The Space

Our New North Shore Bamboo Bungalow!

We have recently completed a remodel and as of October 2013 we are proud and excited to open this condo for travellers to enjoy!

We put a ton of care, energy, attention and fun into this condo and it really shows.

The Bamboo Bungalow located in Princeville serves as a perfect launchpad for the beautiful north shore of Kauai.

FULLY EQUIPPED AND CLOSE TO EVERYTHING! This is the best North Shore location possible!

Numerous improvements include but are not limited to: new flooring, paint and added color, many new appliances, fixtures and furniture... and of course, we provide you with everything you need, making it easy to take advantage of all the spectacular wonders of the North Shore, which are all within minutes of our great place.

Our Bamboo Bungalow has nearly every amenity for you. We want your experience here to be easy, efficient and fun. From this condo you can maximize your time on Kauai.

The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to go (4 burner stove w oven, microwave, lg. fridge w freezer, quality blender, cook ware, etc.). All you need to be enjoying the local flavors of the island is great local produce from one of the many farmers markets and you will be all set! We even provide you with many spices, oils and basic staples to mix things up and enjoy your home cooking.

The bedroom loft has a California King sized bed, equipped with 4 inches of dreamy memory foam for ultimate comfort. There is a skylight above the bed which can be opened if you wish and a super quiet ceiling fan above the bed.

The condo is further outfitted with a large bathroom, a dining table that seats four, a comfortable sleeper sofa (queen), a 32" flat screen HD TV with cable + free streaming Netflix as well as Wifi and an iPod doc/MP3 compatible stereo.

Tastefully decorated, this spacious, upper story, bright and airy condo also has a large lanai. Keep in mind that it is a corner unit, so along with many nice windows the condo also has a great light and sun and trade wind exposure to enjoy, with no other units looking in your windows. The lanai is a great place to enjoy a sunny morning while listening to the birds, or a shady afternoon after a day at the beach. Out on the lanai you will also find that we provide a large sun umbrella, cooler, multiple beach chairs, boogie boards and a collapsable table.

Your view looks out along the Java Plum trees lining the Queen Emmalani pathway to Anini Beach and the Prince Golf course beyond. Anini Beach is known as one of the safest beaches for swimming on Kauai, with excellent snorkeling inside its protective barrier reef. In fact, Anini has the longest barrier reef in the state of Hawaii! This outer reef breaks all the waves, leaving very safe and shallow water for those that like to float around in safety.

This charming condo borders the beautiful Prince golf course off the back balcony (with the Anini Beach path between the golf course and a large grassy lawn below the condo) and just out the front door and below the entrance balcony is the pool, where you can conveniently take a dip whenever you feel.

From the Queen Emmalani Pathway you can turn towards Aninni Beach or towards the Princeville Shopping Center and be at either destination within 5-10 minutes by foot.

It will take you 10 minutes if you stop and watch the waterfalls along the way, or 5 minutes if you are in need of your coffee fix. The shopping center is where you will also find the primary grocery store on the north shore as well as coffee shops, boutique stores, multiple restaurants, live music, a yoga studio, a post office, banks/ATMs, a library and bus stop and a few other places to discover on your own.

As mentioned, this condo is situated on a quiet golf course, but at the same time it is the most nearby condo complex to these amenities, making it an easy and enjoyable walk.

In general we recommend renting a vehicle while on Kauai. However for those who enjoy to walk and for anyone who would prefer not to drive there is plenty to see and do on foot from the Bamboo Bungalow, with the option of public transit close by.

The greater Princeville area is a quiet resort community located on a bluff overlooking Hanalei Bay and offers spectacular views of Hanalei Bay and of the famous “Bali Hai” ridge that earned its fame from the movie South Pacific. For golf lovers it is also home to the Makai and famed Prince golf courses.

Beautiful Hanalei Bay is only 5 minutes away by car. A great place to walk, swim, boogie board or enjoy surfing from beginner to advanced abilities.

Kilauea, with it's famed lighthouse, wonderful bakery, restaurants and shops is only 15 minutes away by car and of course your choices for nearby beautiful beaches are endless in either direction.

