Private room in a house in Vézelay

House - Private room · Route d'Avallon, Vézelay, Burgandy 89450, France

The Space

The house is located at the bottom of the hill of Vézelay, a medieval fortified village which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A relatively small but authentic village with old world charm, which also happens to be a part of the Santiago di Compostella pilgrimage route, Vézelay caters to a large number of tourists every year. There are many restaurants, wine shops, galleries, boutiques, a bakery, a small supermarket, a post office and a pharmacy. On Wednesday mornings there is a little outdoor market at the bottom of the hill. At the top of the hill sits the basilica and the remains of the monastery established in the 9th century. (website hidden)

The 3-level house is located at the bottom of the hillside village on the busy main road where all the hotels are (the road can be busy with trucks and traffic, but all the hotels in Vézelay are on the same road). The main floor has a front sitting room and a rear living/dining room with doors out to the back courtyard garden and a kitchen. There is also a WC on this floor. We sleep on the second floor, where there is also an office and a bathroom. The private bedroom and bathroom for you are located on the third floor. You have to go up two sets of stairs, but you get the whole floor to yourself! The bedroom has hardwood floors and the bathroom is very bright and lovely (shower/sit tub, sink and toilet) with a skylight.

There are trains from Paris that arrive in Sermizelles with shuttle buses that take you to Vézelay (about 10 minutes away). It is also possible to get buses from Montbard TGV station (about 45 minutes away) via the SNCF train service.

Our house is a place that can offer you modern comfort while you explore the little streets, basilica and hiking trails of Vézelay.

Breakfast is an option at 5€/person, with tea, coffee, fresh baked goods, jams/honey, fruit, yogurt and cereal. Gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free options are available upon request.

We have a cat named Domino who is very friendly. :)

Looking forward to having you stay with us!

  • Marianne is a delightful hostess, who made the time to greet us during her working day. The accommodation is excellent and comfortable. We were made welcome to use the kitchen to cook our dinner, and ended up having a wonderful evening conversing with Marianne and her partner( and their cat). The accommodation is a minutes walk from the centre of Vezelsy, and parking is easy. Highly recommended.

  • Awesome location at the bottom of the scenic town and near the restaurants... along with the great access to the national park!
Marianne is the best host ever and offered us lovely homemade gluten free muffins and superb musli.
Fantastic room at the top of the house with loads of space and a nice private bathroom accessed on the same floor.
We'd stay here again and would advise you to!

A recommander.

Hi there! I'm a Canadian living in France with my French husband, Jean-Marc. I speak both English and French and Jean-Marc speaks a little English. I also rent out a farmhouse in the Auvergne and have been doing so since 2007. Jean-Marc and I enjoy a calm lifestyle and we like to take advantage of the many hiking trails around Vézelay. We also love to cook (and eat!). I work for a classical professional choir and a classical music festival in Vézelay and Jean-Marc is a gardener. We like meeting new people and sharing our local knowledge of things to see and do - we'd love to share Vézelay with you!
