Beautiful large home with ocean views & trade winds. Walk to the ocean, only a few blocks away. Our house is in a beautiful area of "old Hawai'i" where it rains mostly at night on early morning. Open floor plan with high ceilings. Huge dining room and hardwood table, large couch in living room. Wifi/high speed internet. TV/streaming and Blu-ray options. Enjoy your coffee on the lanai with outdoor table & seating for 6.

The space
Huge by local standards. One of the largest rentals in the normal price range Wide open space with laminate “hardwood” floors. Modern kitchen with most of the tools you will need means you can cook without any problems, fully stocked with cooking and baking implements, toaster, mixer, waffle iron, blender, rice cooker, coffee maker, a few kinds of baking sheets (electric oven and stove). Lots of spices (some ours, some left by guests. If you use it up, please replace it). The dinner room table has an 8 foot hardwood table with regular seating for 6 (but can fit 4 more with moving around some chairs). Both common spaces also have flatscreen tv's and entertainment systems. (4 LCD TV systems in all) Living room has an Apple TV. There is a desk with a printer for a place for work. The living room has a large L shaped couch and big "papasan" chair. The island in the kitchen has two additional chairs to use anywhere needed. The downstairs common room has large TV, Ruko for streaming and Blu-ray also video game type seats, great if traveling with kids. The upstairs lānai has a large outdoor table with 6 chairs and seat hammock. There is a small koi pond with waterfall and meditation/reading space in the backyard with stone walls supporting flowers, banana trees and some spices. The large front lawn is flat with a few small terraces along the edges are hibiscus, papaya, date palms, flowering heliconia, bird of paradise, bananas, puakenikeni's (like a jasmine tree), young starfruit, orange, lemonade lime trees; it they are ripe, please help yourself to the fruit. The bedrooms: Master upstairs has french doors to the lanai with a 'tempurpedic' king sized bed, LCD TV with streaming apps and small walk-in closet. Downstairs has 3 bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed and the largest with a bunkbed that's full sized beds and en-suite bathroom of it's own. Small details subject to change without notice as we upgrade the space.

Guest access
Aloha, this is a vacation rental for the entire space. Access is though the front door on the downstairs lānai. The front door is locked with a key code, so you won't have to worry about finding, losing, replacing - even carrying around a key. Guests have access to the entire house except the garage which is locked. We do ask that you respect all items found in the house regardless if obvious personal possessions of the owners to communal items for use, many guest buy inexpensive things for their trip and leave them (spices and coolers come to mind). If you use it up (spices, ect) or break it; please replace it or report it... (we understand accidents happen and your rental booking comes with insurance so please report it) Always be respectful. Mahalo.

Other things to note
This is a great quiet neighborhood near the ocean in a beatiful out of the way area of east Hawai'i. Often referred to as "old Hawai'i" it's generally noted that in the days of the old kingdoms this area was Kapu and for the royal family to vacation in. This is the sunny coast of east Hawai'i below the rain band with most of the rain falling at night.

* There are multiple parks and ocean cliffs nearby, 3 blocks and maybe a 5 minute walk to the ocean with swimming spots littering the coast south (currently blocked off by recent lava flow). You can still drive to the ancient Mango forest preserve (many of the trees are over 200 years old) and “mermaid ponds”.

* Please do not damage/pick/rip/or shake (yes someone did that) flowers or fruit on our property. If done incorrectly the plant may die.

* To keeps the tropical bugs at bay please DO NOT leave behind any open packages of foods, the best storage is in the refrigerator or airtight containers. Please make sure to throw out all open and unused food. There are food banks in Pahoa and Hilo and they may be able to take food if you would like to donate it. We treat for cockroaches, ants and other pests. The small lights in the living room have a setting to attract “blister bugs” these bugs have an acid like blood, if squashed they will burn and there is no other way to get rid of them.

* There are information sheets on the refrigerator for many household things. Internet, WiFi. For those looking to get work done, our internet speed is 300 download and 100 upload.

* Trash day is Wednesday morning. Trash cans need to be brought down to the street, then back up after they pick it up.

* Please be respectful, this is our home. But also we know accidents happen and AirBnB insurance covers most things. That insurance is included from AirBnB in your rate. Please report any breakage. For example.... it was obvious a child of a guest ran into and through the screen door damaging it beyond use. It was not reported to us by the party responsible and by the time we found out there was no way for us to know which guests were responsible or file a claim. These things add up. Our rates are low for the size house we offer but while some damage is expected if things like that continue we will have to raise our rates.

Great quiet neighborhood only a three blocks from the ocean. Quiet streets and nights mean it's a great place to relax with wonderful after breakfast or dinner walks. The rising sun can be a moving sight from the beach parks or even having Kona coffee from the lanai. During winter months, Humpback whales can be seen and heard from the lānai (I didn't believe it either when I was told that you could hear them at night) and all along the ocean. We kindly request guests keep the volume low after 9/10pm as it is very quiet and sound carries very well. AT&T voice calls are iffy, texting works fine in the living room while Verizon works great everywhere.
