Egyptologist & Tour Guide .
My husband and I are American and the only Americans we saw in Egypt. We felt perfectly safe in Shaheen's apartment There was absolutely no violence and nothing going on. There'(email hidden) guard at the door. The view was amazing We never saw Shaheen, but we're taken very good care of by our tour guide engineer, Mohamed Fawzy highly recommend him. He orchestrated our itinerary, Mohamed Ramadan Elgebry was our awesome tour guide and Tamir was an unbelievably skilled driver. Shaheen's apartment was close to everything (in Egypt terms) because of the traffic, it takes an hour to get from Cairo to Giza. Being so close to all the pyramids meant less time traveling We were also able to go to a place and watch papyrus paper made, got our own kartouche made, got Egyptian spices, watched how perfume bottles were made with blown glass, got pure Egyptian oils, and went to Luxor where Mohamed Fawzy has a beautiful place. Again, there is nothing going on. The pyramids and restaurants are empty. Where it usually takes an hour to get into a tomb, we walked right in. Go now before the crowds come. The Egyptian people are even more amazing then the pyramids. We had this best trip ever!
The apartment is very conveniently located in Giza with an awesome view of the Sphinx and the Pyramids as mentioned in the pictures. Our flight arrival was late in the night. After getting visas, baggage and a cell phone we arrived almost in the middle of the night. Mohamed had arranged someone to constantly stay in touch with me to give the apartment key, and help me with the luggage and had chilled water & juices.
The apartment is a 2 bed/2 bath very spacious and modern with beautiful stone flooring. It has well functioning Air Conditioners in the living room and both bedrooms. Fully furnished and very clean. Both bathroom have tubs, hot water geyser with 24/7 water and electricity connection. The location is obviously away from the city which is very nice. Even though the protests happening in the downtown Cairo we (tourists) are still able to go out watch light and sound shows at Giza and dine at KFC & Pizza hut which are walking distance from the apartment. The apartment building has a security guard on-duty 24/7. I feel very safe and comfortable. Other residents in the neighboring apartments in the building are very quiet, polite and respectful. Huge balcony with the view of Pyramids.
After exchanging information found out that the property is owned by Shaheen Elsaraway and Mohamed Fawzy maintains and manages the booking and communicating with the guests.
I liked the place so much, the hospitality of the host that I decided I'll stay at the same place after my Luxor - Aswan Nile river cruise. Even though protests are going on in downtown Cairo, Giza is so peaceful, away from the all the action and life very normal.
A very nice and clean restaurant Alaa El-Din Cafe & restaurant right on the ground/first floor of the apartment complex with a great menu of Egyptian and Western cuisines. Ideal for a nice quite dinner after a long day of sightseeing and being out in the sun.
All in all our stay at Shaheen's apartment was/is very comfortable, host Mohamed and his assistants stay in-touch & keep you posted, enjoyed hospitality. I definitely recommend this place.
Best of all the view of the Pyramids with light show every hour int he night - Priceless!
Shaheen was not the person who contacted us based on our booking, but we were OK with that. We were contacted by Mohammed Fawzy and he (email hidden)' per say for our visit. I find it difficult to leave a review without commenting on Cairo as a destination. From an Australia perspective, we were continually on guard as to who to talk to and who is trustworthy, as the only things that seems to matter is how much cash you have to give. There is a feeling of continual expectations. There were very few places we visited that did not have a cost attached to them. All I can suggest is be very organised with money. If you are not used to asking questions about the specifics about how much something will cost, you will end up going to a place only to realise it is going to cost you (for example) $US300 for a horse ride to the pyramids. Also, taking a 'gift' sometimes has expectations attached and that may include being hassled. For me to rate the trip highly would have meant any tour guide would shield foreigners like us from that, or at least give us a better education.
Also realise that Egypt is in transition at the moment. There's just been a revolution, and the country and its population is both hurting and trying to recover. If you take that into consideration, you'll understand why you should expect things you wouldn't normally expect.
The Place: Not 5 star, but I don't think you will find that in Giza. there were enough amenities do look after any westerner. In saying that, there are not many I would ever give full marks to. The balcony view though was amazing. Pictures off this site are spot on, in that from the balcony had the Spinx and the 3 large pyramids in view.
Our tour guide was reliable in every way, and we felt he and Mohammed Fawzy cared that our stay was enjoyable.
