Our well equipped cottage has vines over the terrace and fresh herbs to pick There's a small pool and plenty of space to relax. Our olive farm is close to Mediterranean, mountains and Ebre delta. Well placed to visit both Barcelona and Valencia.
We are about 10 minutes from the Mediterranean coast. Our old stone built cottage is a stones throw from our farm house and has been completely renovated and refurbished. We can accommodate two comfortably and up to four people.
The cottage has a mezzanine bedroom with ladder-like stairs and wrought iron bannisters double bed. It has views over the farm and over to the Mediterranean. There's a sweet little kitchen with a gas hob and microwave, lovely local artisan dishes, glasses and tumblers and a large selection of pots and pans along traditional Spanish paella dish and tapas dishes. We provide complimentary olive oil from our farm and you can buy free range eggs and home made jam You will eat your meals inside or out under a canopy of vines.
Under the mezzanine is the sofa-bed to accommodate two more guests. There is also a cot available should you need one. There's log burner for winter nights which keeps the cottage cosy. There is a large bathroom with oodles of towels. Outside the casita we have converted the old "balsa" into a swimming pool for you to cool off in.
There are seven acres for you to wander round, A small pool to cool off in, furnished terraces around the cottage, barbecue, and a picnic cool-box to use. The pool is shared.
Interaction with Guests
We live on the farm and can help with as much or as little as you want, be it directions to the best beach or borrowing extra plates for a party! You can get involved with the work on the farm or get into the kitchen for some Mediterranean Cooking lessons too.
We are situated on the east coast of Spain about half way between Barcelona and Valencia. The cottage is on a working olive and almond farm where there are about seven and a half acres to explore with hammocks strategically placed on the terraces. Peace and quiet surrounds you as does the Mediterranean, mountains and the River Ebre delta. It is a perfect stop off point but excellent for o long stay as well.
The coastal towns and villages around us are very Spanish. L'Ampolla with fishing port and marina is just 15 minutes away with a large selection of restaurants and bars offering something to suit all tastes and pockets. The smaller villages are charming and bigger ones have lots to see. All have great indoor markets with a huge selection of fresh fish, meat and vegetables.
We are close to Tarragona and Tortosa: Valencia and Barcelona a train ride away. There is fishing on the sea and in the river, cycle hire available for the easy delta or the more challenging mountains. The Via Verde which goes fromTortosa to Horta St Joan following an old railway line is a great rout to try with lots of tunnels and picturesque lengths by the river Ebro. There are masses of birding opportunities throughout the year for enthusiasts as well. This part of Catalonia is steeped in Roman history and the people have a strong regional identity. It is a lovely place to visit for a stopover or for a longer break and really get to know the place.
The closest airport is Reus at 45-50 mins, Barcelona is next at just under 1 & 3/4 hours. There are good rail and bus links to local villages but to get to the farm itself you really need a car. There is plenty of parking at the farm. We have bikes to hire here at the farm and there are great walks up into the hills.
Other Things to Note
We are off the grid here; water and power are treated with respect. Our water comes from a bore hole and has been tested by a Pharmacy and is of a very high quality. It is pumped into a storage tank and is sometimes held for about a week. So we have put a water purifier in the cottage for you to use so that there is no need to buy any water whatsoever.
The electricity which works the lights and pumps etc comes from the solar power system. We are truly sun worshippers here.
There is a Welcome Pack which includes guidelines for looking after the finca and what we expect from our guests. Simple things like being careful to close gates behind you because of the dogs, being thoughtful about the use of electricity as this comes from directly from a solar power system and is a limited supply. Also being very careful with fire as olive trees burn very well.
We have another holiday home as well as ours here on the finca and ask that you respect the other visitors who are also here to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Great feelings! Manna House is the place you're looking for if you want to relax apart from the stressful world we're living in... Simon and Amanda an all his crew are very kind and will surely became part of your own story...
Join them in their amazing place you will not regret it.
We spent there 3 nights visiting the near Delta de l'Ebre and we will surely repeat oncer the family grows.
The house provides all you need and the place is great for your kids.
Amanda and Simon made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay, however if you have children this place may not be for you. Our young daughter loved the dogs, chickens, ducks and roosters but we didn't love the fact that the house is a mezzanine which meant we couldn't cook, talk or really have lights on after our daughter went to bed! The lack of a bath was a problem for us with our daughter as well. Also the stairs are a bit harzardous for kids although Amanda and Simon kindly lent us a stair gate to help with this. Another thing worth mentioning is that you are on site with the main house so if you're looking for absolute privacy, this might not be for you. We didn't mind that but others may prefer not to have to interact with your hosts. All in all it's a lovely place, true to the photos and description and well worth staying at if you're a couple looking to explore this area.
Michelle has made some very good comments which we welcome. However we do feel this is a fabulous place for children as we have fresh air, freedom to wander and explore safely and three beautiful dogs who love children.
We thank Michelle for confirming that our descriptions and photos represent what we provide including that we have a shower and not a bath. Our ethos on the farm is striving to conserve the precious resource of water and the provision of a bath would be against this. We are off the grid here.
The photos show quite clearly that there is a mezzanine with steep stairs, and it is after all an ancient farmer's cottage. We do understand that this could be difficult for a family with a tiny child but there are not two bedrooms in this property and it is open plan. We provided two stair gates, one for the top and one for the bottom so that the little girl would be safe. We also mention in the description that our home is on the farm and that it is a working farm and we work it. All farm buildings are fairly close together: this is how they are.
Hem passat unes dies molt agradables a la " casita" d'Amanda i Simon.
Great stay at the Cozy Coastal Cottage! Amanda and her husband have to be some of the nicest people we've ever met- they were extremely helpful, available, and kind. We also loved the company of their 2 Labradors, and chickens (great watching them over morning tea on the patio). The cabin had everything we needed, and then some. The water in the shower couldn't make up it's mind when it comes to temperature, and we were eaten by mosquitoes at night, but the latter was our fault for keeping the cabin door open for a few minutes while we unloaded our car. This cabin is the perfect place for families and people looking to be immersed in a working farm life. It is steps from the owners home, and close to farm workers living on the property, so it wasn't as private as we had hoped it would be, but we understand that the social aspect may be something that other travelers enjoy. Overall- we had a really great stay. It's clean, well equipped, safe, and peaceful and you will feel like family as soon as you arrive.

Hello, I am Amanda and my husband is Simon. We live exactly half way between Barcelona and Valencia along the Mediterranean coast of Spain. We are ex-pats and enjoying the sunshine and space here in Catalonia. We both come from a hospitality and food background and so we know how to look after our guests. We are offering space on our Olive and Almond farm for people who want to see Spanish Spain and get some peace and quiet. We have dogs and chickens and make our own electricity and pump our own water. Drop in if you are passing and see what's happening this week.
