Sandra and Sean made our trip-it was our favorite place out of everywhere we stayed. Nowhere did we feel more welcome, or at home-it was if we were visiting old friends. The space is lovely with amazing views, Sean made the best breakfast and the horses and pups only added to the experience. Plus it's less than 1.5 hours to dublin. Amazing in every respect.
It was an absolute privilege to have met Sandra and Seán and to have spent time in their beautiful home. Sandra and Seán offer their guests that something special that you will never find in an hotel or normal B&B.
Our stay at Kilcarry Lodge was the highlight of our weekend trip. We were welcomed with open arms and everything was done to make us feel comfortable, relaxed and at home.
It felt as if we were visiting friends, so much so that when we arrived home our children said they felt like they had known Sandra and Seán a long time. Our 6 year son old said it felt like they had just been given another set of grandparents.
The food was gorgeous, the gardens are spectacular and nothing was too much trouble, our kids were in heaven with all the space. They relished the chance to collect fresh tomatoes from the garden, feed the horses and play with the gentle dogs. The dogs even showed us the way on a peaceful walk from Kilcarry Lodge to the river Slaney through country fields.
It was a real treat to have stayed in such a beautiful home filled with love and warmth.
We're already planning a return trip with hopes of paying a visit to the nearby Michelin star restaurant Sha Roe while we're there.
Thank you so much
We had a Super time at this place. It was a very Special experience for us. We arrived directly after arriving with the ferry.Sean had a wonderful soup for us! Thank you again ! Then we got tea and had a great talk . We did board games together and had a awesome time her. Sean looked really good after us. He is the " master of the breakfast" - thanks again Sean, you made our trip very special. The breakfast was very wonderful and we got even fresh pressed juice ...We would love to come again. Thank you for all directions and all your help and the beautiful " tour" through your wonderful garden! Hope to see again , kind regards, Kirsten!
From the minute we arrived, Sean looked after us so well - it felt like being 'home from home' ! Especially with the lovely dogs - Jack & Cassie. Nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were spotless. Sean both dropped us off at a local restaurant & arranged to collect us later. Back at the house he had lit the stove so that we could relax in comfort.
Sean is a very welcoming host - a quietly spoken, interesting and gentle man who obviously loves meeting people . Also have to mention the fantastic breakfast as Sean cooked us up a storm !! Really delicious & set us up for the day ahead !! Thank you Sean for your hospitality - sorry we didn't get to meet Sandra - hope she recovers well & quickly ! Ps you have no chance of getting a bad review in her absence !!
Kilcarry lodge is a beautiful lodge filled with love in every detail. I know it sounds cheesy, but this place is wonderful.
First the lodge - gorgeous, rustic, charming, and cozy even though it's large. The rooms are so spacious, clean, and have little amenities here and there that remind you that every effort was with love for this home. Sean and Sandra create an atmosphere where the guests can relax and feel at home.
Obviously the scenery is amazing or you wouldn't even be looking here. If you're thinking of visiting the countryside, this is definitely worth a stop. I'd recommend a minimum of two days to really get a feel for your surroundings.
I don't even want to write anymore about it, just go. You won't regret it.
Now the hosts - Sean and Sandra are wonderful interesting people. So caring, checking in on you to make sure you're comfortable.
Sean was kind enough to collect us from the bus station because we had no car. He even drove us to some sights for the cost of gas. Gas is so expensive, and Sean didn't even factor in any of his time. We are truly grateful.
The breakfasts were smashing! Delicious, filling, and fresh!
Thank you Sean and Sandra for opening your home and allowing people to experience life in the Irish countryside. It was an unforgettable experience.
Whilst Sandra was unavoidably absent, Sean's welcome surpassed our expectations. We were immediately made to feel at home, with a welcoming cup of coffee and some cake.
The house is in a wonderful location with magnificent views of the garden and the Blackstairs mountains and is adjacent to the quaint heritage village of Clonegal.
Our ensuite room was as good as a top class hotel, with great shower, luxurious towels and bed linen.
We were totally gobsmacked when Sean suggested that he drive us up to Mount Leinster and afterwards dropped us at the local restaurant which he had booked for us. Not only that, he returned after our meal to bring us back to the house.
We will definitely be back as this type of hospitality is worth experiencing again.
