The studio, in its traditional walled garden, is ideal for 2 guests, and in a unique quiet location right in the heart of Bodrum's old town, close to restaurants, bars, boutiques, markets, and the hustle and bustle of old Bodrum.
This traditional Greek stone house is in the very heart of Bodrum's old town. The main house and studio apartment guest room have been renovated by us, a young British-Turkish family. The location is perfect for all entertainment and amenities; literally 2 minutes walk from the sea and beach, and lets you get a taste of real laid back Bodrum life in a pretty and friendly old neighbourhood full of character and atmosphere. Our studio is a great place to base yourself while spending the days exploring Bodrum and the Bodrum peninsula.
The house, in its traditional walled garden, is quiet considering its proximity to restaurants, bars, boutiques, local market & shops, and the hustle and bustle of the old town. There are often art exhibitions in the streets neighbouring the house, as well as a wine house, spanish restaurant, and other traditional Turkish restaurants such as the atmospheric local fish market and cafes within minutes walk. Just two streets back from the beach front, amongst narrow streets of bourganvillea-covered white -washed stone houses, our studio room is ideal for 1 or 2 people.
The landmark Bodrum Castle of the Knights of St John and its award winning Museum of Underwater Archaeology in the harbour are a 5 minute walk. The Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is also very close by. The world class Milta Yacht Marina with designer shops, yacht club, cafes and live music is a 15 minute walk along the harbour at the opposite end of the bay of Bodrum. All local amenities such as groceries, hairdresser, hamam, pharmacy, fish market, fresh fruit and veg stalls, ATMs, & post office are within a 10 minute walk from the house. The twice weekly bazaar is held in the same location as the bus station and a 5 minute walk away.
The bus station connecting Bodrum with the airport & the peninsula's other towns, villages and beaches is 5 minutes walk away. Mini buses (dolmus) depart to all locations across the peninsula very regularly. Throughout the summer the last dolmus returns in the early hours of the morning. National coach services operating from here also connect Bodrum with Turkey's major cities including Istanbul. There are regular ferries connecting Bodrum with Datca and the Greek Islands of Rhodes and Kos that depart from the harbour. Quite a few of our guests come from holidaying in Kos to stay over while they explore Bodrum for a couple of days. Please enquire for up-to-date ferry times. Car and motor bike/ moped hire is available and most providers require a credit card deposit.
If we can make organising your trip easier we will. If you have any special interests or specific things that you want to do whilst in Bodrum, we will do our best to give you information on where and when things take place, and offer our recommendations.
**For getting to the house on your arrival please keep the directions and map that you see in your reservation confirmation details at hand when you travel!
**Our studio is suitable for maximum 2 people. The rate changes depending on whether there are 1 or 2 guests staying.
Guests share the patio garden with the main house, where our family live (you can get a look at the main house in the photos). The studio itself is a mini bungalow detached from the main house. Inside it is simple, clean, and furnished with a comfortable divan that converts into a large king size bed. There is A/C, hot water and a small kitchen area with sink, mini fridge and kettle. There is NO stove or oven. The small private shower/ WC 'wet room' adjoins the main room.
Interaction with Guests
Most of the time we are here to welcome our guests, give keys and advice and recommendations on what to do and where to go. On the rare occasion that we cannot be here to let you in, a friend will be here to meet you.
Other Things to Note
The studio apartment advertised is located in the garden of our home. We are a young British-Turkish family living full time in Bodrum, working and schooling here. Jess works from home freelance and Can is a yacht skipper and qualified rope access technician. We have 2 children aged 7 and 2 yrs. The guest studio is close to the main house but is a separate/ detached space. If you are wanting to visit Bodrum, stay in a relaxed, homely atmosphere, get to know the town from the inside, and have the chance to experience something other than a hotel, villa, or hostel, our studio is ideal.
We appreciate guests respecting the following…
- Our guests do not bring visitors onto the property.
- Please, no smoking inside the studio apartment.
- Please remember to turn off the air conditioning when you are not in your room.
- Please use the water heater as and when you need it, not leaving it on all the time. It heats the water quickly and should not be left on for long periods of time.
- Please do not take the bath towels we provide to the beach or pool.
- We also ask that you please have your parties while you're out. There are loads of fun places to go- while our studio is a great place to come back to...!
