There are endless possiblities for rest and relaxation: excellent golf courses, salmon and trout fishing, horse riding, many scenic drives and , of course, the famous Wicklow Way Walk which is on our doorstep. Should you feel the need for complete rest you can spend the day in the garden or relaxing on a terrace or sitting by the fire.
There are many visitor attractions nearby such as Huntington Castle, Altamount Gardens, Newtonbarry House and gardens, Hardymount Gardens, Delta sensory gardens, and the Visual arts centre in Carlow.
For dining out one has a wide range of restaurants and hotels to choose from within a 10 minute drive, the nearest being the famous Sha-Roe Bistro in the village of Clonegal just two minutes away.
Should you prefer to eat here we can arrange to cook for you for at a reasonable cost.
In the evening I will babysit if you wish to go out, and Sean will happily drive you to and collect you from local restaurants and pubs all for free.
To make the most of your stay it is advisable to have a car as Kilkenny, Enniscorthy and Wexford town are closeby. Even Dublin is only over an hour away and we are within 30 minutes of the coast.

Guests can have use of kitchen if they wish.

Fantastic experience. My self and my wife stayed for one night and Sandra and her husband were wonderful hosts. The house is beautiful and we were really made to feel welcome.
We arrived in the afternoon and were immediately offered food before we headed out to a wedding we were attending. Sandra offered to pick us up when we were done but as my wife was driving we didn't need to bother them with this.
Breakfast was set for a time that suited us was great the next morning. I couldn't recommend this B&B more highly.
This house was just as beautiful as the stunning photos! We were amazed at the lovely attention to detail all over the house in the immaculate and beautiful bathrooms, bedrooms and great room. More importantly, we were made to feel so at home and welcomed that we never wanted to leave. We had delicious, plentiful food prepared for us, trips to the river, and lots of laughter together. We are already dreaming of our next stay!
P.S We also really enjoyed meeting the lovely neighbors!!!
My son Bart and me had a wonderful stay at the Kilcarry Lodge. The hospitality of Sean and Sandra is overwhelming and we just needed that after finishing the Wicklow Way. Good conversation, we learned a lot about Ireland. It was a pity Sean could not find his proper shoes for some real Irish dancing, but for the rest it was perfect. Wicklow Wayers, get yourself spoiled at this adress after the 130 kilometers! Nice shower, nice bed... Best place we have been!
Wonderful hosts, beautiful house, great food, great fun, amazing bedroom and en-suite shower and toilet facilities and at only €40+? Needless to say, Sandra and Sean's house is most highly recommended by (email hidden) been in a good few places over my travels and I would be used to paying double for this kind of quality accommodation.
Oh and if you like dogs, you'll love Jack the border collie and Cassie the springer spaniel. They're very gentle and affectionate animals.
Sandra and Sean were fantastic hosts. After arriving from Washington DC to Manchester and then flying into Dublin and renting a car, we were received to a most welcoming and wonderful respite. While visiting for a few days we were spoiled by the family’s hospitality! Our relaxation with them included amazingly savory meals, soft heated bedding (warmed towels as well as warmed plates at meals) and warm hearts! We walked their fantastic gardens and along the river at the base of their 99 acre homestead. Our evenings were filled with shared storytelling in the sitting room, alongside a toasty fire. They opened up their home to us as though we were family and it was so appreciated. Sandra and Sean were very knowledgeable about the area and were a plethora of information from sites to visit, to directions to new destinations. We would definitely visit them again!
We could not have had a more delightful stay. Sean and Sandra extended enormous Irish warmth to us on our first trip to Ireland.
The house is in the most glorious location, sitting in beautiful grounds and was extremely comfortable.
We will definitely be back, hopefully in the summer to see the garden in full bloom.
Thank you for making our short visit so welcoming!

