aside from meals we are mostly tucked away.
We are close to downtown DSM.
Buses stop at the bottom of our hill, a block away. They will take you downtown, and from downtown anywhere else you need to go. Taxis also available.
We have awesome cats.
Guests are welcome to use the main floor of the house as their own. Enjoy the stereo, cook up a storm in the kitchen, take a long and relaxing bath. The deck outside is private and enjoyable as well.
We mostly keep the basement as a private space.
Interaction with Guests
Cat is House Captain and is available for any needs or questions you encounter. We mostly stick to ourselves, working in our respective studios, but we have an open door
We often invite guests to game and movie nights, and our friends have met many AirBNB guests.
Our neighborhood is quiet, and provides a nice walk. Climb the hill for beautiful views of the city. Head a couple blocks west for a hike in Macrae Park. Go north and you'll hit the Des Moines city trail system and Riverwalk leading downtown.
Busses run a block from our house.
Parking is available for guests in our driveway.
The airport is a $10 taxi ride away. If driving, take a left out of the air port and drive a mile or so to Park Avenue. Take a right, and drive another mile or two. At the bottom of a hill there is a four way stop sign at South Union. Turn left. Drive one mile, almost to the end of the street: we are the last house on the right side of South Union Street.
Other Things to Note
Our house is busy but never chaotic. We try to practice overcommunication. Cat keeps late studio hours, so expect light activity at night (though if you need a good night's sleep, let her know and she'll be happy to accommodate completely). Under normal circumstances you should expect to hear her pad around the house, talking to cats, moving paintings, using a microwave. Noisier activities (vacuuming, cleaning) are reserved for daytime hours.
No smoking indoors. No hard drug use. No scratchy shoes on the hardwood (living room and hallway upstairs). Don't let the cats out. Have fun!
I enjoyed my stay. Cat and Scott's home had a nice artistic feel. It would have been nice to get to know them a little more but it was a comfortable stay. Thanks guys!
Came for the cats and was not disappointed! Unfortunately I had a sudden change in plans and was only able to stay late one night and departed early the next morning. Cat and Scott seem like professional Airbnb'ers with how smooth everything went - the basket of goodies is a thoughtful and nice touch. With so many cats of varying personalities you're bound to find a best friend in at least one. Awesome decor and art throughout the house, and the music room rocks! Definitely wish I could have stayed longer, and would visit again if in the area.
Cat & Scott's room was just what I needed on my road trip. Their home is clean, peaceful and situated in a quiet neighborhood, all within a short drive to the downtown. They were a great fit for my travel needs.
I had a wonderful stay! Comfy and cozy. And the friendly cats were an added bonus.
Great spot. Comfortable house/room in a quiet neighborhood... literally 5 mins from Downtown DSM. Cat & Scott are very friendly hosts and made me feel right at home. No problems at all! Recommend!
I had a great experience staying with Cat and Scott. They have a charming home and were very hospitable. I arrived earlier than anticipated and surprised Cat mid-cleaning. She rolled with it, made me feel at home, and gave me some good dinner recommendations. Their home is located about 2 minutes from the center of downtown and was extremely convenient to get to and from my meeting location. I wouldn't hesitate to stay with them again.
CAT & SCOTT ARE AWESOME 10/10 WOULD AIRBNB AGAIN
THAT IS ALL
Seriously, these folks are the cat's pajamas. They have an awesome space that is within walking distance to downtown, are totally chill, and their home is just so cute. I love staying there every time I'm there and I love hanging with Scott and Cat to a slightly fanboyish degree. If you like artsy, fun people, and a nice place to lay your head, stay here. Please. I'm basically begging at this point.
Cat is an artist and Scott is a designer. We both work in the house. Cat is very outgoing and Scott is very elusive. Cat's favorite dish is pho. Scott wants to be a Ghostbuster when he grows up.
We like to wander around cities, eat food, and see art. During the "busy season" (meaning, when Des Moines isn't a snowy hellscape -- so, March-November) we host at least one AirBNB guest a week. We've got it down pat.
When you stay with us you'll be expected to make yourself at home. We host lots of business travelers, and usually the summer months are booked by long-term guests in town for internships and study programs. We enjoy them all -- but our favorites are performers and designers who book us when they come to town for their shows, plays, and concerts.