I am slightly loathe (for completely selfish reasons) to leave a glowing report on Jess and Can's studio because then it may be even harder for me to get a reservation here again due to its continuing popularity!
I came to Bodrum to buy a boat and with some great email advice and support from Jess and her husband Can prior to me arriving in Bodrum that appears to be precisely what is happening! I hope to complete the purchase of a 56' steel sloop in the next few week.
Jess and Can have a young family and it was nice for me to hear the family chatter (and couple of sweet pet cats) next to the studio. The experience reminded me nicely of when my kids were that age many moons ago.
The house is situated in the heart of town nearby some great inexpensive restaurants such as Arka which makes GREAT pizzas and pasta - all made from the freshest ingredients. The wine is inexpensive and delicious - try Angora - you can't go wrong. Jess recommended the restaurant to me and it was an excellent recommendation. You might want to try Kalamares, a Turkish seafood restaurant situated in a charming old Greek stone house, also nearby which I thought was very good too but a little bit more pricey than Arka.
I digress.. the studio is simply furnished with everything you could need for an extended stay including a/c, heating and a small fridge. I found the large bed comfortable and there is a wooden table which was useful for me to do my 'homework' on the boats that I was viewing. Their wifi works really well and never dropped out once which makes a pleasant change from own wifi at home!
If you go to Bodrum then you should stay here. It's not flash but the price is keen and you won't be disappointed by the welcoming hospitality of Jess and Can and her lovely kids.
My husband and I stayed for three nights at Jess's place last week. We had been in Bodrum (at a hotel) for a work related conference and wanted to extend our stay a few days in order to enjoy Bodrum. Jess's place is absolutely perfect for the budget conscious traveler/couple. The interior of the cottage is as described: small but quaint and has everything you will need to relax and have a good night sleep after a long day of sightseeing. This listing has an added benefit that you often don't find in this price bracket (in Bodrum or elsewhere): the guest cottage is within the walled house-compound, but it is detached from the family's home by a covered walkway. It's a great setup because it allows you to interact with Jess and the family as desired, but also allows a bit of privacy when you're ready for that too. Not much can be said about Jess and her family that's hasn't been said ten times in other reviews. Jess herself is very kind and relaxed. She has a welcoming air that will set you at ease. We met her husband only very briefly, but you could tell they were a solid team. The two kids are funny and sweet (I was generously allowed to pet Louie the kitten more than once). This is a family of mixed English-Turkish heritage and it was a pleasure to meet them and have a short but sweet glimpse at their lives. The family reminded me of how interconnted we all are and how most of us want the same things from life--a happy family and fulfilling life with a dash of adventure. If we are ever in Bodrum again I will check this listing for availability and cross my fingers.
Jess's garden studio in Bodrum is a comfortable home base just 2 blocks from the beach near the center of Bodrum's eastern crescent. Jess and family live in the traditional whitewashed house in front and rent their cottage, which is accessible through a (locked) gated patio. It's clean and well-appointed, and Jess started us off with water, coffee, milk and sugar.
Jess was immensely helpful in recommending places to eat, pointing us toward shops, etc. Their two little girls are adorable, and their kitten was a hoot.
We very much enjoyed our time here and don't hesitate to recommend staying with Jess and family when visiting Bodrum!
I will Definitely come to stay again at Jess', her place is has discribed and we were pleased with everything.
I would recommend Jess' place because it is near the main shops and beach.
Jess was a wonderful host. The Garden Studio is a charming place to stay while in Bodrum. Close to the beach, nice restaurants and shops near by without the hustle and bustle of of tours. A peaceful and idyllic place to stay, I will hopefully have the chance of coming again.
Lovely place in a great location. Convenient to old town and good tips for the area.
We loved our stay at Jesse's little stone house. It is perfectly located: right in the centre of Bodrum but still very quiet. The studio has everything which is needed. Jess is incredibly nice and very helpful, so we hope that we will come back some day.
I am UK born and grew up in and around London. I have been in Turkey for 13 years and live with my husband who is a captain and rope access technician. I work from home as a freelance writer. We have 2 children. We love living in the heart of Bodrum's old town in one of the town's old houses. We love the sea and are lucky to be just a few minutes walk from the beach.
The atmosphere in our home is laid back and informal, while we are also pretty busy working and being parents. For us it's a pleasure to meet people from all over the world and share our little piece of Bodrum with them. As hosts, we are happy to recommend places to go and things to do in Bodrum.