More In the neighborhood (Just A Few Minutes Away by foot):

Start your morning with a walk down the Anini Beach Path (or down Wyllie Rd) to the Westin where you can start your morning with a cup of freshly brewed Starbucks coffee. The Princeville center also has great options for breakfast, coffee and smoothies.

The magical north shore:
The north shore of Kaua'i is ideal for spectacular adventure and tropical escape. Kaua'i's dramatic landscape has been carved for centuries by water and the island's stunning scenery and misty cliffs are punctuated by cascading waterfalls with countless breathtaking vistas. The adventures available to you on this Garden Isle are endless; trek the Kalalau trail and be humbled by the deep ancient valleys, wash your cares away under a waterfall, take a surf lesson in beautiful Hanalei Bay, explore a river on a kayak or take a bird's eye tour of the island by helicopter. Get a thrill while checking out the sights from a zip line, ride a horse in the backcountry, or be inspired in Limahuli Garden and Preserve. The list goes on and on, with opportunities to visit sacred Hawaiian ruins, walk along white sandy beaches, take a boat down the unforgettable Na Pali coast, body surf in playful waves, snorkel with sea turtles or test your balance on a stand-up paddleboard. Find your own dream adventure, relax and take in the wonder of this magical island.

We are proud and excited to be offering this beautiful condo to travellers wishing for an affordable place in paradise to call home.

Whether you are looking for a place to call base camp for your many adventures, or a place to relax, study or even write a book, our newly offered Bamboo Bungalow will be the perfect place to realize all your Kauai dreams.

Interaction with Guests

We love sharing the love of our island with our guests and totally dig offering our local advice, recommendations and any helpful tips our guests can think of. We feel that vacation time and money is too valuable to waste, so we make a deliberate effort to make ourselves available for questions and make sure to give genuine answers. That being said, we don't like to pester our guests and value their privacy too, so we make our assistance known and easily available, but wait for our guests to request any information they are interested in first, before talking their ear off... ;-)

The Neighborhood

Princeville is an amazingly convenient and beautiful community on the North Shore.

From our location it is easy to walk to the beach or the grocery store and the views in either direction are spectacular, with ocean one direction and mountains and waterfalls the other! In fact there is a network of fantastic walking and running trails all over Princeville, making it likely the safest and easiest of locations of the island to walk or take a run. Another bonus is that all the golf courses are open for pedestrian exploration after 5pm, which is beyond excellent for sunset strolls.

The coastline below Princeville provides some of the most pristine, clear water due to the lack of rivers and fresh water runoff. Because of these Princeville has some amazing exploring to enjoy below its bluffs (surf conditions permitting!!). The clear water provides some of the very best turtle viewing, snorkeling, pristine coves and nooks and cranny gems on the island. Some of these places are hard to find, so ask us and we will be happy to guide you along with the customized map we provide in the condo. We've fallen in love with Princeville and know you will too!

Getting around

In general we recommend renting a vehicle while on Kauai as it provides most visitors with the island access and freedom they prefer. However, for those who enjoy to walk and for anyone who would prefer not to drive there is plenty to see and do on foot from the Bamboo Bungalow. There is also the option of public transit with a bus stop only 5-10 minutes walk from the condo. Unfortunately though, Kauai is still a bit behind the times with its public transportation and the bus does not cover the entire island. The furthest the bus goes on the North Shore is to Hanalei town, so if folks want to make it as far as the Na Pali cost trail, Ke'e Beach or any sights West of Hanalei without a car, this makes it challenging. Many people do "hitch hike", but this is not entirely recommended and is marginally successful.

  • Lani and sky have a beautiful place! Great location--easy watch to anini beach and walking distance to the princeville commercial center. I loved that they had a little info binder with recommendations for local restaurants stores farmers markets etc. also super easy check in and out--came and went when it was convenient for us. Lani was available 24/7 and very quick to respond via email (and phone but we never had to). Also nice perk: lounge chairs/beach chairs beach towels, snorkels, wake boards, and coolers! No need to rent or buy your own. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and would stay again.

  • We loved our stay at this condo in Princeville, it was the perfect place to get away for a few days. Very conveniently located on the North Shore, quiet and peaceful. It definitely has everything you need, whether you prefer to stay in and relax, or get out for a busy day full of activities. We would definitely visit again!

