Bohemian style colorful antique mix - room for up to four people, with brand-new fancy bathroom. King size bed, garden view, in a quiet neighborhood, but very central. 5 min walk to the U79, which goes straight to Messe (Düsseldorf trade fair).
After my two kids moved out, I started renting out their rooms to international students and researchers. Since this room's renovation is finished, we are offering this room for shorter stays.
The room has 26 square meters and the bathroom another 4.
It would be big enough for a couple or two friends. We can provide an airbed, if you are not okay with the king size bed (only 130cm width). Having received quite some requests from people traveling with kids, we decided to offer the room for up to four people now. You can chose to have the airbed in the room or to let two people sleep on the comfy convertible bed in the living-room. This convertible bed can only be booked with the room (just request this room for three or four persons then).
The room will be fully equipped. I am currently still making some changes in it. It might be, that I move some of the furniture from one corner into the other, or add some small furniture, lamps and paintings, but mainly, it will be the furniture you see on the pictures.
I'm living here with my boyfriend, who is from India and speaks Marathi, Hindi and English. I speak German, English, French, Dutch and Spanish. We usually communicate in English. We are both very active members of several international hospitality exchange websites and have travelers stay with us at least once a month, usually for a night or two. We also rent out another room to international students and researchers, currently to a German student.
Our house is very close to all kinds of public transport, metro station U79 and 903 and various bus lines, five minutes walk. The inner harbor, with its restaurants and pubs (also for dancing on weekends), starts at around 200m from the house. The city center and the central train station are at 1.5km distance, a fifteen minutes walk.
For food shopping, an Aldi and a Netto store are both around 400m away. A 24/7 gas-station is right next to the Netto market. A choice of Pizza and other food stalls can be found next to the subway station and next to the gas-station.
The street leads almost nowhere. Only people, who really want to come here, drive through this part of the street. The house is in the last row of houses. Behind it, there are no more houses. The backside of the house is simply green. You hear some noise from the highway A59 and the cargo trains from Duisport though.
We have a washing machine, a dishwasher, a microwave, wireless LAN at your disposal. There's a garden, a freshly renovated balcony and a very cozy living room and kitchen area (have a look at the pictures), the other people share a bathroom, which guests usually use too.
Ask for special things, like bicycles, tents, suitcases, backpacks or other things you might need during your stay here.
I also rent out my car via tamyca. So you could book it, if you need one.
Interaction with Guests
We do cook around five hot meals per week from fresh ingredients, a lot is vegetarian and our specialty is Indian cuisine, of course.
If you wish, you can cook in our kitchen too.
We can always provide breakfast for 5€per person. The other meals depend a bit on our schedules. Just ask us beforehand. We recommend the common breakfast with us to those who have a bit more time than the usual business traveller and trade fair visitor. Over a meal, we can provide you much more personalized tips and suggestions for discovery and excursions in the area.
We can show you around a bit and provide you some information and maps, so you can discover the region by yourself.
The neighborhood is calm and there are no houses behind ours. The inner harbor (Innenhafen) is just around the corner, 300 meters from the house.
Our house is very close to all kinds of public transport, metro station U79 and 903, five minutes walk, central train station, fifteen minutes walk. The highways A59 and A40 are right around the corner. The inner harbor is 300m away. The Duisburg city center at 1km. Both airports, Duesseldorf an Weeze are reachable by public transport. Duesseldorf in half an hour, Weeze in one hour.
By car, you have to just go around the block, if you want to reach the highways A59, A40 or A3, and you can soon reach the A2, A42 or the A57 from here.
Other Things to Note
The district Duissern (pronounced Düssern ) belongs to the municipality center and had in the 1970s about 20,000 inhabitants. End of 2011, 14,253 people lived in Duissern .
In Duissern the Duisburg Zoo is has been based since 1934, which is famous in particular for its dolphin show, the fresh water dolphins and koalas. Here are the “Kaiserberg” (the emperror’s mountain), the only significant elevation of the city, with the best view via Mülheim an der Ruhr and Oberhausen, with one of the city’s best residential areas and the eponymous interchange Kaiser mountain, where the highways A3 and Ruhrschnellweg A40 cross.
In Duissern there is also the main fire station with most vehicles in Duisburg.
Duissern is immediately adjacent to the main railway station, the inner harbor and the Duisburg campus of the University of Duisburg -Essen. The district runs through a green belt which extends from Goerdeler park at the main station over the Königsberger Allee to the Schweizer Straße at the foot of the Kaiserberg. There is also the 1890 scale, two -acre botanical garden with native plants, but also sequoias, gingko or araucaria. The northernmost part of the Duisburg City Forest is also situated in Duissern. This is reflected in the name "Kingdom Duissern".
We never actually had problems with short- term guests . But when guests stay longer and they interprete our House Rules in their own way , we are getting a bit annoyed at times. So here come some instructions how to avoid this kind of issues :
My boyfriend smokes outside only . Since he does so, it is only logical, that you should follow the same rule. Please do not start questioning this rule after your arrival, suggesting to smoke at the bathroom window.
Feel free to use all our stuff, as long as it remains within our reach . If in doubt, please ask us . Two examples : If you would like to iron some clothes, you can of course use our iron and ironing board. Please do that either in the kitchen or in the living room . If it has to be in your room , then do not keep it hostage for days or even weeks. We want to iron sometimes too and then don’t want to wait until you come and unlock your room. We have some good newspapers by subscription. Of course you are allowed to read them. Just don’t take them to your room and hoard them there. We do not read all the newspapers immediately all the time . If "die Zeit " is three days old, that does not mean that we no longer want it.
During the heating season, we keep all doors to the stairwell closed.
We stayed at Petra's for 2 nights. It was our first Airbnb experience and it was a really good one. The room was very nice. It was clean and it was great that you have your own bathroom. Petra was very helpful and told us a lot about what we could do in Duisburg. Thanks a lot, Petra! We would really recommend this room.
Don't spend time looking for another - maby even better place - this is the perfect place to stay!

Een no-nonsens onthaal en communicatie zoals we het graag hebben om ons meteen thuis te voelen.
I was born and raised in Duisburg and am still living here with my boyfriend, who is from India. We are both pretty much into all sorts of creative things around the house, like cooking and crafting. You will notice that, if not from the pictures, then once you enter our house. We met through a hospitality exchange website and are very much into everything that comes with them, like surfing couches while traveling, hosting strangers, hosting openly promoted dinners, parties and house concerts, which we have been doing for the past three years. When requesting our place, ask for the upcoming concerts with traveling independent musicians.
