Charming 1 bedroom apartment in a quiet neighborhood. Easy access to transit and tourist areas.

The Space

You will enjoy your stay in San Francisco in this cozy, beautiful apartment. This fully furnished apartment will comfortably sleep three people. There is a luxurious queen-size bed in the bedroom and a sofa in the living room which folds down to make a second bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, stove, oven, granite counters, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, cooking and eating utensils. You'll find a selection of teas and coffee, as well as some basic condiments, all complimentary. Clean sheets and towels are supplied. There is a coin-op laundry one block away if you need to do laundry.
There is a garden out the back where you can sit out on a lovely day.

We are conveniently located two blocks from Golden Gate Park, and it's main attractions (Calif. Academy of Sciences, DeYoung Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers) are within walking distance. USF is two minutes walk away. Within 15 minutes walking is the Haight-Ashbury district and UCSF to the south, the Presidio, Geary and Clement St. business corridors to the north. Just down the street is Rossi Recreation Center, with pool, tennis courts, and playground. This is a very safe neighborhood to walk around.

We are located right along a bus line that will take you downtown to the Union Square area, financial district and Embarcadero. Street parking is plentiful, but there are restrictions during the day. Contact me if you need a visitors parking permit (there is an additional fee of $60 for the permit).

This apartment is a quiet and comfortable place to unwind after a day exploring San Francisco. Enjoy your stay!

Guest Access

You will have a fully private apartment, including private bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There is a garden out the back that is shared and you are welcome to enjoy. Help yourself to lemons or herbs, but please leave the rest of the vegetables that are growing.

The Neighborhood

The Lone Mountain neighborhood (also part of the Inner Richmond neighborhood) is the home of the University of San Francisco. It is a quiet, residential neighborhood with basic amenities such as cafes, laundry, and groceries.

Getting around

The public transportation in SF is pretty good. From the apartment, there is a bus line that will take you to the city center. You catch the 31 bus at Arguello and Turk, one block from the apartment, and get off at Powell & Market St. It’s about a 25 minute ride. At Powell and Market St., there are many options. Union Square and the major shopping district is in this area. You can also catch the cable car here, which will take you on a scenic ride to Fisherman’s Wharf, a major tourist destination.

The tourist information center is also located here, where you can buy a Muni Passport that will give you unlimited rides on busses, street cars, and cable cars. I highly recommend it. A 7 day pass costs $29. (website hidden) "sfmta muni passport" for more information.

Back at the apartment, there is another bus that runs along Arguello Blvd., one block from the apartment. It is the 33 bus. This bus takes you to the Haight-Ashbury, Castro, and Mission district neighborhoods, which are unique neighborhoods that offer a more local feel.

Other Things to Note

There are several options for getting from the airport to the apartment.
Public Transportation:
This is the cheapest option but takes the longest. From the Airport, you follow the signs to BART. Take BART to the Powell St. station. Exit the station and look for the Muni bus stop on the street level. Take the 31 Balboa bus, outbound. Take this bus for several miles. Get off at the Stanyan St. stop. Then walk down the hill to the corner of Turk St. and Willard North. The house is on the corner.
Shuttle:
Shuttles/Vanpools are shared vans that will take you right to the door. This will generally get you here faster, but you may need to wait till the other passengers are dropped off. It costs $18-$20 per person (tips for the driver are customary). Look for the "vanpool" signs as you exit the baggage claim area. Tell the driver or attendant that you are going to the Richmond District. (website hidden) "sfo airport shuttle" for more information.
Taxi:
Taxis are fastest but most expensive. It will cost about $50 with tip for the ride but if you have 3 or more people it can be cheaper than a vanpool. Taxi stations are outside the baggage claim area (follow the signs for taxis at the airport).

Parking Notes

I generally recommend to visitors not to have a car unless you will be making day trips outside the city. There are many good transportation options to get around within the city. However, if you really need a car you will need a parking permit.

The permit allows you to park on the street in my neighborhood all day. Without the permit, you can only park for 2 hours between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. The permit does not allow you to park anywhere in the city, just my neighborhood. The cost of the permit is $40 for two weeks (I charge an additional $20 to go down and get the permit for you). Another thing you need to be aware of is street cleaning. There are certain times where you can't park even if you have a permit due to street cleaning. This happens on different days of the week on certain sides of the street, and is for a couple of hours in the morning. You just need to make sure your car is parked on the other side of the street during this time.
Street parking is not too difficult in my area. If you are parked on a slope, be sure to turn your wheels into the curb. Our parking enforcement is very unforgiving.

As an alternative, you might consider not getting a car. You can get a Muni Passport that will give you unlimited rides on busses, street cars, and cable cars. Also, if you have an iPhone or Android phone there are applications that will summon a car to take you wherever you need to go. This is similar to taxi service but is much better. Type "sf ridesharing services" into your search engine. I recommend SideCar.

  • We loved Phil's apartment. It was very spacious and had just about anything you could want in it. The apartment looked exactly as seen on his site. It was also in a very nice neighborhood. The internet worked well. We appreciated the comprehensive list of recommended ideas for restaurants and other places of interests. We would like to return to Phil's apartment (if available) next time we are in San Francisco.

  • Phil was very pleasant and accessible throughout the booking process and during the stay. The accommodations were exactly as advertised, and we loved the neighborhood, access to Golden Gate Park, buses to all parts of the city, the park on the corner (with a great playground for our toddler), and plenty of restaurant options within walking distance just a few blocks north.
