Please treat our home with respect. Timber floors require shoes off whilst inside.
We were very nicely welcomed by Joanna. She showed us arround and informed us well. The neigborhood is quiet and nice. Otemanu is an incredibly beautiful place and we enjoyed our stay a lot. We loved the big and well equiped bungalow and had a truely relaxing time in the garden and on the deck. We totallly recommend Otemanu!
We had a great and relaxing break at Otemanu, starting with a fantastic welcome by Leah and Lesley the housekeepers as Joanna was in NZ. The correspondence by Joanna was prompt and very welcoming and super helpful. The house and beach were as described and we would certainly recommend it to others. The snorkelling right in front of the house was great and we met Nemo and friends plus corals everyday which was a hit with the kids. Loved reading in the hammocks. We would love to go back one day! Also really enjoyed the coconuts provided fresh by Barry the gardeners. Thanks to everyone, fell in love with Vanuatu!
What can I say... Everything about this place was perfect!! From the location, to the house, to the host and the staff. P.E.R.F.E.C.T.
More than one time during our stay we said how much we enjoyed staying at Otemanu and not in some resort or hotel in town.
Transport was never an issue, with plenty of minibuses running past all the time. We never once had to walk more than 200m before being picked up.
The reef just out the front of the house was great to snorkel on, much better actually than nearby Hideaway Island!
Vanuatu is not cheap, so having the option to prepare some meals was great. Saying that, we did dine out a few days and I can recommend the Beach Bar (Fireshow on Fridays is awesome), and Hideaway Island is also good for meals that don't bust the budget.
Would love to come back to Vanuatu and if I do, I'd stay at Otemanu again!!
We are from Australia and NZ, and through many years of global travel and Airbnb we only give praise to the praiseworthy. Otemanu is a place of happy memories and relaxation. Joanna sent through well-timed "tropical greeting" emails, and the fully illustrated detailed instructions on how to find Otemanu were appreciated. Both Joanna and Mark made an effort to meet and greet and support us, leaving us with only the best impressions. Leah the housemaid was friendly and reliable. This property is fairly new to Airbnb, so I would encourage any potential guests to give top priority to this wonderful spot.

About the Host, Joanna
My husband, Mark, and I are New Zealanders but we've been calling Vanuatu 'home' for the last 9 years - it's a piece of absolute paradise right here in the South Pacific! We love welcoming people to our island retreats - 'Otemanu Cottage' and 'Otemanu Tu' - they are little havens set right on the waterfront and amongst beautiful tropical gardens!
We also love exploring the world ourselves and when we travel, we really like to experience the local culture, speak the local language and learn as much as we can about the people we're meeting and the places we're visiting.
I hope our paths cross one day...be it in Vanuatu...or elsewhere!
