We loved our stay at Mary's! It was spacious with a separate living room, full kitchen, full sized bathroom, a master bedroom with a comfortable king sized bed and lots of shelves and closets. It's decorated in Hawaiian style so you really feel like you are in Hawaii! Mary has thoughtfully provided beach towels, chairs, umbrella and ice chest. The beach is only a short walk away. We loved sitting outside looking at Mary's lovely garden. We would stay again!
We stayed for four nights and very much enjoyed the proximity to fantastic white sand beach as well as the spacious apartment. Terrace and interior of the home were beautiful! Communication with Mary was easy, so I would definitely recommend this place for a relaxing time on Big Island's west coast.
The kitchen equipment was a bit dirty, but still fulfilled our needs.
The apartment was beautiful, just like in the pictures. : ) Quiet. Easy location. The place was very clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Mary introduced us to the place and was available if we needed anything, but otherwise we didn't see her. There is laundry, which was nice. I would like to stay there again on my next visit to the Big Island.
Mary was away but Will was there when we arrived. This had been pre arranged so we were aware of the situation beforehand. The unit was exactly as described in the listing - clean and homey. Even though there was no air conditioning the fans kept the air moving and it was comfortable to sleep. We very much enjoyed the back deck - ate dinner out there in the evenings. No flying insects to bother you!!! Beach just down the street which was great for early morning walks and talks with other visitors. We should have paid more attention to the articles Mary had available for rent during our stay - hard to plan spur of the moment if the host is away when you think you want to use something. In our opinion a car is a must - this is a huge island with lots to explore. Also recommend if flying out on the late night flight to book the unit for an extra day. When someone new coming in the day you are leaving late check out not an option. Also good idea to have snorkel gear and water shoes in the car at all times for those spur of the moment snorkeling opportunities you will find when exploring the island. The manta ray swim is a must - fantastic. There are a number of tour companies who put this on. Over all great experience.
We had a wonderful time, stayed 6 nights. The place was as decribed, very private yet close to everything. It had all the essentials and was well kept. Mary was availabe if needed (She lives above appartment), yet left you to your selves for a lovely private vacation. I recommend this place as a wonderful get away. It was very nice having a parking place just a few feet from the front door. While public transportation is very close by, if you want to explore the island a car is almost a must in my opinion. The kitchen is small compared to home, but everything you need... most the time, for dinner, we went out for local food, and brought home take out sushi. After all, we did not go to hawaii to stay at home and prepare big meals

About the Host, Mary
I have lived on the beautiful Kona coast on the Big Island of Hawaii for over twenty-five years. For twenty years I lived on a coffee farm in rural Honaunau on the lush slopes of Mauna Loa and produced delicious, world class Kona coffee. I have worked as an educator both in the USA and abroad and love to travel and meet new people from different cultures. I am co-owner of an import business in Kailua-Kona which features furniture, handicrafts, and decorator items from my travels to China, India, Bali, Thailand, and other parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. For the past five years I have lived near the ocean by Magic Sands Beach. I have loved the ocean and water sports since I was a small child.
