On Mt. Davidson, one of the famous 7 HILLS of San Francisco, lies this area named MONTEREY HEIGHTS. It is located, one block above St. Francis Wood, very close to the infamous WEST PORTAL. "West Portal" is derived from it being the 'west' 'port' 'hole' of San Francisco, therefore VIEWS of western SF all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
This home was the first house built in this area .

* A Private 500 sq ft Bedroom w/ double bed, desk and sitting area, captain's chairs, fireplace, and views that overlook Western SF all the way to the Pacific Ocean--- this room was a 1920's Ballroom.

* Adjacent is the 'SHABBY CHIC" 1920's all wood room w/ view, closet, dresser, mirrors and an additional 2 bunks( "unbelievably comfortable" )
• Private Bathroom w/ granite vanity and tub/shower
• "Speakeasy Bar" w/wine cellar---this really was a 1920's SPEAKEASY

*** Washer & Dryer use with guided instructions
($3.50 per load)

YOU ARE ALSO INVITED to enjoy the Main level, a different level than your area, which has:
• A well equipped kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, glass top stove/oven, breakfast table, dishes, food storage space, etc.-- you may enjoy the use of all at anytime

• A large step down Living room w/ fireplace & two 12 ft tall windows w/ VIEWS, VIEWS, VIEWS!!!

• An oversized Dining room w/ Views!

High Speed Wireless Internet
Full kitchen-- feel free to use kitchen at anytime, for overnight stays there is coffee and nibbles, longer stays, please provide your own food ( found this is best due to so many dietary restrictions). Also, West Portal , 5 mins away, has great breakfasts and coffee shops too.

*** for long stays, Washer & Dryer use with my personal guided instructions ($3.50/ load for wash & dry)

When packing to come to San Francisco, it is always good to remember MARK TWAIN'S QUOTE, " The coldest Winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" Native San Franciscan's call it a three to four layer of clothing city.

Guest Access

I will invite you here, show you the house and amenities and then discuss access.

Interaction with Guests

You are welcome. Sometimes we share a lot and sometimes we are all so busy, we go about our day. Being a native San Franciscan, I enjoy helping with my knowledge of this beloved city.

The Neighborhood

A safe serene well established neighborhood with views, lovely walks, CLOSE to FREEWAYS , BUS LINES, restaurants, banks, stores and parks. The people that live here, stay a lifetime. It is a "happening" area in that one can travel anywhere quickly--- within the city, North or South on the 101 or 280 freeways to travel to Downtown, Peninsula/Silicon Valley, Marin, etc. --- and come home anytime day or night to beauty, safety and always to PLENTY of PARKING.

Getting around

SAN FRANCISCO is only 7 miles long by 6 1/2 miles wide.
There are many choices of ways to travel from this home--Travel by car, bus, BART, streetcar, bicycle or walk.
BUS--Bus Lines, numbers 23 Monterey and 43 Masonic, are both 2 blocks away.
BART-- Glen Park Bart station is a 5 minute bus ride away-- including the bus and BART, it takes about 15 mins to SOMA ,or Civic Center, Embarcadero,Ferry Building or any other downtown, east bay or any BART stops

5 mins to Bart and Freeways
15 mins to Golden Gate Park
15 mins to Golden Gate Bridge
15 mins to Ocean
15 mins to Cable Cars
--- a few of SF attractions and conveniences from this home

Other Things to Note

When packing to come to San Francisco, Mark Twain's quote is a good thing to remember, " The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco"- this is a city of layer clothing

  • I stayed at Dee's lovely historic home for 3 nights and loved every moment. Her dog Sammy and I became fast friends and she allowed me to walk him around the neighborhood. Dee moved into the home in 1956 as a young girl, and I enjoyed learning the history of the home. The fog lifted and the view fro my room was 180 degrees of the ocean. Dee offered great directions and suggestions for meals. I was visiting my grandson at City College and it was a perfect place to stay.

  • Dee's home had all the charm and character described. The views and the comforts of her home did not disappoint one bit. The space downstairs was private and extremely comfortable. Dee had a space cleared for us in her refrigerator and allowed us complete access to anything we needed in the kitchen. Dee was incredibly kind and resourceful. She is so passionate about her city and making sure her guests feel like family and are able to enjoy the best that San Francisco has to offer.

  • We had a great stay with Dee. Our suite had the privacy we were looking for and Dee made us feel so welcome. The view from her home was amazing and we enjoyed walking in the neighborhood to catch a nearby bus or metro. Definitely the place to stay when we make another trip to San Francisco.

  • What an surprising amazing stayover in Dee's beautiful place. I felt like a royal guest. You can feel the history of the house and the charm of authentic and spacious living. Dee is a very special host, I called her my cool city mom'
Her energy is very welcoming and the stay in one of her suits will leave you with a royal feeling. Not to mention the beautiful neighbourhood.
Public transport will bring you very easily downtown San Francisco, so if you are by car you can just park for free at Dee's and hop on the easy cheap bus/train option!

  • Dee was such a fun host :) She was very welcoming, had great energy, and made myself and my girlfriend feel right at home. She also has one of the cutest dogs which greeted us both with a big smile. Her house was in a quiet neighborhood with a magnificent view of the ocean.
The room was very roomy and open, had a separate bunk room which stayed nice and dim for mid-day naps.
We stayed for a total of about 10 days and we would highly recommend this place as well as Dee for those who like to interact with their hosts, and enjoy a neighborhood setting near San Francisco.
Those of you who are avid bikers, it is quite a hilly area, which makes going out very easy and downhill, but a hell of a workout to get back!! So for those hoping to bike their way everywhere in town, beware!!

  • The views from the bedroom are incredible. The bathroom was beautiful, warm and inviting. The bed was super comfortable. And Dee, the host, is awesome. She is knowledgable about the area, thoughtful, flexible, honest, and a great conversationalist. Would highly recommend this listing to any friends or family staying in SF!

  • Dee is the warmest host I have ever met. She is very kind and considering to us while we were staying there. She gave us a tour of every part of the sharing area and our own story. It made us feel like home.

Her house has style and history. The view from the room is the fantastic! Street parking is permit outside. We stayed there for three nights, every night we parked just few steps away from the front door.

Volveremos a vernos, puedes estar segura. Hasta siempre, desde España.

  • Dee's family home in San Francisco is the place to stay to get a nice feel for life in this great city. She offers spacious lodgings and Dee was gracious and helpful beyond what was necessary. It is an easy bus trip down to Golden Gate, from her home, to take in the park. Dee and Sammy, her quiet little pooch were like family and I very much appreciate all her help and a very comfortable place to lay my head. Blessings to you Dee. Rita

  • My stay in Dee's home was exactly what I needed. I was looking for a place to stay for a few weeks after moving out of my home. Her lovely house is located in a beautiful part of San Francisco with easy access to transportation (Muni/BART), food and shopping (West Portal Ave, Glen Park). It is a quiet home with very peaceful energy. The suite was the perfect amount of space and was very warm and inviting. Dee is an excellent host and makes you feel very welcome. Plus, her dog Sammy is just adorable. I highly recommend this rental and Dee as a host.