  • Easy check-in, awesome location, foot path to one of our favorite beaches-anini, hosts we're easily available and came to our rescue when we locked ourselves out. Had great beach equipment to use at condo, full kitchen. North island has best beaches and scenery, can't go wrong with this place. Thanks lani and sky, wish we could have met, next time :) Sara and mike

  • The condo is very very clean. Good location, very quiete, very good equipment in the kitchen. Easy check in and a nice and easy 15 min. walk to the awesome anini beach. The terrasse is wonderful with the morning sun. We liked the condo very much.

  • My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Lani and Sky's home. The location on the north shore was very convenient and the apartment was spacious. Lani and Sky also communicated very well and were very responsive. We also particularly liked having a washer/dryer to use after some muddy hikes!

  • We had a great time in Kauai (despite the rain- we're a pack of adventurous girls!) and loved staying at Lani and Sky's place! It was super close to restaurants and shops, and we had a gorgeous view of all the waterfalls pouring down the mountains (a silver lining to the rain!). I would absolutely recommend staying here! Thanks, Lani and Sky!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Bamboo Bungalow, and Lani and Sky were amazingly attentive hosts. Even though we never met in person, we got nearly instant replies to our text messages. The condo was just what we needed for a family of 4 (two adults and 2 kids, 7 and 11). There is a comfortable king-size bed in the loft and an equally comfortable convertible queen in the living room. The website photos does not do the place justice---it’s really much larger, more charming, and more nicely situated than we imagined. The swimming pool is just feet away in front of the building, and the back lanai faces onto a path to Anini Beach and the spectacular Princeville golf course. The course was very popular, despite apparently being very expensive, and it was fun watching duffers getting every penny’s worth, playing soaking wet in the pouring rain. Parking is right downstairs, but the views out all of the windows were of nature. We enjoyed the muddy and challenging first 2 miles of the Kalalau trail---a great adventure with our kids. I had done the whole 11 miles my last visit Kauai (25 years ago), and it was every bit as beautiful as I remember (but a LOT more slippery in January than June). We were grateful for the strategically positioned hose near the front steps---to wash off our mud-caked Keens! We settled in that night for a viewing of Jurrasic Park (filmed in Kauai) on the Netflix-equipped flat panel TV.

It was easy to forget about the rest of the world---I only wished we had done it for a longer time. We split our 8-day visit between Princeville and Poipu, but even thought the weather was marginally better in the south, we were sad to leave the magical environment of the North Shore.

    Some non-obvious tips:

---The upscale restaurants in the area hardly seemed worth it. We bought great ahi tuna and ribeye steaks at the BigSave market in Kapaa and had dinners at the condo, with the help of a gas grill near the pool. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, condiments, and other food staples. The Foodtown in Princeville has a fabulous variety of poke (why don’t markets in California have this??!!).

--Our favorite somewhat hidden beautiful beach was in Moloaa, a 20 min drive. Big waves, a calm section to the right, and spectacularly peaceful and beautiful. Easy access from the road. We were lucky to find a good parking spot in late afternoon, but we imagine this could be tough at times.

--We had a fabulous time at the Friday night art fair in Hanapepe. Friendly people, great art and food, great live music, and the westernmost book store in the USA. Well worth the drive.

  • The condo was more than I expected. Everything I needed was there and it was so convenient to everything I wanted to do. Lani and Sky have put a lot of effort into this condo and it shows. Really the best vacation of my life. I'll be back. Thank you

  • The place was clean and in a nice spot. Lana and Sky were very accommodating hosts and we found the place in a great location.

    January 2014
  • The place was great! This was the first visit to Hawaii for me and my wife and the place was a perfect base for us to explore the Island. The condo was spacious, quiet, clean and very well-located. The hosts Lani & Sky were extremely helpful throughout the whole process. They gave us many helpful tips about Kauai and they even helped us with the car rental. They even helped us renting other places since we're on a long vacation and wanted to explore different areas of the island. They helped us in many ways beyond providing a lovely place. I'm very thankful to them. I highly recommend anyone to stay here. You'll enjoy this place very much.
