Our stay with Sandra and Sean was one of the highlights of our time spent in Ireland. The room was pristine, the bed was very comfortable and the view from our room was spectacular. I can not say enough good things about this wonderful couple and how welcomed they made us feel. The breakfast Sandra made for us in the morning was delicious and included fresh squeezed orange juice. If we ever have the opportunity to visit the Emerald Isle again we will be sure to stay at the Kilcarry Lodge, only next time it will be longer!
Staying with Sandra and Sean was like staying with friends. We were warmly welcomed into their comfortable home, which is in a rural setting a few minutes drive from the small picturesque village of Clonegal.
The house is on a single level with easy access to all areas. Our bedroom and en-suite were spacious and fitted with every amenity one could need (even those you thought you could do without).
Breakfasts were generous and freshly prepared for our individual tastes.
Sandra and Sean were willing to do anything to make our stay pleasant, even providing transport to the local Sha-Roe Bistro which was excellent. Sharing time with them by the fire with their two dogs made made it a special experience.
Overall, this was our best B&B stop in our 4 weeks in Ireland and we would highly recommend it to any Aussies who would like to stay with a relaxed, friendly and well-informed couple.
It is really indescribable how amazing Sandra and Sean's property and hospitality really come together to make this an unforgettable stay. The location is very secluded, and beautiful. The house has a uniquely situated view from the back yard onto the mountains that is truly relaxing to enjoy. Sandra and Sean make you feel like you are visiting family, and really take hospitality to the next level - providing everything you might need for your stay, and a very delicious breakfast each morning. We brought our toddler who really loved the property, and enjoyed taking walks each morning with Sandra and Sean while we got a chance to enjoy our breakfast and the view from the kitchen table to the mountains. They provided a travel cot before we got there, and even purchased a new fireplace safety cover after we arrived when our little one got curious about the fire in order to keep him safe. Sandra and Sean also recommended, reserved, and drove us to a fantastic dinner at Sha-Roe Bistro - which is a Michelin rated restaurant less than 5 miles from their home. What a great setting, and home-base to enjoy true Irish living. We are already planning our next visit!
I stayed with Sean and Sandra because the location was convenient and the house looked lovely, but in future I would consider their home a holiday destination in itself. These are the warmest, most helpful hosts one could ever hope to meet. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with them and only wished it could have been longer. Their house is truly a gem. Sitting in their architecturally stunning kitchen, warmed by the wood-burning stove, gazing out at spectacular mountain views, and having delightful chats with Sean and Sandra is balm for the soul. And if you like delicious (I'm talking home-baking, homemade preserves, salmon... you get the picture) farmhouse breakfasts cooked with love, look no further. Any detail that could possibly enhance your stay has been thought of by Sandra: immaculate bedroom, fine linens, electric blanket, high-end bathroom supplies, and so on. And don't even get me started on the two adorable and impeccably behaved dogs. Best of all, Sean and Sandra will treat you as welcome friends. If you stay with them, you will be loathe to leave. Their house is only 50 miles from Dublin and is a quick and easy drive on the motorway. Carlow is lovely to explore—historical homes and gardens, quaint villages (Clonegal is just down the road), megalithic sites, interesting towns (Kilkenny especially), and that beautiful pastoral scenery for which Ireland is famous. Carlow gets more sun and less rain, too. I can't wait to return.
Two friends and I stayed with Sean and Sandra in their lovely home with stunning views and two beautiful dogs. Our ensuite rooms were very comfortable with lovely attention to detail, in particular the electric blankets.
Our hosts could not have been more welcoming, with delicious food, endless cups of tea and great conversation. They were very accommodating, serving breakfast at a time that suited us, providing rain gear for our walk, driving us to and from the wedding we were attending and even arranging the repair of our car with a local mechanic on New Year's Eve!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend their home to anyone visiting the area.
Our hosts Sandra and Sean made Dominic and I feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. Our experience of arriving at the beautiful surroundings of Kilcarry Lodge was a perfect antidote to a long journey from London. Our room was exceedingly comfortable, warm and cosy and we very much enjoyed learning about the area and relaxing in the main kitchen with Sandra and Sean. Kilcarry Lodge was without doubt the nicest accommodation we have ever stayed in, because of its comfort, the delicious home-cooked food, beautiful gardens, the extraordinary view towards the Blackstairs mountains, but most of all because of the hospitality of our hosts. They took every care to make sure we had a wonderful stay and we cannot wait to return. We really can't rate Kilcarry Lodge highly enough.
We had a really really pleasant stay there. Sandra and here husband are very hospitable and it felt like staying with the family. And their two dogs are so adorable. We are really thankful for all. It was the perfect start for our Wicklow way adventure.
