We have been renting our spare room with airbnb and for almost one year and we really enjoy meeting and hosting so many friendly and interesting new people.
We live in a beautiful and large (60 sq/m), bright and sunny fourth floor apartment in a traditional building right in the centre of El Poble Sec a really vibrant area and very close to the city centre by foot and served with Metro L2 and L3 about 200 metres away.
The lounge / dining room is a large open plan with a nice sunny balcony.
We have a piano (François is a piano teacher) and a large collection of books and music on vinyl and CD.
The guest room has a comfortable new double bed and the room is very bright and clean.
It has an external window and some herbs in the window box.
The room also has blinds and shutters.
We have free fast WiFi.
Clean towels and bed linen are provided and there are a collection of guidebooks.
There is a hair dryer, iron, ironing board and washing machine which guests are welcome to use.
You are welcome to help yourselves to breakfast, we have a good selection of:
Cereals - muesli, fruit and fibre etc.
Tea - normal, green, red, mint...
Milk and fruit juice.
We hope you'll really enjoy your stay us.
We are happy to provide you with information on what's going on in the city.
If there is anything we can help you with during your stay please feel free to ask.
We are gay friendly.
We are straight friendly too.
Come to think of it we are just plain friendly!
We don't smoke or have any pets.
We love traveling and we love meeting new people and exploring this beautiful city.
English, French and Spanish spoken.
If there's anything else you need to know then please feel free to contact us.
Mark y François.
Poble Sec has everything you could want, there are more bars and restaurants within walking distance of the flat than I can count!
It really is an excellent and friendly neighbourhood.
On Carrer Blai there are many tapas bars, one of our favourites is Blai Tonight where they have a great selection of fresh Montiditos (Pinchos) for 1€ (1.20€ on the terrace) just take a plate from the bar and help yourselves remembering to keep the sticks so the waiter can work out how much to charge you.
La Rambla is a 15 minute walk and El Gotico is about a 20 minute walk.
The beautiful park of Montjuic is literally on our doorstep and is a really beautiful place to go for a walk or have a picnic.
Paral-lel metro station (L2 and L3) is a couple of minutes walk and there are numerous bus services running along Paral-lel including the night bus.
Sagrada Famillia is on L2 (20 minutes) and Park Guell is on L3 (25 minutes) and Passeig de Gracia where you'll find Casa Batllo and La Pedrera is also on L2.
You can walk to the beach in about 30 minutes or you can take the bus from Paral-lel.
Metro L2 and L3 - 200 metres away.
Buses and taxis on Avingunda Paral-lel.
A 15 minute walk into the city centre for La Rambla etc. etc.
The apartment is on the fourth floor with no lift/sin ascensor.
Mark's apartment is great - the bedroom is small but clean and comfortable, and the location is wonderful. The kitchen is also small (hey, it's Barcelona) but again very neat and clean, with everything that one could want. We didn't use it much, because we were spoiled for choice with the many cheap and good local cafes.
Mark was a very attentive host, and we would have no hesitation in returning to his apartment or recommending it to others.
Mark and his partner are 2 nice people and quite hospitable. The room they are offering within their apartment is very very small, just a bit bigger than the double bed in the room. Not sure why they are calling it a "double room" as they are only renting out one small room, the other is there's. There is no floor mat or rug in the room, there is no bed stand to put things on and the lighting is weak. The hot water works on gas and for some reason went cold in some of the showers - wasn't a great experience.
The smell of cooking in the small and not so ventilated apartment and the noise made at night some evenings are OK, if you are used to hostels or dormitories, if you are already a hotel user than it is less than great. The location is quite good, although there are better in Barcelona, it is only 500 M's from the subway and that's always a good thing. I would say that for the money I paid it was OK, but at the end of the day I longed for something a bit more than what they are offering.
This is our first complaint! I don't know what you were expecting but you got exactly what was listed on the airbnb website?
We are friendly, accommodating people and we love meeting new people
We have met and become friends with people from all over the world but you really behaved like a total arsehole.
Perhaps you should adjust your attitude, chill out and stop being such a dick, enjoy life and all that it gives us and spend less time looking for problems?
Maybe then you can enjoy life?
And if you want a hotel then pay for hotel
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Totally agree with the previous reviews, Mark and François are really nice, discreet and welcoming people.
Moreover, the apartment is nicely located not far from Mont-Juic, 3 min walk from the metro and 1 min from a cool, Michelin-awarded tapas bar. I loved the Poble-Sec area, lively without being overwhelemed by tourists. The apartment is clean and tidy, i mean.. really tidy! Just be aware you have 4 floors to get in, but unless you're on a wheelchair, this is no major problem.
My stay at Mark's home was pleasant from the outset. Mark is a friendly and very helpful host, and nothing is too hard or troublesome for him to do for his guests, besides being a great conversationalist. The apartment was so conveniently located, that I was able to pop back in sometimes during sightseeing, if I decided to do so. I greatly recommend his home for location, atmosphere, good rates and an extremely pleasant host.
It was exactly what we hoped to get from our holidays in Barcelona: wonderful flat, clean and comfortable, with a view on roofs and of course, with great hosts! The room is ideal for two, the bathroom is large, there is no noise from the street - nothing to complain!! The flat is near the street where in the morning you can have a cup of coffee and in the evening have fun at local tapas-bars. The shop is in the next building, metro station is 5 min walk, Rambla is about 15 min walk. Mark and François, thank you so much! We hope to stay with you again when we come back to Barcelona!
Mark is a very nice and considerable host. He allowed us to stay until evening on our last day while he was away for Christmas. We managed the check out very smoothly. The room is very clean and the bathroom is very spacious. Mark provided everything we needed including mineral water. We recommend Mark and Mark's room to you!
There is nothing you would find cold in this greatly located, elegantly furnished, peacefully sound-full, warmly heated flat!
Yes, warmly heated, not by radiator but by the warm hearts of Mark and Antony and their sincere care!
I cannot imagine staying elsewhere, not because it's worth every single penny, (on the contrary it's worth more) but simply because I would feel I miss the personal touch, care (and wine of-course!:))
Thanks so much for the nice review and the lovely message that you left in the guest book.
It was an absolute pleasure to host you and next time you must come for longer.
And we'll hopefully see you in London in the summer for a couple of pints of Guinness, unless we see you here before then!
All the best and have a great Christmas and New Year.
Mark y Francois.
Thanks for everything, we really enjoyed our stayed in Barcelona and in your home! Very nice appartment and nice location!! See you the next time!!
Yes the weather was awful when you came to stay and so unusual as the previous week it was 24°C and sunny!
We have now had heating installed ready for the winter so all the rooms are heated and we are nice and toasty.
If you are in BCN again please come and stay with us, you'd be most welcome.
