Escape to the Woods! Like staying in a National Park, it's beautiful all year! Great front porch amid wild forest and rolling hills. A bird & wildlife haven on 23 forested acres borders the Daniel Boone National Forest & shared with the Bird House at Sinking Creek, a rental home for 4. Studio with queen bed, modern kitchen, just bring food & clothes! Streaming TV, DVD, Bluetooth soundbar, Gig wifi, books, games, gas grill, hammock, & firepit. Amazing dark night sky. 2 ppl. max. No kids or pets.
The space
This studio cabin is the perfect retreat, close enough to many attractions yet far enough away to escape from it all! Whatever you do, you will treasure your visit to our 22 acres in the beautiful wild and scenic Daniel Boone National Forest! This cozy studio cabin is 358 sq ft and has a comfy living area, 3/4 bath, modern well-equipped kitchen with full-size fridge w/ icemaker, cooktop stove/oven, microwave, coffeemaker, blender, toaster, can opener, cookware & dishes, propane grill, dining for 2 in cabin & picnic table in yard, bring your own food. We provide coffee, tea, coffee mate, sugar, some spices. 12" Memory foam queen bed in the cabin and a hammock for 1 or 2 in the yard, also a fire pit w/an initial supply of firewood provided for small tended fires in the yard. Streaming TV, internet, BYO Verizon or AT&T cell service work ok, DVD w/assorted DVDs, Bluetooth Sound Bar, books & games. Maximum 2 guests: business traveler, tourist, adventurer, nature lover, lovebirds, retirees, anyone will find a great escape! NO YOUNG CHILDREN OR PETS. Please note we DO share the road with one family past the cabin, please be aware there may be traffic from the neighbors, be sure to wave hello, our neighbors are great people! Additionally, on nice weekends the drag strip is close by there may be noise from that but for the most part, this is a nice quiet getaway with sounds of the forest to soothe your soul. And with over 40 years experience in quality assurance, hospitality and food manufacturing, you can be sure the cabin is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival.
The property sits adjacent to the "Thrash Rock" a geological feature of historical interest. Local legend tells us this is where the ancient natives and local town folk threshed their grain. The area was settled early 19th century & locals say in late 19th century this area was a bustling small village on the road to Sinking Creek and the Rockcastle River. Old home foundations dot the landscape. The cabin sits in the front of our yard adjoining the Daniel Boone National Forest on the NW side. Please consider a visit, you will experience nature at its finest! Our Forest Cabin at Sinking Creek shares the property with our larger rental home, The Bird House at Sinking Creek. Larger groups (6 adults) may want to rent both properties!
About us: We love the peace & serenity of the Daniel Boone National Forest. We relocated to Laurel County in 2001 and have traveled throughout the US, the scenic beauty in the DBNF is our escape to the woods!
Why this property: We purchased this hand-crafted cabin built in 2012 in 2015 which squares off a corner to our yard, completely remodeled it and now offer this cozy vacation home for your perfect escape! Daniel Boone National Forest access is along the northwest boundary of our yard and is about 1 mile to Sinking Creek, 5 miles to Woods Creek Lake to the north, Laurel Lake to the south, City of London to the east and the Wild and Scenic Rockcastle River to the west. Conveniently located off 80W about 10 miles from exit 41 on I-75 on a rural road through the forest, midway between Woods Creek Lake & Laurel Lake.
Unique benefits: Our cozy cabin in the Daniel Boone National Forest is in a rural, forested area. Close enough to the modern world yet far enough away to escape daily life and traffic. It's always 10 degrees cooler in the woods! The Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky is indeed a remarkable, biodiverse wilderness. Encompassing over 700,000 acres of hardwood forest across 21 counties, this region boasts unique sandstone cliffs, deep ravines, and thousands of natural rockshelters that foster incredibly distinct microclimates. Our area in the Appalachian foothills is a temperate, mixed mesophytic rain forest with amazing and unique flora and fauna. It's like camping with all your stuff! We love our little piece of the woods and hope you will too!

The cabin sits on 1/2 acre adjoining our 23-acre property. Our other rental home, The Bird House sits up the hill behind the cabin, and we live off to the right of the cabin, down the hill. Guests are welcome to use the cabin and the entire yard. The Daniel Boone National Forest boundary is on the northwest border of our property, walk down about 1/4 mile to Sinking Creek from the yard. A quiet retreat in nature. There is limited traffic on the road we share with another family.
Other things to note
This is a cozy cabin in the forest, perfect for one or two adults. No kids or pets. There is streaming TV and wireless Spectrum gig & Starlink internet, there's an HDTV & DVD player w/assorted DVDs, books & games for entertainment and also a Bluetooth soundbar. Daniel Boone National Forest access is at the northwest border of 23-acre property.
Please note we DO share the road with three neighbors near the cabin, please be aware there may be traffic, be sure to wave hello, they're great people! Also, on nice weekends the drag strip is close by, there may be noise from that, neighbors in the distance may be doing outdoor work, etc. For the most part, this is a nice quiet and secluded getaway with the soothing sounds of the forest.

We escaped to the Daniel Boone National Forest in 2002 and absolutely love living in the woods. It's like camping with all your stuff! Throughout the years on vacations, we always sought out vacation rentals over chains. We have furnished this cabin with all amenities we have enjoyed (or wished we had) at all the other VRs we have visited. We love our little cabin in the woods and hope you will too!
