Jeremy, yes, the villa does have spectacular views as you mention. Therefore apparently it has to be located on the hillside. It is indeed much easier accessible than most villas on Koh Samui with a comparable view. As a matter of fact it is one of a few villas with such a view from which one can walk to the ring road in less than 5 min.
Songtaews (group taxis) circle Samui's ringroad which is 500m from the villa for a small fare. They usually don’t leave the ring road. Propper taxis do charge a minimum fee of THB 400. Hence it is certainly a good idea to rent a car (from THB 1000/day) or scooter (THB 250/day) to get around easier and to see much more of our beautiful island. Apparently you were travelling on a budget and preferred to walk. There are indeed dogs all over Koh Samui, but I never had any complaints nor did I ever hear that someone has been bitten. However, your boyfriend seemed overanxious of dogs and other things.
The villa is nicely furnished with furniture less than 2 years old. The kitchen is fully fitted with oven, dishwasher, capsule coffee machine, etc. The coffee capsules are being provided at THB 30/pce. or can be purchased directly at Boncafe’s shop.
As mentioned in the listing, the energy consumption is metered and charged at THB 7/unit which is a very standard price in Koh Samui. In the villa there are 5 a/c units with average 5kW. We recommend our guests to turn them off when they leave the villa and normally the costs for our guests are in the range of THB 200-500/day for the whole villa. However, if all units are run 24 hours a day, the electricity bill can be significantly higher.
Since there were only the 2 of you, travelling on a budget, yet not really into self-catering, this generous villa was certainly not ideal for you to stay. A hotel or hostel close to the beach and the entertainment area would likely have suited you better.
