The Space

THIS IS THE OCEAN VIEW YOU SEE from your living room and lanai. The Kuleana is a beautiful ocean front resort located on the pristine coast of Kahana west Maui. Unit 309 is a one-bedroom, ocean view, second (top) floor, corner unit, located amidst the lush tropical lush gardens of the Kuleana resort. It has been remodeled with granite counter tops and tiled floors throughout. It has an air conditioner in the bedroom and a washer-dryer inside the unit. Also included is free private WiFi internet, cable TV and DVD in both the living room and bedroom. Free on-site parking is also included. From the private lanai (deck) you will experience amazing views of the ocean, Molokai island, and beautiful sunsets.

A regulation tennis court and large heated swimming pool is located on the property. Relax and swim year-round in the heated pool or shoot a set of tennis. The Kuleana is well known for its beautiful environment of private tropical grounds on seven acres, with walkways surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants, flowers and coconut palm trees. These gardens are tended with pride and are considered to be among the finest tropical resort settings on the West Maui coast.

You can walk to a number of restaurants and bars, which are just a few minutes walk from the condo. There is a mini market, two coffee houses, a health food store and farmers market and a supermarket nearby, as well as places to rent surfboards, snorkeling and diving gear. Shopping, fine dining and golf can also be found within a short radius. Kuleana is located about three miles north of the exciting Kaanapali mega-hotel dining and entertainment district, which includes a huge popular beach, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, parasailing, spas, golf, and shopping. Quaint and historic Lahaina Town is about five miles south, where you can find numerous restaurants and bars for every taste, shopping galore, art galleries and unique specialty shops and boutiques. There are boats for sport fishing, luau shows, a movie theater, and weekly art and craft fairs. World-class (winter season) surfing is located a few miles north of the Kuleana resort at the Honolua Bay, or you can surf the more mellow (winter season) waves right out back of the Kuleana resort, or walk a few blocks to nearby S-Turns surfing spot. Summer season surfing is also abundant from Lahaina harbor to numerous spots south. If golf is your bag, the legendary Kaanapali and Kapalua golf courses are within a five minute drive. If you don't feel like running around, stay in and enjoy the view, lay around the heated pool or beach and barbeque in the evening right on the oceanfront, while enjoying the tropical climate and amazing Maui sunsets. The kitchen in Kuleana 309 is also well-equipped with everything you need to create your own private luau.

If you are looking for the Hawaii vacation you will remember for a lifetime, be sure to book your reservation for Kuleana 309 Maui! Mahalo and Aloha!

  • Jack and Andee's condo is excellent! It's in such a great location - a beautiful beach with heaps of turtles right outside and a quick drive to other surrounding areas. The view from the lanai is so nice. The condo itself is a great size, lovely bathroom, handy kitchen, washing machine/dryer and air conditioning in the bedroom. The pool in the complex is so big, deep and super clean. We enjoyed our stay so much. Communication with Jack and Andee is a breeze and they really go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. We liked the proximity to Farmer's Market for healthy food options and recommend Merriman's in Kapalua for a lovely dinner.

  • My wife and I just returned from 10 days at the Kuleana. I agree completely with the vast majority of reviews: awesome unit in a beautiful resort in one of the nicest areas of Maui.

What impressed me most, however, was what happened when something, completely beyond Jack and Andee's control, went very wrong. Just before we arrived the units on either side of theirs were sold on very short notice (2 week escrow). Both of the adjacent units were essentially gutted and being rebuilt when we arrived--tile floors, walls, cabinets, everything. I called Jack, expecting a hassle, but his immediate response was that he would try to get us another unit in the resort, if that's what we wanted. We said, sure. He was good to his word and we ended up in an ocean front unit the next morning. They did not own the unit we stayed in, so he obviously took a big financial hit.

I would not hesitate to rent from these folks again.

