Sofia and Luis are a charming couple who made me feel very welcome and helped me with the practical details of getting around town. This was particularly useful as I was traveling solo. While they were both busy they took an interest in my stay in Mexico and were on call if ever I needed anything. Their communication was very clear and there were no misunderstandings.
They are a down to earth couple whose warmth invited me back home to my heart at the end of my Mexican adventure. Their apartment offers all your basic needs and is good value... and the bed (and room) is comfortable and clean. It gave me an insight into what it might be like for me if I moved to Mexico. Their animals were equally welcoming, which is just what I was looking for. The ginger Mo Mo (not sure how you spell) was a character indeed... and is certainly testing the older residents. I look forward to meeting Sofia and Luis again (and the soon to arrive Julia!)... whether it is in Mexico or Australia.
The area of Coyoacan is most charming. Frida Kahlo's house / museum was the main reason for my choice and I was not dissapointed. The streets are sweet, safe, cultured and colourful. The cafe's and restaurants I visited all served great food and attitudes. The Mexican heart is not one to hold back. People were kind and understanding of the Australian who could not speak spanish and I even met two lovely sisters having lunch one day. Spending just 4 days in Mexico City, I chose to spend all except 1 day in Coyoacan. That 1 day was spent at the Anthropology Museum... even though that was fantabulous... I could easily have spent that day wandering the streets of Coyoacan.
I am left with a very romatic feeling about Coyoacan and I will do everything I can to get back to this charming place and her people. A thouroughly enjoyable trip. Overall 5/5 for Sofia, Luis, their animals and the delightful Coyoacan.
Our stay in coyoacan was awesome, and the room at Sofia and Luis' was comfortable. The animals were a fun treat to come back to each night, as their cat, Momo, esta muy loco but in a good way. We were given some recommendations in the area that were tasty, but we spent the majority of our 5 days on foot all around the city, so this was more or less just a sleeping room and home base in the best neighborhood.
The chocolate de amaranto at la casa del pan was awesome, as well as the food there (and I say that as a carnivore at a vegetarian restaurant). If you like coffee, there are many artisan cafés nearby but our favorite was Avellanada.
Sofia was super nice and very accommodating, we didn't have a chance to meet Luis but their home is lovely. The room was large and we felt very welcome! It's a short walk to the center of Coyoacan which is a lovely and quieter neighborhood, but a bit harder to get to other parts of the city. Cabs are cheap though and the subway is accessible if you don't mind a bit of a walk. All in all, I would recommend!
Sofia and Luiz are attentive hosts and creative, delightful people. Their apartment is an easy 10-15 minute walk from a Metro stop that just 10 minutes from D.F.'s Zocalo. It is in Coyoacan - San Angel, an historical, pretty area great for walking, dining, museums, and people watching.
The apartment, room, bed and bath all are simple but comfortable. A dog, three cats, a man, a woman, and, soon, a baby, will all line up to greet you in a very friendly way.
Sofia and Luis made us feel very welcome and were the perfect hosts! They gave us recommendations for great places to eat and drink too.
The place looked exactly as it did in the photos and was very charming. The pets were adorable too! Coyoacan is a great area of Mexico city, safe and vibrant and interesting. We wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Very nice zone and the most friendly people you'll ever meet
