The Space

We are lucky to have a beautiful, large and stylish bright, sunny fourth floor apartment in a traditional building right in the centre of El Poble Sec.
It is a really vibrant area with many amenities and is very close to the city centre by foot and served with Metro L2 and L3 about 200 metres away.

The lounge / dining room is a large open plan space with a nice sunny balcony.
We have a piano (François is a piano teacher) and a large collection of books and music on vinyl and CD.

The guest room has a comfortable new double bed and the room is bright and clean.
It has an external window and some herbs in the window box.
The room also has blinds, shutters and a fan.

We have free fast WiFi.
Fresh clean towels and bed linen are provided and there are a collection of guidebooks and maps for you to use.
There is a hair dryer, iron, ironing board and washing machine which guests are welcome to use.

You are welcome to help yourselves to breakfast and we have a good selection of:

Cereals - muesli, fruit and fibre, cornflakes etc.
Tea - normal, green, red, mint...
Milk and fruit juice.

We are happy to provide you with information on what's going on in the city and if there is anything we can help you with during your stay please ask us.

We are gay friendly.
We are straight friendly too.
Come to think of it we are just plain friendly!

We don't smoke or have any pets.
We love traveling and we love meeting new people and exploring this beautiful city.

English, French and Spanish spoken.

Check in and check out are flexible and if you have a late departure time then you are welcome to leave your bags and collect them later.

If there's anything else you would like to know then please feel free to contact us.

Guest Access

Guests have their own private bedroom and are welcome to use the kitchen and dining area in the morning for breakfast.
The large bathroom is shared with myself and Francois.

Interaction with Guests

As much or as little as required.
We have very good knowledge of the city and can recommend some really great bars, restaurants, museums etc. etc.
Just let us know what you are interested in doing and seeing and I am sure we will be able to help you.
Including loads of great places you'd never find without local knowledge.

The Neighborhood

Poble Sec has everything you could want, there are so many great bars and restaurants withing a few minutes walk.
It really is an excellent and friendly neighbourhood.
On Carrer Blai there are many tapas bars, one of our favourites is Blai Tonight where they have a great selection of fresh Montiditos (Pinchos) for 1€ (1.20€ on the terrace) just take a plate from the bar and help yourselves remembering to keep the sticks so the waiter can work out how much to charge you.

La Rambla is a 15 minute walk and El Gotico is about a 20 minute walk.
The beautiful park of Montjuic is literally on our doorstep and is a really beautiful place to go for a walk or have a picnic.

Paral-lel metro station (L2 and L3) is a couple of minutes walk and there are numerous bus services running along Paral-lel including the night bus.
Sagrada Famillia is on L2 (20 minutes) and Park Guell is on L3 (25 minutes) and Passeig de Gracia where you'll find Casa Batllo and La Pedrera is also on L2.
You can walk to the beach in about 30 minutes or you can take the bus from Paral-lel.

Getting around

Metro L2 and L3 - 200 metres away.
Buses and taxis on Avingunda Paral-lel.
A 15 minute walk into the city centre for La Rambla etc. etc.

Other Things to Note

The apartment is on the fourth floor with no lift/sin ascensor but I am happy to help with your bags.

We are always available to welcome new guests so if instant book is available then please go ahead and book.

  • They are great! My fiancee and I stayed in his house at the beginning and end of our trip to Europe and we loved it. We felt welcomed and received great tips. In our goodbye, they took us to meet one of the best paellas in Barcelona. We love it. We really recommend them.

  • Thanks Mark and Francois for a very friendly reception in your great city of Barcelona. We enjoyed the vibe of the neighbourhood, we had a lovely room and Mark's tips about things to do and how to get there proved invaluable. It felt great knowing we had a 'home away from home' when visiting a new town and city for the first time. My daughter and I felt very comfortable staying there, because we had a truly lovely double room with wide windows and easy access to the rest of the house. We will not forget you guys, hope to visit again one day, and would love to meet up if ever you travel as far south as Cape Town, South Africa. Thanks again, and our very best wishes. Louise and Elsabe Boshoff, Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

  • We had an excellent 2 days stay at Mark and Francois's house. Mark gave us really good tips about exploring Barcelona and his collection of eccentric travel books about Barcelona also gave us a unique perspective while exploring the city.

The house is centrally located, is close to the bus stop and the train station and is relatively close to Barceloneta, the beach closest to the city. The only downside was the long flight of stairs and that was troublesome for us only because we had two big bags to carry up and down. It should be fine for people who are not carrying too much luggage and especially for young travelers.

Both Mark and Francois were around to share a word with us when we were in the house and their house was always filled with nice music and lovely books, which we appreciated :)

  • Mark and François are great hosts and their flat is wonderful. The place has a very open feel with the balcony in the living room and windows in the guest room. Awesome location too, in a part of town near to several great local restaurants and a metro stop. I highly recommend it!

  • Surely we started our EuroTrip with 'Gold Key'! We coudn't be happier knowing about our return to their home sweet home on July 3. Certainly we began and will end our journey in the wY we possible, just because of them. We'll never forget, we wish the best in the world for these friendly, educated and wonderful guys. Kind regards :) Fred&Audrey from Brazil

  • Great apartment, perfectly located within walking distance of most major tourist sites, but also very close to lots of great local spots. Mark and François were friendly and helpful, the common area was very pleasant, and the place was a great value overall. The room was quite small, but that shouldn't matter given you will presumably be on vacation rather than hiding out. Would definitely recommend.

  • Mark and Francois are two nice, educated, helpful and easy-going guys. When staying there you don't almost feel their presence. The apartment is cosy and the building picturesque. The location is perfect to visit the city and the neighborhood Poble Sec is very nice with a lot of bars and cheap restaurants. I have definitely found my place in Barcelona! Marco & Franco
