About this listing
A cozy loft above a wood-carver's workshop on the wharf by Hafnarfjordur Harbour: A spacious bedroom, roomy kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. An unusual place to stay, with good bus connections to the city centre and to the airport.
The loft is above a workshop in a set of buildings originally designed for use by small-boat fishermen. Many of the spaces have been converted into workshops and artists' studios, with some units still used for their original purpose. The neighbourhood is quiet in the evening.
The unique thing about this location is that it's right on the waterfront, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a working harbor. The workshop loft is cozy and private, and if you like unusual places to stay, I think you'll enjoy this retreat by the harbor.
You'll have the whole upstairs to yourself. This includes sole use of the bathroom. The kitchen area has a hotplate, coffee maker, kettle, and a small refrigerator - as well as cups, plates and cutlery.
Interaction with Guests
I will greet you on arrival, give you the keys and show you around. The airport bus stops at the Viking hotel nearby, so I'm happy to walk over and meet you there. I live close by, so I can respond quickly if something comes up. Usually, we expect to be able to receive guests from 2pm .
The area is well-lit and safe at night, and close to shopping, cafes, restaurants and the local swimming pool (no trip to Iceland is complete without a dip in a geothermal swimming pool).
Car parking is directly in front of the door. The airport bus (and Blue Lagoon bus) both stop nearby. Public transportation to central Reykjavík is easy: Bus no. 1 stops right outside Fornubudir, and takes you to Kringlan in 15 mins. and to the Harpa Concert Hall in central Reykjavik in ca. 25-30 minutes.
Smoking is not allowed indoors.
Expected arrival time is around 2pm, and on the day of departure we ask that guests be ready to leave by noon.
Luggage can be stored in the workshop downstairs.
From Oct 01, 2015 - Apr 30, 2016 the minimum stay is 28 nights.
The listing description was accurate. The premises and location exceeded our expectations. Borkur was always prompt with emails. We arrived late and he had provided good directions and instructions about gaining access via a lock box. The next day he dropped by to make sure we were settled and to provide travel tips. It was like visiting a friend. The loft was so relaxing and a nice break after staying in a big city. Thank you Borkur. We hope to visit you again. Anne & John
We enjoyed our stay at Börkurs Loft, it is close to Reykjavik and has a great view. But since it is directely by the harbour: if you have bad luck and the wind is coming from the wrong direction, it smells like old fish in front of the loft. So for one night we had to keep our windows closed. This was no drama for us, only be aware (and Börkur says so in his description): if you book a loft by the harbour, than harbour sounds and smells are part of the deal.
Communication with Börkur was always nice and uncomplicated, everthing went well. Thank you for that! We would book it again and can only recommend it!
Börkur came and introduced himself as soon as we arrived which was great and we had a good chat about what there was to do in the area. After chatting to him we decided to hire a car which was a really good decision and we saw a lot of the wonderful areas that Iceland has to offer.
The loft was perfect for us - amazing view onto the harbour, beautiful location, cosy and warm ( with the wind outside, a warm cosy place to come back to was very welcome)! I would definitely recommend the Loft to anyone looking for somewhere to stay near Reykjavik!
This was a terrific place to stay, right in the harbor and walking distance to enough shops that it was very fun. The facility was clean, nicely decorated and had sufficient cooking supplies to make a meal. Our host was also attentive and helped us sort things out. Our Internet worked fine. And the host left us lots of cool travel information.
This location is quick and easy access to the city but on the edge of the city. It was quick and easy access to the Blue Lagoon, Geothermal Park and the Airport. It was absolutely perfect for a quick stop as Icelandic Air allowed us to see Iceland on our way to Europe.
We've been in Börkurs more than cosy and comfortable loft for three days and enjoyed our stay very much! When we arrived all was perfectly prepared and Börkur came over to welcome us warmly. The apartment is big (separate kitchen, living-/sleepingarea, bathroom with sole use!) and the view on the harbor just perfect! Our talks with the fishermen in the harbor made us feel like beening at home :-) and the sushi-restaurant (Sushi the train) in Hafnarfördur is absolutely recommended.
The way to citiycenter Reykjavik is around 12 minutes by car or can be done by bus.
Everything was just perfect and we absolutely enjoyed the end of our Islandtour!! Thank you Börkur!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the loft. The bed was comfy, there was interesting original art on the walls, it it was light and airy. We loved looking out on the harbor.
I really enjoyed myself. Love the view and the layout. Excellent wifi connection. Am looking forward to future bookings.
About the Host, Börkur
After my father Sigthor retired from business some years ago, he set up his wood carving workshop on the wharf in Hafnarfjordur Harbour, among craftspeople, artists, and fishermen in the surrounding units. Above the workshop, we decorated a cozy loft apartment.
After he passed away, me and my mother Sigrun continue renting out the apartment. We enjoy meeting new people and introducing them to the Reykjavik area and the neigbourhood in Hafnarfjordur. We live nearby, so it's easy to get a hold of us most days.
