Private & comfy, our craftsman home offers close proximity to many amenities. Steps from Lake Merritt, subway, restaurants, theatre, cafes, and a major freeway. 20 minutes on the bus to San Francisco. Feel like home when you're away. Welcome!
No need for a pesky alarm, the sun peaking through the curtains will wake you in this beautiful Craftsman home built in 1910. The house is 1 block from Lake Merritt and central to restaurants, shopping, transportation and more! The room is spacious, about the size of a small apartment. One large closet is available to you. A large window allows fresh air, sun and a street view. A TV with cable is in the room for your convenience, and wireless Internet is available throughout the home. We have a queen bed plus a futon in the room. The futon accommodates one small child or petite teen/adult.
The home is 2 stories, and the private room is on the 2nd floor. There is one bathroom which is shared, and a water closet (bathroom with toilet) on the main floor. You are welcome to share the other parts of the home including a living room with fireplace, a full kitchen, a dining room, den with cable TV and back yard. The house is about 2600 square feet providing plenty of room for privacy, as well as casual conversation. The home is shared by myself and my brother who lives in a separate basement apartment on the ground floor.
This location doesn't require transportation. I walk to pretty much everything including work. Bus stops and casual carpool are a block or two away. BART is a about a 25 minute lovely walk along the Lake, and there are both Zip and City Car Share lots 1-2 blocks away. There are also Hertz and Enterprise car rentals about 8 blocks away.
In addition there is a coffee shop literally a block down the street with ATM. There are grocery stores, gym and exercise studios, a lovely theatre with the latest movie releases, the Lake itself, and many other restaurants, performance venues and a museum a walk or bike ride away. Every Saturday there is a wonderful Farmers Market that has been recognized nationally, providing not only food, but great music and hand-made gifts.
If driving, the 580 freeway, a major artery, is a couple blocks away, and there is parking on the street. Oakland also provides numerous parks with hiking and incredible views that would require a short drive or a good bike ride. There is much to explore in this city and as a native, I am happy to provide you some great ideas! Oh, and we have a couple bikes available to you - Oakland is a bike-friendly city including bike lanes or major streets.
I work at home alot, so there is usually someone around the home. We are happy to engage in conversation or leave you to your own devices. Coffee and tea, towels, sheets, soap, and such are provided.
There is a city bus that stops about 2 blocks away and will have you in the heart of San Francisco in approximately 20 minutes.
Please let me know the number of guests, and how the other guests relate to you i.e. friends, family, etc. The room can accommodate up to 3 adults, or 2 adults and a child comfortably. There is a queen bed + futon. There is an additional charge of $10 per night for a third person (child or adult) in the room. Please, no overnight guests except those included in the reservation.
We request that you treat our home as if it were your own. The neighborhood is quiet and generally friendly and we look for visitors to be the same. We are a drug-free, pet-free, smoking-free home. We also don't host parties larger than small dinner or outdoor gatherings. We will respect your privacy and property and request the same.
Please note that there is street sweeping in the area. There are signs that mark days and timeframes for street sweeping. If you are parked in a spot at the wrong day and time, you will most likely get a parking ticket. Take notice of these signs so that you don't receive an unexpected souvenir from your trip!
That's pretty much it!
The neighborhood where this room is located is very convenient for walking to restaurants and interesting shops, or even an exercise stint around Lake Merritt's 3+ miles. It is also well-situated for car access to streets and easily-traveled freeways to any of the many environs that the Bay Area offers. Wonderful location! If you decide to have a vehicle, expect to be mindful of parking in a dense urban neighborhood. While getting a space is not impossible it can be a bit tricky. "Private Room, Central Location" is part of an interesting enclave of historic, well-kept homes.
Cynthia, as host, was very respectful of my privacy and yet open to conversations and congenial snacking. I was very comfortable when I wanted to just chill out. No problem resting in this quiet house with background jazz music playing in its more public spaces.
As a person who does not prefer to share a bathroom, there were some concerns prior to my stay here. However, those were quickly put aside. The shared bathroom is very clean and the sharing is so considerate. I really appreciate how well this aspect of my experience in Cynthia's house worked out.
Yes, I would definitely stay there again!
We had a great stay with Cynthia. Oakland gets a bad rap but we found some really nice, hip places nearby like Haddon Hill Cafe. Riding the BART into SF was also an easy and cheap trip. Cynthia's house was nice and even though we were sharing it, it barely felt that way as she's organized it nicely so that guest also have their privacy. It's a deal you really can't beat if you're trying to get into SF cheaply. We also found street parking right outside.
Cynthia was a welcoming host and I enjoyed my stay at your lovely Lake Merritt home.
Both nights I walked only a block away to some very nice restaurants and a new wine bar "Bay Grape" which was terrific.
We had a great stay with Cynthia! She was lovely and helpful and has a beautiful home to share. Although this wouldn't work for everyone. we had three adults sharing the room (2 women and a man) and it worked well for us as an affordable option. Thanks Cynthia!
We had a great stay in Cynthia's home. It was very accommodating. The location was very close to many great restaurants and our travel destination was within walking distance. We had access to any amenities we needed, coffee, fruit, tea. She has a beautiful, comfortable home.
Cynthia was a gracious host who has lived in the area for a while and had lots of recommendations for us. She has a beautiful home, the room is large and very private. She was around when we needed suggestions and otherwise very respectful of our privacy. The location is very convinient to great restaurants on Grand Ave, the lake and a pleasant 20 minute walk to Uptown area and the 19th st BART station.
Our stay with Cynthia was pleasant host. Her house is located just couple blocks from lake Merritt, which is great.
He house is very big, clean, and comfortable.
So a little about your host, ME! I am an entrepreneur, world traveller, casual gym visitor, writer, and lover of food and good times. I'm the rare California native so know alot about both parts of our lovely state. While I am new to AirBnB, I've stayed at many homes throughout my travels. I enjoy meeting people and hope to meet you when you arrive!
My general philosophy and practice is to enjoy each day that we have. I'm pretty laid back, and comfortable with exploring on my own or with friends. So no worries if you want your privacy, or want to share a laugh or a meal.