This is the place to be! This is just like visiting a relative's house in Ireland! Sandra & Sean are great hosts - make you feel at home, in fact even more comfortable than home. My 9 year old nephew put it as "this is a great B&B "with friends"". The house is so lovely that you want to live there forever and you do not like any house you visit afterwards. Sandra & Sean literally spoiled us with great food on our arrival and then a great breakfast. They are beyond kind and helpful. The location is great stop among many touristic stops. I seriously recommend 2 nights here, 1 night would not be enough to enjoy the house, friendship, garden and surroundings. If I go to Ireland again, this will be the 2 nights stop and I will recommend everyone I know going to Ireland. THANK YOU!!!
P.S: I recommend bringing a small local specialty/small treat for Sandra & Sean just like you would do when visiting a friend - and certainly not because they ask for it - you will just very probably feel like giving a small present to them in return. I was really sorry not to have brought some Turkish delight or "evil eye" for the gorgeous house. :)
Dear Canan, thank you for your wonderful review. We also wished you could have stayed longer. We did miss you all when you left, especially the children, they were such fun and so happy. We wish you every happiness in the future and hope to see you all here again someday, Sandra and Sean
Best B&B in Ireland! This is the perfect place to stay if you're looking to be out of all the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to Sandra and Sean for hours around the fireplace -- it felt like you had visited your favorite family members because they were so incredibly welcoming! You can tell they definitely just love having company over, and their home is gorgeous (I fell in love with the built-in bookcase Sean made himself). If they keep treating all their B&B guests as they treated us, Sean will for sure have to come out of retirement because they'll be so busy with the B&B! Sean kindly took us down to the river at the end of their property, with their three lovely dogs Cassie, Jack, and McNab following along, where we saw a double rainbow -- we thought it had to be straight out of a movie! Sean was so kind to give us a tour of the nearby towns after making us a delicious and filling full Irish breakfast, and Sandra's potluck supper was superb! And the view from their kitchen is breathtaking; we completely wished we could've stayed at this B&B longer! Loved it, and we HIGHLY recommend it!
Sandra and Sean are the nicest people you can ever meet. I came to Ireland for one night only for a friends wedding. Not only did they welcome me warmly with delicious smoked salmon, wine and home-made bread, but they also offered to pick me up from the wedding reception party (irrespective of its 'middle of the night' ending), so I could enjoy it to the fullest and not be concerned about driving. Who does that?!?
The house and surrounds are stunning, the bed is super comfy, and I thank Sandra and Sean sincerely for their incredible hospitality, endless generosity and wonderful 'full Irish' breakfast, which was just the ticket after a big night of celebration. Having never been to Ireland before, I had heard of the Irish pride in hospitality, but never would have expected that Sandra and Sean would epitomise it so fully - it is indeed true. Thank you!
It was my parents’ first visit to Ireland and Sandra and Sean made the two of them fall in love with the green island. Where to begin if a stay was perfect? The communication before arriving was really pleasant and Sandra provided me with the exact coordinates to put into our navigation system. Thus, we didn’t have any problems finding their place. After a trip through the Wicklow Mountains their house is a very convenient stop on your inland way to Kilkenny, Kerry, Cork or just to explore beautiful County Carlow. The area is magnificent and Sandra’s estate was even more amazing than on the pictures provided. We were astonished how the owners combine their horticulture and garden landscaping skills to perfectionism. If you are a garden lover, consider a detour to enjoy their garden which is full of flowers, trees and an amazing view to the nearby mountains. Also, the peaceful riverbank is as nearby as an easy downhill hike.
Beside the outdoor amenities, the house also offers a very comfortable stay. Upon our arrival a fire was lit to welcome us and we were offered tea. As we hadn’t had dinner yet, we followed Sean’s recommendation to drive to a nearby restaurant (10min drive, Bunclody). As a well-prepared host he had already researched recent reviews of nearby restaurants and picked a place which suited the tastes of all four of us. Coming back to the house quite late, Sandra and Sean treated us with another cup of hot tea and a wonderful conversation about gardening, Irish history, tour recommendations and some ideas on how to spend great times around Ireland. After a wonderful night’s sleep in great beds (including high-quality linen) we enjoyed the beautiful and fully equipped en-suite bathrooms.
Well rested, Sandra’s fresh-prepared breakfast was the perfect start for the day. She had thought of everything and spoilt us with a range of continental and Irish breakfast served on a wonderful tablecloth. Breakfast was served in the family’s large kitchen which is a perfect place to enjoy the garden view and to get a glimpse of real Ireland. Sandra went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and we felt really welcomed. Sandra and Sean really took care of us and made us feel like family.
Overall, the time at Sandra’s and Sean’s place was joyful and the highlight of my parents’ visit to Ireland. We are very grateful to have met such a wonderful and inspiring couple who filled their house with warmth and love (and three cute dogs that are very well-trained!). I would definitely recommend this place and would be glad to come back one day.