    Response from Jack & Andee:

I'm glad it all worked out Stan. 100% customer satisfaction is our goal. I was able to get in contact with the contractor and he assured me that they would be finished working on the unit adjacent ours within two weeks. After that all should be back to normal in paradise. Thanks for your understanding and flexibility, I am happy there was a nice ocean front unit available for the duration. Aloha and Mahalo, Jack

  • Just returned from our long-anticipated week in Maui and wanted to write up a review for Jack & Andee's condo. First, let me state that the condo is located in a superb part of the island. We went to a different location every night to watch the sunset and by far, the best viewing was down on the little cove just steps from the condo. It's also the same cove where we saw the MOST turtles out of all the beaches we visited. The condo has a great little view of the ocean and if you have older kids it is perfectly perched right above the pool so you can watch them from the deck of the condo or prep meals and also keep an eye on them. As a single mom traveling with my two kids alone this was a HUGE benefit for me. There's a washer and dryer directly in the unit, another huge perk. There is the absolute best coffee I've ever had just two minutes down the road at Bad Ass Coffee and the BEST snorkeling cove on the entire island just 10 mn. north near Napili Bay (at Kapalua resort). The Fish Market just 5 mn down the road (south) has the best fish tacos in town, hands down. The condo is perfectly situated. Close to everything but far enough removed form the hustle and bustle of Kanaapali and all the resorts to still feel quiet and private. We encountered a sudden and unexpected middle of the night emergency plumbing situation (that we did not cause!) on our first night and I am happy to report that Jack responded to my frantic voicemail immediately and even though it was Easter Sunday and nearly impossible to get anyone to come out, he arranged - as quickly as possible - to have the situation fixed. He was attentive and also fixed a few other unplanned for problems that he was not aware of, but quickly attended to. I was very satisfied with his promptness and understanding and the final resolution. The rest of our stay was wonderful and I saved a bundle of money being able to get all my shopping done at the costco near the airport on our way in and cooking all our meals in the condo's kitchen. Without the kitchen there is no way I could have afforded on my budget to eat out every meal. We had one special breakfast at The Gazebo (5 mn drive north, HIGHLY recommend - great pineapple banana pancakes!) and one dinner of fish tacos at The Fish Market. Both excellent. The pool was just the right size and temperature for my kids. The snorkeling right outside the condo allowed great turtle viewing but due to storms was too murky for much fish viewing. Napili Bay was fabulous for snorkeling. You can rent snorkeling gear at Boss Frogs right next to Bad Ass coffee. HIGHLY recommend this condo! Thanks for the trip of a lifetime! :)

  • We like being away from the tourist traps and be able to enjoy a little local vibe and this place was perfect for us!

A very beautiful and nearly private beach with two green sea turtles who we saw up close every day at the beach! They were just as curious about us we were of them. While relaxing in the condo, we could see whales breaching spouting in the distance!

The condo is only about 5 miles from the quaint little town of Lahaina (tourist trap) but enjoyable and about a mile from Whalers Village in Kaanapali (tourist trap jam packed with hotels and people). We spent 20 minutes in Whalers Village and were so THRILLED that we were not staying in a big hotel in the middle of all this chaos and quickly headed back to our little slice of heaven!

There are a few local restaurants, priced right with great food nearby (ie: Ono Taco and the Aloha Mixed Plate). Verses $35+ entrees at the tourist traps.

The condo it's self was clean and well equipped. Air conditioner in the bedroom, lanai off the living/kitchen that over looks the pool and ocean. Easy access from the car to the condo; as well as from condo to pool and ocean.

We would stay here again ... It really is wonderful.
That being said, no place is perfect. There are three things I would like to see improved. 1) We thought we would sleep on the hide-a-bed in the living room so we could hear the ocean - that lasted about 30 seconds. It's old and not comfortable. 2) The refrigerator is kinda loud and sometimes over powers the sound of the ocean. 3) A couple burners on the stove do not work. In a nutshell, these would be three great improvements, but it wouldn't stop us from staying here again. It's a wonderful condo!

