Bruthen is a gorgeous little country village on the Great Alpine Road in East Gippsland. It is right on the East Gippsland Rail Trail and just 15 minutes drive from the Gippsland Lakes. It makes a great stop off spot between Melbourne and the NSW coast, or on the way to Mt Hotham ski resorts. The cottage is spacious and freshly renovated with a relaxed feel. It has a large rambling old fashioned garden. We welcome kids and well behaved pets.

This is the first stop of my tender Australian self-driving tour. The landlord is very good. We have arrived at night for some reason. The landlord sent me an e-mail explaining the use of the house in great detail and what we needed. Where can I buy food? We are happy to stay her…

Liz was extremely helpful and gave us great tips about the East Gippsland Rail Trail. The cottage was very comfortable and a fantastic location for a stop along the trail!

I would expect that the house is much cleaner and neater than it was especially the backyard. The access to the house were in really bad condition. I could not send my children in backyard without fearing them being hurt.

Response from Liz:
Hi Ranjeet Thanks for your review, and for your suggestions for areas we need to improve on: they have not been mentioned by other families who have stayed at the cottage. We will take an extra look around the yard to see if there are things we can improve. As you noted, the garden ( which is nearly 100 years old) is very dusty at the moment: with the region experiencing its driest years in memory it is unfortunately very hard to avoid having a dusty garden. We look forward to some rain to make everything green and fresh again.

This is a lovely place! Alas we had to leave early the next morning to avoid the heat (you know, why not cycle the Rail Trail at the height of summer) which was a shame as we could have lingered in Bruthen and at the house! So for anyone lucky enough stay longer, enjoy! I envy y…

My family and I had a very enjoyable stay at Liz’s place. It was well-equipped, and a short walk to the Bruthen shops. It was also really handy to be able to rent bikes from Liz - we loved biking the rail trail, and the bikes were great too! I’d definitely recommend the place to …

Me and 5 mates on a motorcycle trip had an overnight stop on our way to Phillip Island and Bruthen Cottage was definitely a nice and cosy place to stay. It was so quiet and had plenty of room for us all and excellent parking out front. It was exactly what we needed to just rest a…
