  • Three of us stayed in Barbara's Casa Solana for 12 nights over the Christmas and New Year's holidays. We could not have asked for a better place to stay in Oaxaca on our budget. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, and very clean. The place has new appliances and the beds and bedding are very comfortable. There is tons of storage space. The wireless internet worked great.

The location is to die for, right in the heart of Oaxaca's central area, surrounded by restaurants, shops, museums, and historic buildings. It's on a beautiful side street off the main pedestrian hub of the city, and just steps to the Santo Domingo church and cultural center and a short walk to the Zocalo. There are multiple conveniences nearby, including pharmacy, bakery, laundromat, and banks.

We should note that there is a restaurant/bar with live music next door and a vibrant restaurant downstairs, so like any place in the Oaxaca's center, it's pretty noisy until late at night. You can hear Santo Domingo's bells in the morning, and dogs barking in an adjacent apartment. The noise didn't bother us, as we were excited to be in the heart of things, but we thought the info might be helpful to future guests.

Barbara was a gracious host. She went out of her way to welcome us and make sure we had everything we needed, including a first meal when we arrived late at night. She was very communicative and helpful during the booking process and throughout our stay. We would stay in Casa Solana again (hopefully soon!) and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you, Barbara!

  • We stayed at Casa Solana for Dia de los Muetos and had the most wonderful time. Barbra was there to welcome us on arrival and was extremely helpful with everything we needed to know.
The location was walking distance to the Centro and to an array of fantastic eateries and galleries. All in all it was a pleasure to stay there.
    We will be back!

  • Barbara is a warm and caring host and this one or two bedroom unit (depends on whether you rent both bedrooms) is very comfortable, roomy and clean. It is located in the very heart of historical Oaxaca (half a block from the Santo Domingo Church).
There is one issue that could affect some renters: this unit shares the building with a restaurant (its a fine restaurant). There is some late evening noise and on Saturday night this went quite late (there was a birthday party for one of the staff, we were told). Some visitors may want to use earplugs. Other than that, a very pleasant place to stay in Oaxaca.

  • Location location location.! We had a fabulous time staying at Barbara's apt . It is so centrally located in a beautiful part of Oaxaca . The apartment itself is wonderful especially for a family . There were four of us . Two adults and two children . Elissa Barbara's daughter was so helpful and welcoming when we arrived even at 8 am in the morning . Would definitely return here. Thank you Barbara and Elissa

35 years an ex-pat, I love living in my adoptive city and sharing it with others. I retired from teaching ESL at the beginning of the century, and family, ceramics, Bridge and tending our rental properties all keep me busy. I enjoy good literature, container gardening (especially orchids), and messing around on the computer. I love animals, especially cats and boxers ( the canine kind). My goal as a landlady, is to be accommodating with my guests' special requests, to answer questions and to find information if I don't have it at hand. I'm fluent in English and Spanish.