The development is peaceful, well groomed and when we visited, seemed to be more of the 40+ crowd - which we enjoyed.

My boyfriend and I have each been to The Hawaiian island three times and have never had a good time ... Until this trip. It's a great place to enjoy Maui!!!

  • Really nice place, we'd stay there again.

Pros: right on the beach, great location, very peaceful but close to incredible snorkeling, surfing, good restaurants. Friendly atmosphere, we enjoyed meeting people around the communal barbecue, sipping wine while whale and sunset watching. Condo was clean and nicely furnished.

Cons: Hot tub in complex would be nice. Shower head on end of a hose kept falling off wall bracket. First couple of days someone downstairs was smoking, which was irritating with glass door open for breeze.

Still, had a great time there.

  • Awesome condo! We had a great time. We loved the view from the balcony, we had our coffee everyday there. Washer and dryer definitely a plus, especially if you work out everyday like we did. The complex has a really nice , there is a little secluded beach to watch the sunset and it is also the perfect place for snorkeling, we saw huge green sea turtles thay eat algeae really close to the shore. Close to surf shops to rent equipment and a farmers market with great organic products. Highly recommend!

  • Recommend the condo for anyone who is looking for a great view and stay. Place was safe and secure and the instructions were accurate and clear. Jack's response time to all of my issues were extremely timely. There does seem to be somewhat of a disconnect between on-site management and Jack, but he gave me all assurances that he remedied the situation.

    Response from Jack & Andee:

Evidently David had a few problems while at our Maui condo. Before guests check in, I always send them information which also states that if they have any problems while in the condo, they should contact the on-site management or me directly. Instead, David did not let us know there were problems with the water heater and decided to do his complaining after he left. Our reviews from virtually all previous tenants have been excellent. Had we known, we could have addressed his problems. Poor reviews hurt our business and we do everything we can to keep the place in excellent condition. When there is a problem, we hope that the tenant would let us know so we can immediately deal with it. David did not give us the opportunity to resolve the problem while he was there. I would prefer not to rent to such a tenant again.

  • My husband and I honeymooned on Maui and stayed at Jack & Andee's condo for 10 days. It was great! The pictures are definitely accurate- the views are amazing. The condo had mostly everything we needed from appliances to spices to cook with! The condo was stocked up on clean towels but didn't have any paper towels or toilet paper when we got there. No biggie though, we ran down to Times Supermarket (just a few minutes down the road) and grabbed what we needed.

The condo is perfect for two people, or perhaps a small family. The unit felt very private, as it's an end unit. The bed was very comfortable, and on the nights where the trade winds died down, we ran the AC in the bedroom and stayed cool.

The Kuleana is a really nice complex overall, and the grounds are kept up very well. There's a nice little path that leads to small, private beach where you can snorkel. We saw some cool fish and even sea turtles! We made use of the gas barbecues too, which overlook the beautiful ocean. Picturesque!

Overall, we were VERY happy with our stay in Jack's condo at the Kuleana. We will be back!

  • Amazing. Could not have been any better. Excellent location. The pictures are very true to life. Whole experience was smooth, absolutely no issues.

  • We stayed here for 6 nights during our stay in Maui. The condo was exactly as pictured - but the beach and setting was probably more beautiful! We enjoyed lovely sunsets and hoards of sea turtles greeting us right off of the private little beach.

The amenities provided were plentiful (lots of fluffy white towels, beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear and a cooler) and the kitchen was well provisioned. Everything was spotless. The location was close to a somewhat permanent coop/farmer's market and a supermarket, and to plenty of beaches. Parking was never a problem. Wireless was wonderful.

The apartment stayed quite cool with the lanai door and front door open to let the trade winds through, and an air conditioner in the bedroom ensured a wonderful sleeping temperature.

Our only minor complaint was that the decor/paint was a little stark and could use some color and sprucing up, especially in the living area. However the outside views made up for that and we spent most of our time on the lanai.
