Louisburgh is a wonderful destination requiring travel from Westport (voted Ireland's best place to live 2012/13), by the most scenic Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick, St Patrick's holy mountain, to get to. Every year many people make a pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick for quiet reflection and contemplation or simply to climb the mountain and take in the fabulous views from the summit.
Our home is within walking distance of Louisburgh, a quaint small village offering a range of shops, restaurants and bars and Heritage Centre to the Great Famine. Also close by is Carrowmore blue flag beach and further along Old Head and Carrowniskey beaches -great for surfing. A local ferry service travels across to Clare Island.
The drive from Louisburgh through Delphi Mountain Resort Connemara to Lenanne (site of The Field film) and further afield to Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey is simply fabulous.
Our home is very warm and welcoming, all I ask is please relax, feel at home and treat respectfully.
Maeve's place was ideal for our family as we have 3 adult children who could have their own bedroom. The house is fully equipped with quality items in every department even down to spare wetsuits. Though I wouldn't describe us as being sporty the house and the area are ideally sited for walking and water sports but if you just want to put your feet up , drive about , eat and drink ( as we did ) then you won't be disappointed either.
I had a wonderful stay at this property.Everything was perfect.I can't wait to return to that part of the world and I would stay at this property again.
The positives - the house is relatively new and is modern, clean, comfortable. The bathrooms were immaculate and there were plenty of fresh clean towels. The host, Maeve, was welcoming and warm. Her neighbor met us when we checked in and was available for questions. Louisburgh is in Connemara and is in a breathtakingly beautiful part of west Ireland.
The negatives - the heating system Is temperamental. Since some days in Ireland can be a bit cold having hot water and heating is important, especially if you are on a family vacation like we were. The first day there was no heating in the 3 upstairs bedrooms. On our last of the 3 nights, no heat or hot water in the house. The kitchen has modern appliances, but perhaps the one appliance one relies on - the microwave was barely functional.
The house of Maeve is great for a big family. We were three couples staying there and there was even a bedroom spared.
We had a fine cpnversation and the surroundings are really wonderful. Besides we had the great experience to be there during the local music festival.
Just a couple of small minuses;
We didn't find the kitchen quite clean and we could have used a little more equipment as one ot two good knives
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and local surroundings. I apologise for the kitchen not being as clean as could be, this has not happened before and I will ensure it maintains a higher standard. I will also ensure extra carving knives added to kitchen.
thanks once again.
We arrived in Louisburgh and the listing was exactly as advertised. Unfortunately, our arrival was also in the middle of a storm, which at some point caused the town to go black - nobody around us had electricity. Nora, the neighbour welcomed us on arrival and was helpful when the electricity went down: she came to check on us a couple of times and even drove to her mum's to get candles so we could have a cosy evening in front of the fireplace.
We had an amazing couple of days at Maeve's house. Maeve was very helpful in recommending places to go. The house is really spacious and well equipped. There were seven of us staying and the house fit us all comfortably.
Louisburgh itself was very welcoming. While out on walks several people stopped to chat to us and recommended places nearby we should see. It's a very beautiful area.
I would definitely recommend staying here.
Enjoyed the stay. Good location and very comfortable - ideal for families.
Maeve was very helpful. Would come back.
About the Host, Maeve
Hi, I'm Maeve.I'm an outgoing easy going individual who likes to take a positive outlook on life and enjoy! I'm a busy mum to 4 children aged between 10 and 16 and work with young people unable to manage regular school. I love gardening, swimming, socialising and walking. I dearly love to travel and have holidayed in the west of Ireland for the past 12 years with my husband and children, now travelling several times a year to our summer home in Louisburgh. It's been great inviting friends and family to stay and enjoy the beautiful sites, culture, activities and just chill out.
