About This Listing
Our pop up has all the amenities of a small house. You can enjoy your own private patio with an eating area warmed by a propane heater. I offer a state park pass to guests. Just ask!
if you like camping but want something a bit more luxurious than a tent, you have come to the right place!
this large pop has two spacious beds, one king and one queen with real sheets, pillows, and comforters. most summer nights are in the 50s and the beds have several layers of thick blankets.
there is a mini fridge (no freezer), and a 2 burner propane stove. there is a small kitchen sink with hot and cold water. there is a small inside shower and toilet. the shower/toilet stall is somewhat like that on a boat or in a sleeping car on a train. it affords very little privacy!
the inside of the pop up is narrow. the pop up has 3 electrical outlets, 2 inside and 1 outside.
there is an eating area outside on the patio. there is also a propane heat lamp on the patio.
I supply the kitchen with pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs, ect. there is tea, honey, salt, pepper, and olive oil. there is a by the cup coffee filtration system ( or starbucks right around the corner if you are into that!).
we are located in live oak, 2 miles from pleasure point or capitola village. we are very close to the capitola mall and other bus stops. trader joe's and whole foods are within walking distance! we are about 7.5 miles from ucsc and 4 miles from the boardwalk. we have a local farmers market every sunday from 9 to noon about a mile away and another on wed from 1-6 about 3 miles away. there are many eateries within walking distance.
i have a state park pass that is available to guests on most days of the year. just check with me.
the pop up is in its own small fenced yard right next to my house with bamboo creating privacy screens. there is a fountain and lots of beautiful bamboo. this safe and typically quiet neighborhood is a cluster of dead end streets with plenty of free parking. there is room in the driveway for one car.
I do have set check-in/check-out times but I can often be flexible about the timing....just ask.
I have 2 dogs, and I also have 2 cats who may feel like visiting the pop up. they have been known to wander into the pop up on occasion. my kids and I live in the main house and may be in the adjoining backyard playing at any given time during the day.
I use doterra essential oils and can put your favorite scent on the pillows and bedding if you like.
you can park on the right side of the driveway and enter the gate by the bamboo. please do not use the hose in the front yard. we are on severe water restrictions and i don't have extra water to spare.
the main back yard is off limits without prior discussion.
Interaction with Guests
i like to meet my guests and show them around. the pop up is self- sufficient though and i mostly leave my guests to themselves. if for some reason i am not available at check in time, it is possible to do a self check in.
I live in an area that is made up of cul de sacs. Most of the homes are 2 story houses that are well maintained. Many of the neighbors have lived here for over 30 years and that gives the neighborhood a feeling of stability. It is generally quiet; however, i do have new neighbors who have loud gatherings on occasion. There have been a few times I have had to ask them to quiet down as the night goes on. There is plenty of free street parking. It is great to be within walking distance of major shopping (trader joe's) and the 2 different great beaches.
the bus stop is about 4 blocks away. the bus station at the capitola mall is a five minute walk away. You can walk to the beach(15 minutes) or shopping and restaurants.
Other Things to Note
We are centrally located right off of the 41st ave exit of highway 1. We are 2 miles from capitola village and pleasure point.
I have a state park pass .
If you are staying for a week, the long term price of $550 will include up to 3 extra people at no charge!
if possible check in with me when you get here so i can show you the ins and outs. you can text me upon arrival or just come to the front door of the house and ring the bell (a real brass bell not a doorbell ). in the case that I am not able to be here when you arrive, just go on through the gate on the right side of the driveway and I will leave notes detailing the most important features of the pop up! Absolutely no cigarette smoking anywhere on the property!
no parties or extra guests without prior discussion. quiet hours 10pm to 7am. i consider this to be a family friendly place but it is important to know that the patio is near 2 bedrooms and children who cry for extended periods of time can be too much for the neighbors.
please wash up your dishes. i provide buckets for food waste. I supply extra towels for water on the floor so please wipe up those spills and shower drips.
only enter and exit thru the gate leading to the driveway (otherwise you might get a huge greeting from a huge dog). both gates should remain closed. if there is something you need, you can always ask! you can come to my front door or text me.
no animals allowed in pop up yard or pop up without prior consent!
both the sink and shower are on a grey water system. sometimes the sink drains slowly. please notify me if it is not draining!
please let me know when you leave. you can text me, call me, or come to the front door to say goodbye! whatever works for you!
We stayed for a night and only met Dara briefly, but she was very friendly. The pop up was so cosy, it had everything we needed.
I appreciated how quickly Dara responded to my reservation request. She also had great communication with me prior to my arrival. I loved the special touch of the DoTerra oils of our choice on our pillows upon our request. Dara is welcoming & friendly - has a great spirit! The neighborhood feels comfortable & safe & is an easy 15 minute drive to the Boardwalk & The Mystery Spot. We loved staying in the pop up camper. My 8 year old was totally enthralled so it made for a fun, unique experience. Both beds were super cozy & comfortable. We only stayed one night so we didn't use the shower & definitely glad it was just family when it came to using the toilet since there is just a curtain to pull around it - but it worked just fine. Would definitely stay there again if coming for another night in Santa Cruz.
My fiance and I had a great experience in Dara's camper. It was cozy and quiet, much different experience than a hotel. My fiance loved it!
Dara was a great host. Very quick to respond, kept the place super clean and cute little touches to make the caravan feel very cozy and comfy. After staying here we were thinking about possibly buying our own caravan. I would highly recommend staying here if you're in the area. Couldn't be happier with it.
First I must say Dara was a great communicator and host. She was welcoming and made sure she was available to us for any questions. We stayed at her place for 3 days which was a little long for us. I think one or two nights would have been better. More on that in a moment. We had a parking spot on the right side of her driveway and a private entrance into the side yard. The side yard was pretty with bamboo, table and chairs, a water fountain for ambiance, and even an outside heater. The travel trailer is an older one. Look up starcraft travel trailer to get an idea of the setup. There's a bed on each side, one queen, one full, a small sink and two burner propane stove, and all the dishes, towels, and bedding you will need. There is a heater that cannot be run at night. It gets cold but Dara provided plenty of blankets. My daughter and I had been tent camping for two days before arriving at Dara's so we were happy to have beds. Our main issue was the bathroom setup. The toilet/shower combo is right next to the full bed and has a flimsy white shower curtain for privacy. There is another curtain (drapes) to make the bed slightly more private and another curtain down the center of the trailer to add a little more privacy from the other side. None of these curtains do anything to contain sound so there is no real privacy when using the toilet or shower. The shower/toilet combo is very small with a handheld sprayer. The water controls and sprayer are under the shower curtain making it somewhat difficult to control the water and get showered without getting everything wet. It is doable though. For us the main concern was the toilet. There are two knobs. One knob offers a tiny spray of water which just hits the back of the bowl, and the other knob opens and closes a small hole to drop contents below. We quickly decided on a no poo zone and actually had some trouble just getting toilet paper to go down the hole. It made for some terrific laughs, but for us we decided we value a full size toilet and shower over a comfortable bed. Two other things...you may need earplugs due to noise from the neighbors and if you haven't been in a travel trailer before (I hadn't) do expect to rock and roll a bit. If someone rolls over in the bed on the other side, you will feel it. The wind will also shake the trailer. Overall, I'm glad we stayed here and had the opportunity to try out a travel trailer. It was an adventure for us, and Dara was great. I hope this review gives an idea of what to expect.
