  • such a nice place to say, perfect location, quiet, and a few steps from town. Our room very comfortable and spacious, and it's an easy place to feel at home quickly. Paul, our host here, was knowledgeable about the local area, helpful, and good company. skylight villa ~ highly recommended

  • Very nice property. Short but sweet stay. Very close to the town centre . Paul was very helpful and ensured we knew where to go and what to do. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

  • Paul's home was very interesting, a historic house renovated with eco friendly features. Very nice guest information book. Paul generously loaned us two bikes for the day. Nice views of the city from the porch.

  • Very good to meet Paul who is a good host and conversationalist.

The house is in a prime position in Nelson which itself is compact and wonderfully chilled!

We were able to cook and come and go as we needed - thanks Paul - it made for a very pleasant 2 days. We regret not being able to stay longer. Our room was spacious with lots of storage and a great shower. Would recommend staying here.

  • Paul’s Skylight Villa is one of the best places we’ve stayed – and for the cost, a very good deal. It’s minimally decorated so the reason is not evident in the photos. It was all in the details. The bedroom had 2 walk-in closets and a small chest of drawers allowing us to unpack, a rarity in places we’ve stayed. A rheostat, allowed us to brighten or dim as needed, controlled the lighting. The bathroom had a powerful heater and decent lighting. The room had a desk and chair - as well as an easy chair for reading.

Paul was generous in allowing us to use the kitchen. Cupboard and refrigerator space were provided. We cooked at the house most days and dined on the back porch. We did our laundry at the house, a big convenience.

The wifi was strong though it did need to be reset many days, but that was just a quick flip of a switch, and it was working.

Would we stay there again? We definitely would, but we’d talk to Paul first and be sure our need for quiet worked with his schedule. During our stay there was an unexpected family visit and party that kept us up late one night, but that was not repeated.

  • A great place with a great host! We particularly enjoyed the generous gift of bicycles to explore the area during our stay. The living space is spacious and comfortable (awesome walk in his and hers wardrobes with luggage racks - what luxury) and full of lovely features and details. Paul's a great host and Nelson is a lovely town.

  • We had 3 great nights in the skylight villa. The room is spacious, airy, very clean and has a comfortable bed. There are a microwave and kettle and you have direct access to your own bathroom. A five min walk brings you to the center of Nelson. The villa itself is beautiful, Paul is a very nice and a friendly host.

  • We are 60-something Americans and relied primarily on walking to get around on our five-day stay in Nelson. The room in Paul's villa met our needs perfectly. It is just off the end of historic South Street and very accessible to downtown, restaurants, and other attractions. Paul offered bikes for our use, but we didn't need them. The room is spacious and we had access to the kitchen and dining area and decks with views. The house itself is an attraction, as Paul has renovated a historic home with several energy-conserving features. Paul put out cereal and fruit for breakfast each morning. Beyond the call of duty he even picked us up at the airport on our arrival. He has prepared a useful notebook with maps and other information on things to do and see in the Nelson area. Paul was an excellent host, going out of his way to accommodate our needs.

I'm a 50 something ex-pat (USA) living here in New Zealand for the last 20 years. The geology here in NZ shares many similarities with California so I feel right at home with the rocks, dirt and earthquakes. Nelson has some of the best weather in the country (also an appeal) and great clouds. As a "world citizen" I find travel (and travelers) that something special about sharing this planet. I speak some Spanish and a little French. Also Australian...
