Castle view apartment has recently been renovated to a very high standard and has everything you should need for a great stay in Edinburgh.
You could not stay more centrally than this historic spot in Edinburgh. The city of Edinburgh is a World Heritage Site; the Grassmarket was the central market square (and site of public hangings!) for the Old Town of Edinburgh with 500 years of history and architecture ranging from the 17th to the 21st century.... The Grassmarket area The apartment building itself, ‘Porteous Pend’ is named after captain Porteous, captain of the guard who was hanged in 1736, after the Porteous Riots.
The Grassmarket area has been recently renovated as a bustling tourist area with a friendly, local vibe and offers an array of great independent shops, restaurants and bars. The Grassmarket is proud of its café culture and is a great area to spend an afternoon relaxing and people-watching.....
The best feature of the apartment is the view of the Edinburgh Castle!
There is no smoking in the apartment. It is on the first floor so it is not far to walk down the stairs outside to have a cigarette.
Please keep music noise level down after 10:30pm to respect the neighbours, the apartment block has some long term residents and other holiday guests.
This apartment is in a great location to explore Edinburgh and can not fault the view of the castle.. Amazing.
Apartment is small and basic and has everything you need, beds comfy.
The shower wasn't great and I felt the apartment could with looking a little more homely, sofa a little shabby.
Lovely apartment in a perfect location with castle view.
Would definitely stay again.
Fleur provided us with all the information we could possibly need during our stay! We felt safe and informed the whole time we were there. The flat is beautiful and the perfect size for the three of us. It was clean and we did not encounter any problems! We greatly enjoyed the location and were so excited to be amongst the nightlife of Grassmarket.
The apartment was great! Excellent location right on the Grassmarket and very central!! The apartment was very tidy and clean. Faultless really! When we arrived we easily collected the key and were given written directions which were very clear. Very easy checking out too.
We absolutely loved our stay at Fleurs. The apartment was in a wonderful central location with spectacular views.
Key pick up was easy, and great communication. I would highly recommend to anyone.
We enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh very much. The apartment is centrally located right at the Grassmarket which made discovering the city with all its sights very easy. We only took the taxi to get from and to the airport which took about 20 minutes and cost us 20pounds. Apart from that we were able to walk everywhere, especially since the weather was lovely. In case you need to take the bus there is a bus stop right across the street.
There are many nice restaurants and bars just around the corner and the supermarket is just a few minute walk up the street. Also it is not far from the university where you can find many nice cafés and enjoy sitting in the sun.
The apartment itself is lovely, though if staying there with more than 2 people and therefore using the sofa bed in the living room you should be aware that the window is to the street side and it can be a bit noisy at night as the Grassmarket is very busy, especially at night. The sleeping room is on the other side of the apartment and so it is nice and quiet at night and the bed is very comfy. The living room has a spectacular view on the castle so we always enjoyed the last drink of the day in the living room, watching the castle and the crowds outside. Also the apartment has everything you need in case you want stay in the apartment for breakfast or dinner (which we didn't because there were so many good places to eat nearby).
We didn't get to meet Fleur personally as she was away for the weekend but she arranged everything for our late check-in and helped with questions beforehand. As we were arriving after 6 pm she left the key behind the bar in the pub across the street so we just went there to pick it up. We had a little trouble with the heater in the beginning but communication was perfect and we were able to solve it quickly. Fleur is absolutely dedicated, helpful and friendly.
All in all we absolutely enjoyed our stay and can totally recommend it. Dear Fleur, thank you for letting us stay in your apartment.
Our flight had been delayed and I informed our host, Fleur about our late arrival. Pick-up of the keys were arranged and we got into the apartment without any problems. However, the heating did not work so we had to ask our host (her husband) to come over and fix it. Luckily, it worked well during the rest of our stay. The location of the apartment is perfect, with view to the castle. The apartment is clean and equipped satisfactory. Perfect place to stay for a short (or longer) visit to Edinburgh.
Originally from the Scottish Highlands but have lived in Edinburgh for most my life so have great local knowledge of the city and run my own independent fashion boutique in the city centre. Traveled to most parts of the globe and still plan to travel to the rest. Studied Anthropology, have a love of independent cinema and red wine.
