The Space

if you like camping but want something a bit more luxurious than a tent, you have come to the right place!
this large pop has two spacious beds, one king and one queen with real sheets, pillows, and comforters. the winter nights are chilly....low 40's...and the beds have several layers of thick blankets. the table area can be made into another sleeping area that can be used with the provided sleeping bags. this area is best for 1 adult or possibly a couple of children. (the table is not usually stored in the pop up....all you need to do is ask if you would like to use it)
the pop up has a kick-butt propane heater to take the chill off in the early morning or before you go to bed.
there is a mini fridge (no freezer), and a 2 burner propane stove. a second 2 burner propane stove can be provided for the outside area if needed. there is a small kitchen sink with hot and cold water. there is a small inside shower and toilet. the shower/toilet stall is somewhat like that on a boat or in a sleeping car on a train.
the inside of the pop up is narrow. the pop up has 3 outlets, 2 inside and 1 outside.
there is an eating area outside on the patio. there is also a propane heat lamp on the patio.
I supply the kitchen with pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs, ect. there is tea, honey, salt, pepper, and olive oil. there is a by the cup coffee filtration system ( or starbucks right around the corner if you are into that!).
we are located in live oak, 2 miles from pleasure point or capitola village. we are very close to the capitola mall and other bus stops. trader joe's and whole foods are within walking distance! we are about 7.5 miles from ucsc and 4 miles from the boardwalk. we have a local farmers market every sunday from 9 to noon about a mile away and another on wed from 1-6 about 3 miles away. there are many eateries within walking distance.
i have a state park pass that is available to guests on most days of the year. just check with me. i also have 2 monterey bay aquarium passes that i can offer to guests staying 2 or more nights. (we are about 45 minutes north of monterey.)
the pop up is in its own small fenced yard right next to my house with bamboo creating privacy screens. there is a fountain and a lovely little garden of scented geraniums. this safe and quiet neighborhood is a cluster of dead end streets with plenty of free parking. there is room in the driveway for one car.
I do have set check-in/check-out times but I can often be flexible about the timing....just ask.
I have 2 great danes and you may get glimpses of the dogs in their separate yard from time to time. my male dane enjoys being petted over the back fence. I also have 3 cats who may feel like visiting the pop up. they have been known to wander into the pop up on occasion. my kids and I live in the main house and may be in the adjoining backyard playing at any given time during the day.
I use doterra essential oils and can put your favorite scent on the pillows and bedding if you like.

Guest Access

please do not use the hose in the front yard.
the main back yard is off limits without prior discussion.

Interaction with Guests

i like to meet my guests and show them around. the pop up is self sufficient though and i mostly leave my guests to themselves.

The Neighborhood

i live in an area that is made up of cul de sacs.most of the homes are 2 story houses that are well maintained. many of the neighbors have lived here for over 30 years and that gives the neighborhood a feeling of stability. it is generally quiet. there is plenty of free street parking. it is great to be within walking distance of major shopping (trader joe's) and the 2 different great beaches.

Getting around

the bus stop is about 4 blocks away. the bus station at the capitola mall is a five minute walk away.

Other Things to Note

we are centrally located right off of the 41st ave exit of highway 1. we are 2 miles from capitola village and pleasure point.
i have a state park pass and guest passes to the monterey bay aquarium.

Check In
  • Although we didn't actually meet Dara we were happy with the caravan. beds were comfy. although 4 adults is too many..perfect for a couple. no afternoon sun on the patio

  • Great overnight to Santa Cruz. This spot is a few miles from the beach and away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist scene. Dara is friendly and will give you tips on parking, shopping, etc. a good cozy getaway, but be sure to have a good friend as the bathroom set up requires intimacy!

  • Dara has a great little Pop-up!

We had a few complications checking in, entirely our fault, and Dara was extremely gracious about it, considering she prefers to check people in properly and meet her guests, we arrived very late and were unable to do that and she was very accommodating about it all.

The Pop-up itself is very cute and has it all! Also considering the cold nights we were very warm with all the supplied blankets.

We only stayed one night, but that one night was enough to say that if you are travelling light and want a lovely place to stay with a very understanding host, we highly recommend Dara's Pop-up.

Thank you Dara! And sorry about our lateness!

  • Our stay in the pop up was very nice--It was much like camping! If you need a place to stay in Santa Cruz, I would highly recommend it.

  • The neighborhood was very nice. It was as stated in the ad in Airbnb. The parking place was so nice to have and not worry about "Where" to park.

Dara is very pleasant and keeps privacy as a priority. Yet, she has a bell to ring at the front if anything is needed from her.

The atmosphere is delightful. I sat in the patio and practiced my music and enjoyed the California air.

The camper was open to fresh air when I arrived and the dishes, towels, etc. were stocked. I loved this place and will make a reservation again if I'm in the area. It's perfect. I hate spending $250 a night for a place to stay and this place was so much better than a hotel with all it's people and noise.

Dara has my vote of confidence.

  • Dara is a great host. Very easy to work with when making arrangements for getting settled & checking out. The trailer was clean & cozy. It does get chilly at night, so bring warm pj's. The neighborhood is quiet & centrally located. Just a short drive ro the boardwalk. Overall a really fun trip.

  • Dara was a sweetheart. The camper was very cozy. We just decided we needed a bit more room. It would be perfect to come back with 2 people instead of 4 for us. Thank you so much!!

  • We really enjoyed our weekend in the pop-up camper, it was cozy and a unique experience in all of our travels. It's in a great neighborhood, close to downtown, the beach and pretty much anything else you'd want to do in Santa Cruz. Dara was very helpful and welcoming, we'll be sure to keep this camper in mind next time we visit!
