About This Listing
A cozy loft above a wood-carver's workshop on the wharf by Hafnarfjordur Harbour: A spacious bedroom, roomy kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. An unusual place to stay, with good bus connections to the city centre and to the airport.
The loft is above a workshop in a set of buildings originally designed for use by small-boat fishermen. Many of the spaces have been converted into workshops and artists' studios, with some units still used for their original purpose. The neighbourhood is quiet in the evening.
The unique thing about this location is that it's right on the waterfront, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a working harbor. The workshop loft is cozy and private, and if you like unusual places to stay, I think you'll enjoy this retreat by the harbor.
You'll have the whole upstairs to yourself. This includes sole use of the bathroom. The kitchen area has a hotplate, coffee maker, kettle, and a small refrigerator - as well as cups, plates and cutlery.
Interaction with Guests
I will greet you on arrival, give you the keys and show you around. The airport bus stops at the Viking hotel nearby, so I'm happy to walk over and meet you there. I live close by, so I can respond quickly if something comes up. Usually, we expect to be able to receive guests from 2pm .
The area is well-lit and safe at night, and close to shopping, cafes, restaurants and the local swimming pool (no trip to Iceland is complete without a dip in a geothermal swimming pool).
Car parking is directly in front of the door. The airport bus (and Blue Lagoon bus) both stop nearby. Public transportation to central Reykjavík is easy: Bus no. 1 stops right outside Fornubudir, and takes you to Kringlan in 15 mins. and to the Harpa Concert Hall in central Reykjavik in ca. 25-30 minutes.
Smoking is not allowed indoors.
Expected arrival time is around 2pm, and on the day of departure we ask that guests be ready to leave by noon.
Luggage can be stored in the workshop downstairs.
Sigthor's place was excellent, I stayed for 3 nights. it was excatly as listed, With a beautifull view to harbor from the living room window.. about 10-15 min drive from center Reykjavik.
Sigthors was very helpful with everything,
Highly recommended !
I can't imagine a more perfect place to stay than Sigthor's cozy harbor loft during our first two nights in Iceland. The design of his space is impeccable to the extent that I want to replicate the bedroom! Also, the loft is incredibly close to Rejkavik by car allowing us to be in the city most of the time. More than anything, Sigthor is an amazing host, going above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful stay, which we did. No doubt if we return to Iceland, we hope to stay here again!
Sigthor's place was great. We didn't get a chance to meet him but everything was exactly as advertised. Bigger and cheaper than you can get elsewhere in the area and with a kitchen to boot. There was also juice and coffee that we enjoyed in the morning before venturing out. The bus ride into Reykjavik is easy but remember the bus drivers only take exact change. Would definitely recommend for people who are looking to save money on accommodations without giving up amenities (in fact you'll probably gain some).
Spacious and clean accommodations. Must be best deal in greater Reykjavík, with a nice view out living room window. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed teo night in Sigthors loft in the harbour. The loft was very cosy and was located in the quiet and nice harbour, and only 10 min drive from rejkjavik city center. Sigthors was quick to answar al qustions and very helpful with everything. We would recommend to stay there.
I did not get the chance to meet Sigthor, but my boyfriend who had arrived the day before I did met him. He was kind enough to pick him up from the bus stop and give him a quick tour around the town. Sigthor was a great host and communication was quick and clear. The loft itself was beautiful and was quite cozy. It was clean and had everything that we needed. I would highly recommend this loft and hope to return in the future!
About the Host, Börkur
After my father Sigthor retired from business some years ago, he set up his wood carving workshop on the wharf in Hafnarfjordur Harbour, among craftspeople, artists, and fishermen in the surrounding units. Above the workshop, we decorated a cozy loft apartment.
After he passed away, me and my mother Sigrun continue renting out the apartment. We enjoy meeting new people and introducing them to the Reykjavik area and the neigbourhood in Hafnarfjordur. We live nearby, so it's easy to get a hold of us most days.
