Louisburgh is a wonderful destination requiring travel from Westport (voted Ireland's best place to live 2012/13), by the most scenic Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick, St Patrick's holy mountain, to get to. Every year many people make a pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick for quiet reflection and contemplation or simply to climb the mountain and take in the fabulous views from the summit.
Our home is within walking distance of Louisburgh, a quaint small village offering a range of shops, restaurants and bars and Heritage Centre to the Great Famine. Also close by is Carrowmore blue flag beach and further along Old Head and Carrowniskey beaches -great for surfing. A local ferry service travels across to Clare Island.
The drive from Louisburgh through Delphi Mountain Resort Connemara to Lenanne (site of The Field film) and further afield to Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey is simply fabulous.
We had wonderful Christmas. Thank you Meave. The house is fantastic, big kitchen with everything we needed, lovely living room with books and movies. Thank you again Meave.
Our stay at Louisburgh was fantastic! Maeve's house was exceptional on so many levels. It was very spacious, the kitchen had everything we could possibly need and the house was also very clean. The rooms were comfortable and we all slept soundly. There are a lot of books and DVD's. There's a lot to do around Louisburgh and time passed very quickly. If weather permits you have to climb Croagh Patrick (stunning views!), there are a los of beautiful beaches and the valley to Leenane is exceptional. Free Wifi is available at the tourist information in Louisburgh (even when it's closed). To eat out we can recommend Hudson's Pantry in Louisburgh and the Tavern on the road between Louisburgh and Westport (great Seafood Chowder!)
I will stay here again for sure!
The house is clean and cozy...lots of space for sleeping and relaxing very close to the town and beach....unfortunately off season the town is quite dead...must go to Westport for dinner food and shopping...
All in all it was great!!
Maeve's house at Ard Caher met our needs perfectly for a week's stay. It was spacious with lots of natural light, clean, warm and well equipped. The house is well stocked with books and dvds. And best of all it was a great central location for exploring both Mayo & Connemara. There is a folder in the house with loads of information about things to do in this area. We took advantage of this and the suggestions Maeve had made in an email - climbed nearby Croagh Patrick (which can be seen from the upstairs bedroom windows), walked to a lovely beach nearby, rode bikes on the Greenway Bike Path, drove through one of the world's most beautiful valleys from Louisburgh to Leenanne, plus much, much more. If wifi is a necessity, it is easily available in several locations in the village.
We stayed a weekend in Maeve place for a team building event. We really enjoyed the lovely house. The host is warm and really nice . She was waiting for us even if we arrived late in the night . I highly recommend the place , well situated and well equiped .
